While spending a special afternoon together, Grandpa answers his grandson’s question by telling him that his favorite things to do are all the things they do together, including playing baseball, ice skating, and walking through the park.

This book is about the bond between a grandfather and his grandchild. The book is written from the child's perspective and it talks about all the things they enjoy doing together such as, camping, hiking fishing. It also includes the things the child has learned that her grandpa likes for example, coffee with cream, the buzz of bees, and raking the leaves. Every last line on the page ends with something along the lines of, "he likes doing _____ with me" I really like that and I think it shows how close their bond is.
I love this book because I'm really close with my grandparents, as I'm sure most of my class will be so it will be easy for them to relate to. It also talks about a lot of activities and hobbies that are different so I'm sure the students will have plenty to talk about and explain what they like to do.
I could read this to them before Grandparent day, which is something I really want to do in my class. It also would be a good way to get the students started on a writing assignment that tells what they like to do and who they spend time with.
This is a companion to Mama Loves, written in the same format. I love this one for the same reasons I loved Mama Loves. Each page has a different theme of activities and some are “typical” grandpa and some art not which is what I like best. It’s inspired me to write something similar for my family members.
