Eleven O'clock Fright

Rate this book
When Dr. Kurt Snaber moved into a new house in a new town he was accompanied by his dog, Louis, and the ever-present voices of his mother and his dead wife. Only the dog was welcome. As he settled into a new position at the local university, and a tentative romance with a new neighbor, Snaber's life began to take an even stranger turn than the one that had brought him to this place. There was something strange going on in this quiet neighborhood--something that seemed to happen each night at 11:00 o'clock. Joshua Scribner has created a compelling, delightfully creepy tale of supernatural terror. Definitely not to be missed.

I gave it a star for effort but I did not in fact like this book. I guess it could be considered ok; the premise is...imaginative? The writing is really simple and easy enough to follow, but also, well, bad. It could have been improved somewhat by some decent editing. At some points, the storyline -- which was never really fully developed and made less sense the further into the book you got -- devolves completely into soft porn, which is fine if that's what you're into. The most interesting characters are the ones that never actually speak (looking at you, Louie); literally everyone else seemed to be a salacious caricature of a person instead of a fully fleshed out protagonist.

This book had its creepy moments, and was suspenseful, but overall (as a horror novel) it fell flat. Too many questions were left unanswered, and the relationship between the main characters did not feel believable.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, I've read several short stories by the author and really didn't care much for them. This book drew me in and kept my interest throughout. The premise was a little silly but overall it was entertaining.

I wasn't sure about this book when I first picked it up. I didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised when it grabbed me and didn't let go. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I look forward to reading more from Joshua Scribner.

Interesting way to tell a ghost story! A free book on my nook. Well written and pretty entertaining.
