This book tells what a firefighter does in an emergency from beginning to end. It also has fun firefighting facts throughout the book that I learned something from, as well. I like that the fact supplement a larger story that is being told, rather than the whole book just being listed facts. There are also resources in the back of the book that provide students with the opportunity to learn more. Children love learning about firefighters so I think this book would be a huge hit. This book could be used in a unit on community helpers. It could also be read prior to visiting a fire station or having firefighters visit the school. I think it would allow students to be more prepared for the visit and ask more informed questions. Regardless of its use, I think students would enjoy this book simply because of the subject matter.

would i buy this for my library's collection, absolutely. would i ever elect to read it in a story time, no way. this is the kind of thing that certain children will drool over and exasperated parents of said children will appreciate finding on your shelves. get me?

Good informational book but not as a read aloud for story time.
