Linda Kay Silva, a.k.a. Storm, lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her partner and a menagerie of animals. She wakes up happy, laughs all day long, and lives a life that had included African safaris, Thai temples, riding Harleys, and floating down rivers on bamboo rafts. By day, she is a World, American, British, Asian, and Women’s Literature Professor at a military university. By night, she is a lover of all things zombie-esque and will watch any movie where a zombie eats a human being. She’s has been known to offer parts in her books to her students, who touch her life as much as she hopes she touches theirs. 2.5 stars. TW: SA. Not really spoilers since it’s in the beginning of the book. The writing is slightly corny and childish. It isn’t entirely off-putting except that a lot of the story revolves around women being raped in a jungle and the writing is too casual for the content. (Example quote: “Believe me, Megan, you have never met a man like me, and you haven’t the first idea what a man in my position might want” “I’ll spell it out for you. R-A-P-E.” )
The characters are also hyper-idolized almost in a corny YA style. There are strong Lesbian relationships and friendships but it still feels forced.
Rape, sexual slavery, and violence against women is not uncommon and typically when it’s in a plot of a book or a movie it doesn’t off-put me because it is a part of real life. However the writing seems lazy and light for such a grave subject.
I finished the book, it’s about as good as a cheesy action movie honestly.
An action adventure story with a lot of action. There is almost too much action to follow but the characters are fun if not all together believable. This story leads into its sequel Storm Rising which is the actual Delta Stevens #6, Tropical Storm is #5.
