The Golem of Prague: A New Adaptation of the Documented Stories of the Golem of Prague

Rate this book
Experience one of the most startling and controversial metaphysical Jewish events of all the creation of a golem, a man crafted out of clay by the exalted Rabbi Yehudah Loevy ben Bezalel (the Maharal) of Prague to protect sixteenth-century Jews from persecution. The author skillfully captures the essence of the golem and examines its aftermath objectively. Features a dramatized adaptation of the documented adventures of the golem and includes a comprehensive overview of Jewish mysticism, black magic, demonology, miracles and science, plus a summary of other golems in Jewish history. Read it for pleasure as well as perspective.

Fabulous book. Awesome stories & written awesome.

In 1909, an old manuscript was discovered in the Main Library of Metz, authored by the Maharal's disciple & son-in-law, R' Yitzchak Katz. The stories in this book are based on R' Katz' original publication "Niflaos Maharal:HaGolem M'Prague", published by R' Yudel Rosenberg in Warsaw, 1909.

The destruction of the golem is narrated by R' Yitzchok ben Shimshon HaKohen Katz.

My favorite book concerning the mythos of the Golem of Prague. It compiles many legends, including trivia and the basis of its creation and destruction, and is the most thorough and heartfelt of my golem books. Highly recommended!

A very entertaining and educational introduction to Jewish culture and religion in general, as well as the Torah, and the believes and rituals of Jewish mystics in the 1500's and earlier.

I think, as an outsider, others with an interest in both fiction, and real historical texts and practices, will find a lot of material here.
