- много иллюстраций, архитектура, археологические раскопки, статуи, портреты и т.п.
- литературные свидетельства эпох: цитаты из священных книг, брачных контрактов, молитв, писем, словом всех видов сохранившихся текстов.
- понятные нормальному человеку карты)))
- очень доступная подача информации. Учебники очень дорогие, но смотришь на форматирование, подачу, качество иллюстраций, схем, и понимаешь, что сюда вложен труд многих людей, а не сделано "лишь бы успеть к сдаче в типографию".

Проблема одна, для меня нового нашлось мало. Читала больше как сборник свидетельств времён. Хотела всё-таки после годового курса общей истории чего-то глубже, более challenging, помимо освежения знаний, но это уровень учебника таков, это не недостаток, просто я взяла не то, что нужно.
В целом могу только позавидовать тем, кто учится по таким учебникам. Как я понимаю это уровень 11-12-го класса, или 10-11 по нашему, и первый курс колледжа. Учебники истории моего времени могли только внушить священный ужас и трепет первокурснику от бледного шрифта на газетной бумаге. Иллюстрацией к учебнику шла библиотечная печать, и хватит с вас, самые лучшие иллюстрации — свои в голове. А в школьных учебниках мне нравились только иллюстрации в 5-6 классе к истории древнего мира/Средних веков, потом видимо художник выдохся и прочувствовал экзистенциальный ужас 90-х весь сполна.

I had to read this book for a world history class I took, but I really enjoyed reading it! The author did a great job of giving a nice overview of world history up to about 1500. I like the way that various texts, poetry, and quotes from history are included and explained in the book. Important dates and people are mentioned, but the focus is more on the daily life of people in each place and the trends that continued throughout different empires, not an endless list of important names and dates.

If you're looking for a nice overview of World History, this book can definitely put things into context for you!
