The Eatons #7

Sweet Southern Nights

Rate this book
The Kentucky clinic where Dr. Levi Eaton is volunteering is worlds away from his wealthy Pennsylvania roots. Still, the South has plenty of attractions-like his colleague's captivating sister. Angela Chase is sexy, charming and looking for fun, not commitment. That combination suits Levi just fine, until he begins to appreciate what lies beneath her Southern belle facade. Her fiancé's betrayal destroyed Angela's faith in men-and inspired a double life that would surprise her prominent family. Hiding her true self from a man as charismatic as Levi isn't so easy, and for once, she isn't sure she wants to try. But without the courage to trust him with her secrets, their sultry Southern nights may soon be just a haunting memory....

This was a really good story about honesty and living the life you want rather then the life your family wants. Both Levi and Angela were very likeable and the fact they both had very set ideas of what they wanted from a relationship was both refreshing and endearing. The story had a real feel of the old adage.. "the best revenge is a life well lead" and I have to say this was a prime example of a life well lead by both Levi and Angela. This was defiantly a feel good tale of two people who worked hard and played just as hard and it is a story I would tell my friends about just for the feel good factor!

I really enjoyed this addition to the Eaton family series. I loved that Angela was a bestselling romance author and Levi, a fantastic paediatrician, and I loved the set up of their friendship and eventual relationship. I’m usually not a huge fan of the relationship of convenience trope but I think it was done quite well here and it worked. Even though Levi was pretty old-fashioned in his beliefs about the role of a man in a relationship, it was never in doubt how much he respected Angela and to be honest, I like old-fashioned romances.

The premise of this is that Levi is temporarily working in Louisville as a pediatrician when he meets commitment-shy Angela, who’s understandably so after being publicly jilted pretty much at the altar. Now, Angela’s trifling ex is back in town and Levi steps in to help Angela pretend a relationship (of convenience) that makes it appear she has not been pining for said trifling ex. They develop a friendship which transitions to lovers’ benefits, but with secrets and mistrust and a fear of getting hurt, their budding relationship might be in jeopardy. I thought the premise was great, even though I’m not the hugest fan of relationship with benefits tropes- this was done well. However, I do feel like the ex disappeared on the novel after he was so vital to the set up. I wish he had been used to create more conflict in the novel. His absence did cause this to be a pretty low drama, no-angst, easy-reading novel. I listened to this on audio via Audible Escape and I thought the performance was pretty great- especially sped up a bit!

This story of Angela Chase and Levi Eaton had the potential to be a good story line. Angela is an undercover romance writer, who also works in an antique shop with her cousin and Levi is a pediatrician doing community service and engagement for a 6 month stint down in Kentucky at the urging of his friend and Angela's brother, Duncan. Duncan asks Levi to escort Angela to a wedding of one of her family members. They meet, they hit it off, but Angela is a bit wary of men due to circumstances in her past.

The story was in audiobook form and I didn't quite like it. I don't know if it was because of the voice or the story just seemed a bit disjointed as far as spatial timing. It was off. When they would switch scenes, I was never sure if it was immediately proceeding the previous scene or it was a different timeframe all together. I would have to keep going back and rewind to make sure I didn't miss anything. The reader sounded very automatic instead of having a nice flow in his words. I wish I could give it more more stars, but I can't.

Entertaining

I'm pensive and reflective during and after reading this entertaining book of the "Eaton" series. This book has been my favorite so far. I believe that I can relate to Angela, the character. It was a two day read that normally takes an afternoon.
I enjoy the author's works since reading, "A Younger Man".

This story started out with Levi which I wasn't too sure about at first. I started liking it more when she introduced Angela, whom I fell in love with right away. Angela was very sweet, kind, seemed soft spoken, and had been burned before. I did start liking Levi too as I got to know him. There was great character development. I really had a good picture of all the "players" in the story. The problem was that I was picturing them in a "Soap opera".

The whole story, while being sweet and romantic was still very slow going for me. I kept waiting for the big bang and there was none. I guess that's what happens in Romance novels where romance is the main focus. So many ideas could have been built up more in my opinion. Angela was a Romance author but this was only mentioned a couple times until the end when there was an argument about it. Also the fact that she had missed out on a singing career. All the things that I thought would have made it more exciting were only slightly touched upon which left it only an OK sweet story.

I did love Angela's cat - Miss Divine or "Miss Dee" for short. I thought it was great that she talked to her cat (I talk to mine) and that Levi was also a cat person and really took a liking to the cat. I think this was my favorite part of the book.

Still... even though it was slow for me, I did enjoy it enough to keep reading. I loved the characters (and the cat).
This was my very first Harlequin romance! I don't think it was the Author's fault that I did not love the book - I think she did a great job, it was beautifully written. I just think that maybe true romance is not really for me.

This was the first book that I have read from The Eaton series. Before this, the only Rochelle Alers books that I had read were the short story compilations (Living Large, Rosie's Curl And Weave, Della's House of Style, etc).

In this book, Levi Eaton and Angela Chase are two who have all but sworn off love relationships and settled for “just friends” instead of romantic commitments. The two are set up together as a favor to Angela’s brother, but they cannot ignore their strong attraction to one another. As they spend more time together, just friends becomes more and more difficult, and both start to rethink their love philosophies.

This story was mainly a sweet, simple love story. This was so much the case that, unfortunately, there was no real tension or climax in the book. This made the book move a little slower than it should have. In the last chapter or two, the author tried to create some tension, but it felt very forced, was short lived, and just did not work.

If you are looking for a sweet love story with no tension, then this is a good read for that. It you want a little more of a true to life romance with real problems to which you can relate, then look elsewhere.

Sweet Southern Nights by Rochelle Alers
4 STARS
I had a nice enjoyable break reading Sweet Sourthern Nights. Also learned a few new facts at the same time.
Dr. Levi Eaton is working in Kentucky for six months. He has a practice in New York city. When he is asked to take Duncan Chase's sister to a wedding in two days. He calls her and agrees to have dinner the night before so they knew a little about each other first.
Angela Chase five years ago the day before her wedding got a call from her fiance saying he and her best friend where flying to vegas to get married because they were having a baby. After that she dated a lot not wanting to get serious with anyone. At her cousin will be the first time she has seen the pair since they left her.
Angela owns a gift shop with her cousin and only two of her family knows that she writes romance novels under a different name. Angela only trusts her family now days.
Levi agrees to help her to seem to be serious as a couple when she finds that they are moving back to town. Levi does not want to get serious with anyone when he is going back to New York in a few months. He promises Angela that he won't lie to her or cheat on her.
Angela shows him around the kentuck derby and she is a southern belle.
They were fun to watch. I hope her brothers will get a book about them.
There were a few love scenes in the book.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review by Netgalley.

The Eaton clan is an extended family of mostly teachers and doctors. In this installment, Levi Eaton has left his Manhattan practice to spend some time volunteering at a clinic in Kentucky (the wealthy Eatons are also dedicated to philanthropy). His colleague asks him to escort his sister, Angela Chase, to a family wedding and the sparks fly. But since Levi is only in town for a short time and Angela has sworn of men for a while, the two agree to just have fun and enjoy each other. Of course, this being a romance novel, that doesn't hold up for long.

I really enjoy Rochelle Alers' books and am currently reading some of her older ones that I missed. This one was just okay, though, and the big secret that Angela was keeping from Levi was sort of a letdown. I'm glad I read it, however, as I'm sure there are more Eatons to be written about in the future.

Although I liked Levi's character i found that i didn't necessarily enjoy the endless blah blah blah because it felt as if the author took short cuts especially with the love scenes it felt like she half-stepped and some of it just fell flat. I didn't hate this book but i didn't love it either, i was bored.

Angela and Levi had a matched handed to them and made it work by thinking nothing would come of it. I found this read to be lite and refreshing with its southern charm. I am most looking for the next book with the Eaton cousin. The little tease presented has certainly sparked my interest.

I didn't understand why she was keeping the fact that she was a writer a secret. And what was the purpose of introducing her ex, I thought there would have been more details of their break up
