A fun, tightly-written, tense, exciting short story about humans fleeing an Earth that's been consumed in atomic fire. Dated, of course, but still an enjoyable adventure.

A fragment of a space opera or a probable future. The point of view of a main character that is doomed by the story. He is no hero but there is no sense in just waiting. Such an unexpected ending! Twenty pages where every single image described and every dialog is meaningful. It is extremely difficult to fit a world, a story, a good ending and a message to the future in 20 pages. Thanks Wil Wheaton for sharing this story. (free ebook on Project Gutenberg and free audiobook from Radio Free Burrito!)
