Louisiana's Legal foibles and follies. From Edwin Edwards' outlandish antics to Chicken King Al Copeland's romances, this is a collection of stories about 10 of New Orleans' most memorable high-profile litigants. Each chapter features a concise history of one of the colorful personalities whose trials and tribulations have captured attention for decades. Featured characters include, Chinese Cowboy Harry Lee, Singing DA Harry Connick Sr., Larger-Than-Life Darleen Jacobs, State Senator Michael O'Keefe, NOPD officer Antoine Saacks, and TV reporter Richard Angelico, among others.
While the material (10 of the more flamboyant - and often litigious - residents of our fine state) is fascinating and fairly well researched, the writing isn't equal to the subject. At best, the text is surprisingly dry considering what they're writing about, and, in some cases, also poorly arranged. In my opinion, this is because many of the contributors are either broadcast and print journalists, which gives a "just the facts, ma'am" feel to the writing, or are the authors of such gripping page-turners as "Covering the Courts: A Handbook for Journalists" and "The Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission". Ho hum.
