I finished School Neuropsychology and honestly felt like I'd been through a long, loud, emotional family dinner. James B. Hale follows three generations of women packed into one house during a heat wave, and the scene where the grandmother quietly pours ice water on the stove-top argument and tells everyone to sit down is perfect. It's messy, loving, and a little exhausting. The back half drags when the timeline starts bouncing around. Who this is for: readers who love big, noisy families. Who should pass: anybody who wants a calm, linear story.

I figured School Neuropsychology: A Practitioner's Handbook would be another overhyped bestseller, and it kind of is, but I still enjoyed myself. Hale, James B. knows what readers want and delivers it with some style. It's not deep, just well-made. Good for a beach bag, skip if you want something to chew on.
