By Elizabeth Rice Handford. This is a small volume of great, character-building stories based on truths from the Book of Proverbs, for which children will have an appreciation. Illustrations are included for each of the 20 short stories.
This book was great. My husband and I read it when we were kids, and our son did, too. The Biblical themes are clear to younger children.
My husband was especially impressed with the story of Pete, who had more temptation than he could handle. Our son had a similar issue; the story told just enough so a young man would understand both the sin and the Grace that takes it away.
What delighted me most in this book, was that in each chapter a different character would learn something by their actions (ether good or bad), and then they would remember the good lesson for the next time and act on it.
I read this to my 6, 10, and 11-year-old children. They literally cheered every day when I pulled this book out! I would say some of the stories are a bit dated, but the biblical lessons are timeless. The stories are still enjoyable to read and give the kids a concrete example of applying a spiritual truth. I can guarantee we'll be reading this one again!
Those Kids in Proverbsville is one of the best books I've read when I was younger. It was mandatory for Literature but the book is so great it didn't feel like it's for school! haha! A great read! Children will defintely love it! It's a Christian book so parents have nothing to worry about.
Just finished reading to my 5 and 7 year old children. Great book with short stories for kids about values! My kids really enjoyed it, and when something comes up, we can refer back to a story on the matter which makes them understand it a little better.
