This is a sweet Christmas story that made me feel good. I was glad Shea had to be at the police station looking for the problem with the code that her company sold to the police. It was funny that Shea was frustrated when Jake came into the room she was working in to also work. The two seem so opposite. Shea is happy and very optimistic and Jake has a frown and is a little grumpy. Because of his broken ankle, Jake becomes the Christmas Cop who has to be in charge of getting gifts for underprivileged children as well as volunteers of time, money and toys. I was glad to see how he started to get into the project with Shea’s help. I enjoyed watching Shea and Jake get to know each other. I encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

The Christmas Cop by Barbara McMahon is a standalone Christmas story about a homicide detective, Jake Morgan who was injured on the job and is given a desk job while recovering...being the department’s Christmas Cop. Uh oh...Mr. Grinch doesn’t like Christmas...
Shea O’Reilly is working in the police department on the coding error for a program her company sold the police. When in walks Jake...Mr. Grumpy and when he is handed boxes of paperwork to organize for the Christmas gift giving for underprivileged kids all thing Christmas happen!!
Will these two spend time planning the Christmas giving, show Jake what the spirit is all about and maybe he will open his heart to finding love along the way...great feel good Christmas story!!
The story will start at the Mondano Police Department, where computer programmer Shea O’Riley is trying to find the problem within the code for a new program that will be used by the police department. Injured detective Jake Morgan is returning to work on desk duty and will be sharing the same office area as Shea. Preconceived notions might begin this story, but once they get to know each other, a friendship to a relationship will develop.
The story will have Jake returning to desk duty while his ankle heals, and he will be assigned to investigate cold cases. The room he is in also has a pink-haired woman who is working on computer codes. While he is working, he will be assigned the job of organizing and making Christmas special for children in need. The other offices tease him about being ‘Christmas Cop.’
I loved the slow friendship, camaraderie, and eventually relationship that develops between Shea and Jake. They have both been raised differently, Shea within a happy home and one that loved celebrating Christmas—whereas Jake, losing his parents when he was young, was a foster child. With the job of Christmas Cop and completely at a loss, Shea jumps in to help him. She shares with him the joy of Christmas, watching movies, decorating, and doing for others. It doesn’t take long for Shea to teach Jake the ropes and even expand on what had been done in the past. The more time they spend together, the closer they become and develop feelings for one another. What will happen when the project ends?
“It was fun to be part of a couple. Not that they were a couple, necessarily. But they did watch movies together, eat together, work together.”
“You brighten my days. Expose me to a whole other world I’ve never experienced. I didn’t want this assignment, but you made it one of the best things I’ve ever done. You were with me every step of the way. And it turned out to be more rewarding than anything else.”
The Christmas Cop by Barbara McMahon is a feel-good Christmas novella revolving around taciturn police detective, Jake Morgan and computer programmer, Shea O'Riley. They have both been stuck in a deserted office, which was actually fine with both of them. Jake had broken his ankle and was on light-duty and Shea was a computer programmer searching out a bug in the software her company had sold the police department. He noticed how odd she was. She had pink hair and she popped up every hour to walk in circles around the office, getting her steps, she explained. She offered to get him lunch when she went to get hers. They talked. When the department officially assigned Jake the job of Christmas cop, collecting and distributing toys to needy children, she was right there helping. She mad it so much easier. Pretty soon she was indispensible to him, pink hair and all.
This was indeed a feel-good story, which is what McMahon does best. It was simple and straightforward. Two unlikely people falling in love AND making a bunch of families happy at Christmas to boot. Good characters, a simple story, masterfully told. What more could a reader want leading up to Christmas?
I was invited to read a free ARC of The Christmas Cop by the author. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own.
THE.CHRISTMAS..COP... ...Barbara..McMahon Shea was busy at her computer looking line by line on the code text. In the office it passed, on site for the police department it came ip with a glitch. She was working in a basement room by herself, when a cop with a broken ankle and cane stopped. Demanding of what she was doing there, was it the pink hair he didn't like. Also thinking she looked like a teenager and was playing games. He was back to work before he was really ready, and hope to have the cast off of his ankle by Christmas. The cops also named him as Santa this year to give out the presents for the kids, Working on cold cases wasn't too bad of an assignment. She wasn’t the distraction he thought, and little by little they were getting to know each other. She loved Christmas, and seeing a stocking she had hung for him, with memories of never having gotten one before. Replying, she said, stick with me, and you will have one each year. Cute story and how things change for Jake especially, meeting Shea brought him a lightness, and love of Christmas he didnt have before. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
This was another such a feel good book. Shea O'Riley is a happy, quirky, pink haired IT person working at the police department to work out a computer program glitch. She loves her work and loves decorating for Christmas. While working in the office she meets policeman, Jake Morgan, who is at a temporary desk job due to a broken ankle. Much to Jake's surprise he has been named the Christmas Cop to buy gifts and food for the needy children and families. He knows nothing about kids or the toys they would be interested in. So, he solicits help from Shea who is more than eager to help his cause. Shea is very organized so she gets Jake on track with his list of duties very quickly. They go on a few dates and maybe some feelings are forming. Shea overhears some cops talking that Jake was just using her for his project and how could he be interested in a pink haired girl who is not his usual type. Well, you will have to read this great story to find out if Jake is just using her. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is a sweet, clean Christmas novella that is touching and heartwarming. Detective Jake Morgan is a man dedicated to his job. A man whose childhood was spent in a children’s home after his parents died when he was very young. His memories of Christmas past are not those of happiness. Being on a disability leave , though working on cold cases, he’s assigned to be the Christmas Cop. A job that entails organizing and distributed gifts for the underprivileged kids. A job he doesn’t want. Shea O’Reilly , a computer wiz and owner of a program that’s being used in his police department, meets Jake while she’s trying to find a glitch in the program. She’s all about Christmas and takes it upon herself to help Jake. Not realizing that in doing so, she was also making new memories for him. Will the friendship and romance blossom between them be lasting, or will each go their own way after Christmas? Aside for a sweet story, it’s also a reminder that Christmas is about sharing and helping those in need. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I want to thank Barbara McMahon, author and Goodreads First Reads Giveway for The Christmas Cop part of A Sweet Clean Christmas Romance Collection ~ Book 1 that I won in the Giveaway.
Jake is a cop on limited duty with a gurmpy attitude when he went back to work doing desk work reviewing cold cases and then he is assigned to be The Christmas Cop. That is a project the police department does each December to deliver toys and clothes to needy children in the town.
Shea has been working at the police station on a new software with a glitch for a week when Jake arrives and they work on their seperate projects in the same room. Shea helps Jake organize the lists for the presents and they add Christmas dinner for the families too. Shea is a pink hair bubbly person compared the Jake's grumpy attitude; this is an oppoites attract story with a happy ending and lots of Christmas cheer.
Shea O’Reilly is working at the police station to find the glitch in the new software that Shea and her company developed for the department. Due to a broken ankle, Police detective Jake Morgan is working on cold cases sharing space with Shea. Jake isn't happy when his Lieutenant asks him to be the point man for the toys drive for the children. Shea doesn't understand why Jake is down about this task since Christmas is her favorite season. This is a sweet Christmas romance that spreads Christmas cheer. I love how Shea shows Jake how he can bring brightness to other's lives. I also love how their relationship builds slowly over lunches. The Christmas Cop is a sweet, clean and delightful story about the joy that can be found in giving and falling in love. Injured cop Jake has no choice but to accept the assignment as his department’s Christmas Cop which means he must coordinate the program that provides gifts to needy children. Computer guru Shae, working at the station debugging an IT program can’t prevent herself from helping. Ms. McMahon has created characters that readers would love to meet as a community comes together to assist. It is the perfect read to get readers into the season. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Highly recommend.
This was a fun, romantic story set around a Christmas for Kids program at the Mondano Police Department. The main characters of Shea O'Riley and Jake Morgan are opposites that were thrown together because of their jobs. Jake was a police officer and Shea with her pink hair was a computer geek trying to find a glitch in the police program her company designed. The story was heartwarming and surprising too and full of the Christmas spirit of love, hope, and caring. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
"The Christmas Cop" by Barbara McMahon A wonderful sweet clean contemporary romance so full of possibilities. Yes, it is a Christmas season story, but don't wait until December to devour this delectable read. A story you will be proud to share with anyone. I bet you have guessed that I truly did love reading this story. Happy Reading ! ! Note: I received an ARC of this story to read for typo's and that I would post my honest review.
I like this story because it really did bring out the good of these police officers who came to see the happiness on these children's faces, and how much toys, food were distribute by these volunteers who showed gratitude.
Okay. The christmas spirit part was good but the love story was unconvincing. If they would have decided to keep dating at the end of the book,it would have been more believable. I couldn't understand the "out of the blue love and marriage" ending.
A wonderful, easy Christmas read. Jake meets Shea while she is working out the bugs in a program her company developed. She is nothing like he expects and is a great counter to his gruff self.
Pretty quick read. Overall the story was so-so. The description isn't also exactly as I would imagined the story go. Cute, but predictable and felt a little quick to wrap things up at the end.
I have read the series and this is my favorite. It just put me in the spirit. I liked how much was done for those in need. Main characters were adorable
These two were definitely opposites. Shea is cheerful, outgoing, talkative, helpful , etc. Jake is grumpy, likes to be by himself, quiet, and doesn't like to step outside his comfort zone. They are sharing an office so how do you think that will go? Loved them together. Their attraction is strong and their opposite personalities seem to mesh well. Laughed at their internal dialogue especially in regard to each other. Great Christmas romance.
