Memo: Marry Me?

Rate this book
When I agreed to be Zach Swift's secretary, I was expecting demanding and high-flying--not seriously gorgeous and generous! I usually don't like working in an office, because of how the accident affected my memory, but with Zach it feels different. And now he's asked me to go on a business trip with him!

Nine-to-five is hard enough for me to hide my feelings, and Zach's bound to guess that I'm not as perfect as he seems to think I am. And he's also mentioned he has a proposal for me. I'm meeting him for dinner--tonight!

Wish me luck!

Jennifer Ann Ryan was born on 1963 in a small country town in New South Wales Australia. She has travelled in America, trekked Australia’s Kosciusko National Park, lived and worked on a wheat/sheep farm, played piano at marriage ceremonies, sung in a choral production, and worked in jobs ranging from Legal transcription typist, to motor mechanic’s office assistant. She currently makes her home in a small inland city in New South Wales, works 20 hours a week in an 'outside' job in the health care industry, and continues to write stories of hope and triumph for her readers around the globe.

As Jennie Adams began her writing career with the publication of her first two Mills & Boon romance stories in 2005. Her strong heroes and feisty, determined heroines have warmed the hearts of readers all over the world, with her books being translated into numerous foreign language editions. Although she fights the impulse, Jennie still tries to decipher each foreign edition when it arrives in the mail. Italian, anyone? An avid romance reader, particularly in the historical romance genre, Jennie is the self-confessed owner of an over-active imagination. When she isn't writing her own romance stories, or travelling back through time to enjoy the romances of Dukes and Duchesses, or Knights and their Ladies, Jennie keeps her imagination busy writing articles and short stories on anything from alpacas to gardening to visiting the zoo. Her articles and short stories have been published in magazines and periodicals in Australia and overseas. In her downtime Jennie tries to grow flowers, sends silly gifts to friends and family, is exploring new forms of musical entertainment, and endlessly studies the human condition wherever, in whatever form, and as often as she may do so.

More meaty than most Harlequin romances. Lily suffered brain damage in a kayaking accident that greatly reduced her ability to have short term memory. She copes by taking copious notes in her notebook and sticky notes everywhere - everything from people's names to work assignments to reminders to watch for her cat trying to escape. She runs a temp secretarial agency and must step in to handle Zack. They fall in love but have several hiccups along the way.

The two make love but the scenes are not explicit.

Overall a lovely change in this genre.

I just know I need to read this when I read the manga adaptation. Lily, blessed with her heart, is one of strong heroin (if we look back at the standard of Mill & Boon). She suffered from brain damage and her family basically shunned her while she was vulnerable. Not to mention, her ex-fiance. Classic. But, predictable. Then, enter Zach.
Family man, but a strict businessman. He is unaware of her situation. Thankfully, he is not some arrogant asshole 'ML' type. And I do think he is a nice 'ML'. However, I love his mother and brother.
Their love story is cheesy but cute. I am really sad for Lily that she needs to note everything because she knew she gonna forgot all about what she had done. And her parents were the worst. Literally the worst parents ever. Her father is an enabler for his wife's decision. Like, what the hell? If I was Lily, I totally gonna go for no contact with her parents. (What does it sounds like 'Am I The Asshole' Reddit community?)
Overall, I like this book. Because it is adorable.

The “hero”... 🤢

It was okay, but slow. After working with individuals with traumatic brain injuries for 5 years and then helping individuals with disabilities obtain employment for another 4 years, I find it difficult that a survivor would have such difficulties with sharing her limitations. That's one of the major things that is discussed while an individual is in rehab.
Include the fact that it was such a short time since her injury, and not only was she successfully living on her own, while starting and running her own business, it makes it difficult for me to accept her secrecy and self-doubt about her own abilities. Especially, she has a good relationship with one of the hospital staff who was apparently a good friend and she volunteered at the hospital/facility she had been in. Those issues alone should have helped her self-esteem.
Outside of my issues related to the heroine's disability, the story was cute, but it won't be on my 'keeper' shelf.

Such a sweet little Harlequin! This is my first book by this author, but it won't be my last. She's really great at that oh-so-cheesy ultram sweetness that I so dearly love to wallow in every once in awhile.

A fun, light read that I would definitely recommend.
