It’s certainly thorough (nearly 700 pages long), but it’s never boring. Parrish gives an incredible glimpse into the life of this humble servant of God, teacher, educator, and innovator.
I like the book but mostly because of the subject. Elder Widtsoe led and amazing and interesting life. Unfortunately, the book could have been much shorter had so many experiences and entire quotations not been repeated so often. Other than that, however, the author does a good job of staying out of the way of his subject, and Elder Widtsoe's greatness shines through.
I loved this book partly because it was well written but mostly because it was a wonderful opportunity to learn about an immensely successful man. His life is inspiring because he accomplished so much yet was so down to earth. As a scientist, I also gained insights into what it takes to be successful in an academic science career.
