I adore Margaret Shepherd. Her books are funny, whimsical, and technically proficient. If you want to learn how to do calligraphy, she's one of the best ones out there.

Her book on decorating a page is a lot of fun. She gets into design and how to think about the visual impact of the art that you're creating.

Highly recommended.
