The Romance Review

Betrayal, infidelity, jealousy, hot ménage, sanctimonious parents, steadfast best friends, what isn't in this book? Oh right, my favourite erotic genre, BDSM. I can forgive Ms. Dalton leaving out the BDSM because this book drew out various emotions from me – anger, frustration, sorrow, pain, pleasure – the list goes on. Ms. Dalton is an auto-buy.

In STONEFACE, I'm once again gasping in sympathy pains for the characters she creates. I'm sensing a reoccurring theme in her books, which I enjoy. The theme is betrayal. The personal betrayals the lead character experiences are realistic and cuts so deep. Gwen experiences many setbacks in her life. Her ex-husband drunk repeatedly calls her after their divorce due to his infidelity. As the youngest of three siblings, she was surprisingly not treated as a loved baby of the family. Instead, she's the whipping boy by her conservative and controlling parents. Lest the reader think Gwen is a young "thing", she's in her 30s and an accomplished erotic writer. The abuse she quietly suffers from her parents makes me go into a blind rage. I can't abide by their narrow-minded caustic behavior and cruel biting emotional blackmail.

Gwen's older sister and brother are both too weak to stand up to their parents. It's like watching a train wreck hostage situation. To top this off, Gwen's sister goes off the reservation in a crazy manner that drags both Gwen and her brother to search for her, for fear of foul play. This is when the saving light finally shines on Gwen. Her fan, beta reader Tim, lives in the city where Gwen's sister Amy is last seen. Tim and his boyfriend, Jake, help Gwen out and entice her into a hot ménage. Finally Gwen experiences some good fortune. I'm happy for her. Ms. Dalton can't leave it at that because there isn't enough pain in Gwen's life. Instead, we are treated to more slices of pain and then a heavy heaping of salt into open bleeding wounds. Please Ms. Dalton, I can't take anymore. Stop with the sadistic emotional pain you inflict upon your poor characters!

Through all of this, Gwen's brother, Liam, helps her through the pain and growth. While the situations that happened to Gwen is like a trashy episode on Jerry Springer with anticipated outcomes, I'm still captivated. Why? Because of the way the story was told. This contemporary ménage romance where the triad is really a triangle, not a v triad, demonstrated the ups and downs with real to life experiences.

In addition, no one person was fully evil. Each person made some bad choices and they had to deal with the consequences. Ms. Dalton has a gift of showing us the flaws we make as humans and how we can overcome them. What I get most out of Ms. Dalton's books is hope. Even when the character hits rock bottom, Ms. Dalton writes in a way to bring that person back up and hope for a better future. The pain she visits on her characters provide them ways to grow and mature. I love this underlying message.

How can I leave out the sex? Please, there are two super hot men in a hot tub with a cute sexy erotic writer. Do I need to say more?

STONEFACE delivers hot sexy scenes which didn't feel forced. I was happily aroused by the threesome. I can always count on Ms. Dalton for hot sex scenes. STONEFACE did not disappoint in the sex department.

I recommend this to erotic romance lovers who enjoy hope triumphing over sorrow. Basically, by this book and read it!

I think Dalton might have replaced Safe Harbor as my fav book with this one. If not it's damn close. The thing about Dalton books beside some of the strongest character books ive ever read, what she does with her books is she gives you a complete story... And still leaves you wanting more. This is a book about becoming more than you thought you could be. And no matter how dark your feelings or perspective of life is in that moment it is that you can have more and be more than what holds you back. That you can choose how life and the shit that happens can define you.

The moment between Gwen and Amy about how the "wife" will feel... That is a scene I don't think I'll ever forget. For Dalton to pour so much emotion and to put into words what it would feel like was just amazon. I had to walk away and calm down... The tears would not let up! It was beautifully painful to read... Just amazing writing.

Even if you're not a fan of MMF stories that is such a small part of the book... Sure this is book of love and romance but it's so much more. There isn't a char in this book that didn't grow. It is a story about surviving... And living.

For me, Tymber Dalton is a bit of a guilty pleasure even within the guilty pleasures of romance novels. There's really not a whole lot of literary merit in her books -- but they are fun, fast, interesting, and very sexy.

I especially love lines like these:

Dignity? What dignity. She wanted to get laid. And if she had two willing hunks ready and able to do it, she wasn’t about to turn them down.

and

Oh, fuck it. They were cute, horny, and in the same bed she was. If that made her a slut, she couldn’t care less.

Those kind of epitomize the attitude of the whole book. Snappy prose, not taking itself too seriously, not ashamed to take what it wants.

In other books, I sometimes complain about the author throwing in too many melodramatic elements to the plot -- and there are plenty of those here as well. The difference is that Dalton has the writing chops to work all those elements together into a smooth, relatively realistic-seeming plot. A less talented writer would have me groaning and rolling my eyes at some of the plot points, but with Dalton's talented hand I can just sit back and enjoy. :)

Stoneface is a tale with characters that you fall in love with because of the emotions they invoke and the complexity of the story that is told. The storytelling is intense and gripping. Why can’t all love stories be this sexy yet sweet?

Gwen is a woman forged in strength. She is a very strong woman that has had to survive first the repressive hand of her parents, but then the cheating of her ex-husband. She has an amazing career and supportive siblings. Her strength is tested when she must go search for her missing sister, Amy. Gwen battles her crippling fear of flying to search for her sister in Rapid City, South Dakota. While in Rapid City Gwen meets lovers, Tim and Jack.

Tim has been a fan of Gwen’s for years and she has held a secret place for her in his heart. He is the owner of two bookstores, one in Laguna Beach, California and the other in Rapid City. They have shared an internet correspondence relationship that has blossomed into an amazing online friendship, though they have never met face to face. Gwen has no idea that Tim has relocated to Rapid City and is pleasantly shocked to find a friendly face when she needs one most.

Jack is known to his lover as Stoneface. He is a strong brooding man with a painful past and rarely shows his softer side. He is a detective in town and his first meeting with a feisty Gwen is a memorable one. There are several reasons Jack won’t initially help Gwen help find her sister, one of them being she reminds him of someone. Eager to have her business in town complete, Jack assists her with the task and the mystery behind the missing sister is revealed.

In the midst of the whole mystery of Amy, the three of them find that their attraction is too strong and they don’t waste any time showing it. But this is a case of too much too soon and after a painful confrontation they go their separate ways. Their time apart is riddled with pain and change.

The subplot of Amy’s disappearance truly weaves this story together. It compiles all the characters, to make an engaging and appealing story. Ms. Dalton wrote an enthralling tale that showcased her ability to write believable characters with emotions and depth. She captures your attention and you feel like you are a part of their journey and tribulations.

Stoneface is an exceptionally well written story. The love and pain these three characters share is so strong and touching, all you can do is open your heart to them. This is another Dalton tale that will forever be a part of my collection.

What I liked most about Stoneface was the maturity of the characters. It's about people who have experienced life, infidelity, been married, divorced, lost important people and had to deal with toxic family members.

The biggest like factor for me was Liam, I just thought he was a wonderful character. I would love to see him get a book, he was the heart and soul of Stoneface, which is interesting as he isn't technically one of the main characters, even though he has a lot of page time. Liam delivered some wonderful moments when dropping bombs calmly on his parents. He also gave sage advice to his sister, Gwen, on many ocassions, and protected his younger sister despite his dealing with MS as part of his life.

Tim was also a delightful character - warm, very giving, fun, kind but equally serious about what mattered most to him. He had great faith and trust in those around him. This enabled him to prop up Jack and understand his issues, even when the outcome was not so good for Tim. Tim and Gwen were a comfortable fit, he had been emailing her for years and he liked and admired her professionally as well as personally. Even before meeting Gwen he made her smile and feel good, but that was Tim always there for those he cared about.

Jack, I had difficulty liking him to be honest. I understood his chronic grief, but he was difficult for me to tap into. I found he was wooden and I just couldn't get past the Gwen/Mel comparisons. I wasn't convinced of his reasons for being with Gwen, perhaps right near the end I felt it more, it just wasn't a comfortable fit for me. Jack with Tim? I had no problems with their relationship, they seemed so solid in their love. Tim gave a lot to Jack, which Jack needed, soaked up.

Gwen's parents, sadly, are not atypical, so many like them out there. They were written so well and the family did try hard, barring dad, to love one another. There were the usual family dynamics of one child being favoured by a parent, two siblings being closer. Gwen's friend Ruthie? Well, all I can say is I would not have been as kind when dealing with her friend's sister or her ex. However, she did have her reasons and they were all valid and believable. More power to Ruthie I guess.

I rated Stoneface as a 4 star read because, inspite of my Jack reservations, this book is so well written and mature. I like Tymber Dalton, she is nothing if not grounded in reality, with a nice sexy edge. The Reluctant Dom is still my favourite but I'm working through her catalogue. I enjoyed Stoneface, it was an easy read and it had great heart.

4.0 Stars!

This was a very satisfying read. It was not to short and the action did not happen too quickly. Erotic Romance writer, Gwen Oxford, visits Rapid city and runs into one of her biggest fans, Tim who is half of a gay couple and book store owner who has been exchanging emails with her for two years. He offers the hospitality of his home while She and her brother Liam search for their sister and Gwen ends up falling for both Tim and his lover Jack.

What was really touching about this story was how realistic the characters were. Liam, Gwen's in the closet, gay brother with MS, stands by Gwen throughout the novel. He is supportive, caring and funny as hell. Their brother/sister relationship is so warm and loving. Gwen's sister stirs up all sorts of trouble and leads them on a wild goose-chase. Their parents are puritanical, conservative people who have high expectations of their children and as each child (now in their thirties)exposes their secrets and stand up to them....Mom and Dad have a choice to make.

The interaction between Tim and Jack is also funny and sexy and wonderful to watch. Jack came from a triad prior to meeting Tim and was traumatized by it. His lover Pete killed their lover Melodie in a drunk driving accident. Jack has never forgiven Pete and is very skiddish about inviting Gwen into his and Tim's life. Oh, by the way, Gwen looks just like Melodie. Jack is worried when Gwen and Liam's sister Amy is found if they will pick up and take off or stay and commit to Tim and Jack. His fear pushes her away.

This love affair takes place over a year and although they recognize their love for each other quick enough, it deepens and withstands the pressure of time spent apart. Gwen needs to forgive Jack and trust him and Jack needs to face his fear and past before these three can live a happy life.

This is not a "Gone with the Wind" love affair...driving passion, addictive need and wild attraction but rather a fiery, warm, calm love affair that is solid gold and satisfying and makes you smile when you read it. Oh, and the sex is great too! But what else would you expect from this author? You should read it...you will love the story and the characters as they interact with each other and share their lives. Definitely a good read for me!

This is one of the best books I've read so far this year. Especially for a MFM/MM. The best thing about this book besides the hot sweaty sex with the hot already established gay couple, was how real the story felt. With real honest to God human emotions and characters that seemed so real at times I thought I was reading a someone's diary. I absolutely loved it.

Okay let me stop gushing and tell you about it

The Story:

After her sister gone missing, Gwen Oxford is force to face her fear of flying to go after her. It turns out to be a small world after all when she runs into her internet buddy Tim. Tim's boyfriend,Jack,is a detective, who might be able to help her find her siser. Tim and Jack offer her and her brother a place to stay while they are on the search.

Jack has earned his "Stoneface" nickname after personal tragedy hardened his heart. He loves Tim, but Gwen stirs up painful memories that make Jack's feelings for her suspect in his own mind. It doesn't help that he falls in love with her.

But after finding her sister, sh*t hits the fan.Shattered trust, broken hearts, and Liam coming out to their parents in a defiant showdown make Gwen question her priorities. With overprotective and religious parents, crazy/paranoid best friend, and cheating ex. It seems Gwen might not get her happily ever after unless she can get Jake to drop his stoneface facade and learn to trust again.

I know a lot of drama and variables but it comes out and is done properly. I love Liam's and Gwen's relationship. They were more than siblings but best friends also.
Amazing!
Such a Great read.
Hope you enjoy.

And as always…… Happy Reading!!! :)

Another book where once you start you can't stop. Gwenna is a writer who writes M/M. Elias and Jackson have been together for a long time, Elias owns a bookstore and is Gwenna's number one fan. In this book the three meet. We see how Gwenna's life is crazy and chaotic, and her family doesn't help matters. How can Elias and Jackson help. We find out in this book. It's another one that I've read over and over by Tymber.

Gwen has a complicated life with many issues from a cheating ex, highly religious parents, a missing sister and finding love with two men that gets her but through it all she has to find a center. There is so much going on in this story right from the beginning. It had me cheering Gwen and her brother on to getting their chance for happiness.

Stoneface is yet another fantastic erotic romance by the inimitable Tymber Dalton! If you like your romance hot and filled with truly relatable and believable characters, you will love Stoneface.

Gwen Oxford, a/k/a Gwenna Olmsford, is a 30-something writer of erotica, most M/M and hot ménage. And is her life ever complicated! She has a "perfect" older sister, a brother with MS that she adores, and two dyed-in-the-wool fundamentalist parents who criticize her every move, especially her career! She's constantly maneuvering through the minefield that's her family life. But she's very successful in her career, even if her family life is chaotic and her ex-husband drives her batty with his drunk dialing and even more repulsive drunk propositions. And, to top things off, her brother, Liam, comes out to her as being gay! This could all make a gal turn to drink!

Tim Ellis is the owner of Ellis Books in Laguna Beach, California and, more recently, a second location in Rapid City, South Dakota. He's also half of a duo involving Jackson "Stoneface" Kelly, a detective in the Rapid City police department. Tim has been a huge fan of Gwen's for years. In fact, Gwen's publisher sends him advance copies of all her books which he then reviews for his store's website/blog. Gwen and Tim have been emailing back and forth ever since Tim discovered her books years before, and they feel as if they have known each other forever.

Jackson "Jack" Kelly and Tim used to live in Laguna Beach but when Jack's mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, the couple made the decision to move back to Rapid City where Jack was raised. But Jack's past continues to haunt him. A horrible accident years before destroyed his life and his belief in love. The two people he had loved most in life are now gone. But he's moved on with Tim who he loves deeply, although he keeps his emotions buried beneath a stone-like barrier. He seldom smiles, much less laughs. Thus, he has earned Tim's affectionate nickname "Stoneface."

A series of family events involving her older sister forces Gwen to fly to Rapid City (much to her dismay as she is terrified of flying). After a visit to the police department during which she not only meets but almost comes to blows with Jack, she unwittingly and literally runs into Tim. Astonished doesn't begin to how she feels! She was under the impression that Tim and his boyfriend lived in California, not South Dakota. Tim persuades Gwen to stay with him and his boyfriend while looking for her sister. There's an immediate attraction between Gwen and Tim. That night, Gwen learns that the detective she blew up at earlier that day is Tim's boyfriend. Tim is able to smooth things over between the two, and Gwen realizes she is also deeply attracted to Jack. But this is the stuff of dreams...and her books. They're both gay. They couldn't possibly be interested in her, could they?

From this point, the story takes off, and there's no looking back. The relationship between Gwen, Tim and Jack takes off, only to implode just as quickly. Amy, Gwen's older sister is still missing. Liam, Gwen's and Amy's brother, arrives to try to help. When Amy is finally located but refuses to go home, Gwen and Liam return to Ohio. Gwen is brokenhearted but is determined to put this behind her and continue on. Of course, this is far from the end of the story. The adventures continue with twists, turns, and all sorts of unexpected events. Question upon question makes you wonder just how will things work out.

As always, Tymber Dalton is the consummate storyteller, and Stoneface is another of her exceptional books. I am constantly impressed at just how accomplished an author she is. Her characters are always well-developed and well-written. She has a knack for understanding the very basics of human nature and that shines through in every character she creates. As I've written in other reviews, she excels in many different genres, not just in the erotic romance category. Stoneface is an erotic ménage a trois romance that will keep you bewitched, beguiled, as well as hot and bothered, from the first to the very last word. Tymber Dalton is one the few authors who is an automatic buy for me whenever she publishes a new book. She is just that amazing! If you enjoy the erotic romance genre, you'll absolutely LOVE Stoneface.

One final comment. This is an ADULT book. It contains very adult themes, explicit language, and ménage and other explicit sexual scenes. If you do not enjoy this type of eroticica, then PLEASE carefully consider your purchase before buying this book. PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY BOOK IN A GENRE YOU KNOW YOU WILL NOT ENJOY AND THEN LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW OF THE BOOK AS IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE AUTHOR! She works extremely hard to provide a quality work product and if you know before you purchase a book that you will object to the subject matter contained therein, you are doing not only yourself, but the author, an extreme disservice. But if you do enjoy hot, erotic ménage romances, I highly recommend Ms. Dalton's Stoneface. I give it my highest rating without reservation!

Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!

Gwen spends her time dealing with her crazy, extremely annoying, ultra conservative parents, her equally frustrated siblings, and an irritating idiot of an ex-husband. Well, that’s when she’s not off in a world of her own making writing her M/M erotic romances. When her older sister goes on vacation and then disappears, Gwen and her brother fly out to Rapid City to find her. While there, Gwen unexpectedly meets a fan she’d been emailing with, and fantasizing about, for a while…and his partner, who is just as drool-worthy. What happens after that? Well, it is a Tymber Dalton book... what do you think?

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were wonderful. You could feel the frustration all of the siblings had over their parents. You could feel the excitement and love from Tom, and the confusion of Jack. If you are like me, you will also want to thwap some of them upside the head periodically. **sigh**

As is expected from Ms Dalton, there is sex… wonderfully hot sex. But there’s also a great story wrapped around it. Did I mention the hot sex?

I do have to say that this was a slower read than I’ve experienced with most of Tymber Dalton’s books. Part of it, I think is that there were many story lines to follow, and part of it was that the book included a lot of geographical information and the characters hitting the tourist sites. I also found it good but not as great as some of her previous stories. That’s not saying that it’s not good. It is quite good. I just know that Ms Dalton is capable of some really really awesome stories.

I recommend this book for anyone wanting a great love story with some zany characters. Just make sure you have the patience to reach the end. I will admit that I am very glad I am reviewing Tymber Dalton’s book and not the book that Gwen is writing in the story. Ms. Dalton did take some hilarious liberties with that one.

Tymber Dalton always seems to suck me and get me good! I was looking for a hot MMF menage and boy did I find it!

I did find it amusing that the female MC is an erotica author who writes about menage! I wonder how much of her is Tymber herself? Hmmmm..... And the one of the male MC's is a book store owner who writes reviews for his blog! I LOVED it!

I loved this story. We had so many things going on that is stays interesting from beginning to end but not so many as to confuse the story or the reader.

The secondary characters added a nice touch to the story. They all things going on as well and they did affect the MC's. Because we all know, when it rains it pours. We never get just one problem at a time. They all come down at once on us! Same things for these guys.

I will admit I thought Jack was a jerk. Granted, his emotional baggage was harsher than the others and he needed to face his demons. But he was still a jerk! I loved the way Tim handled Jack. He kept right on loving Jack even though Jack needed his ass kicked!

Gwen was awesome. I loved watching her and her brother learn to finally stand up to their parents. That's hard. No matter how old you are, they are your parents. It's hard to stand up to them.

But, once again Tymber Dalton made me cry. I'm telling you, invest in Kleenex. At the rate I read her books, you'll make a fortune!

4.5 stars.

Stoneface is light on the kink and heavy on the story. There’s emotion galore, as well as interesting plot twists. The ménage dynamic – an established M/M couple with a female coming in as a third – was actually the first ménage I read with man on man action, HAWT. There are so many elements in this story to keep your attention, the sexy ménage (obviously), the adventure and mystery (of the missing sister), betrayal, holier-than-thou parents to drive the main characters insane, and a sweet love story. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to get lost in a story with some fun sexy thrown in.

4.5 out of 5. A compelling novel with the trademark angst and hurt that Dalton deals with so well. Just about every human emotion is expressed in some way in this story. It is one of the most up and down stories by this author I have read since "The Reluctant Dom." It is hard to imagine people going through the kinds of hurts these people encountered and have to make some life-changing and life-threatening decisions. Just a terrific read and one that continues to ensnare readers into the Tymber Dalton fan club. This writer has a scary sense about people and it shows in these stories. One of those books you just don't want to miss.

Another book by Tymber Dalton has reinforced my impression that this writer takes their craft seriously. A dysfunctional family with three adult children still being terrified to upset their parents. Gwen is a writer of erotic fiction, so she is already on her parents' target list. Her brother has MS and his health drove him back to his parents home for awhile, but he wants to come out about being gay, and only his sister will support him. The older sister is having an affair and gets pregnant. Of course, the rents lose it. Gwen meets one of her long time reviewers for the first time and sparks fly. Good story.

Another winner from Tymber Dalton. I know people like most of the main characters so I was quickly drawn into the story. She always has a way with capturing the essence of a character and make them seem so very familiar. Tim is absolutely adorable and reminds me of a good friend of mine. For Jack, I spent the majority of the book going back and forth between loving him and wanting to smack the hell out of him. Liam was the perfect big brother and I would love to see more about him possibly in his own book? (Hint, hint) This was a very quick read and I really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book. Of her ménage books, Safe Harbor had been my favorite but this one topped it. There was more character development in the novel and the plot was more present.

What I enjoy about Ms. Dalton's books are the deep emotional connection between her characters. She takes the time to have this people making real mistakes and giving them time to fix them. There's no "and then it's magically fixed" plot device.

A solid read.

An excellent, complicated book typical of Tymber Dalton. She is a must by for me. Strong main characters with equally strong secondary characters and all are important to the story. I would have given 5 stars except I personally had a bit of a problem with the ending relationship between Ruthie and Amy, both secondary characters. I would love to read Ruthie's book and one for Liam!

I lost sleep to read this! I made the mistake of picking it up at bedtime and didn't put it down until 2 am when I finsihed it. 4 hrs of marathon reading later I had laughed, cried a little, been mad a hell, and wanted to crawl out of my skin with "oh yum". As usual, Mrs. Dalton does not let you down!

While this one might not be one of my favorite Tymber Dalton books i still really enjoyed it. Loved the family dynamics between the main character and her brother.

3.5, the heart-warming tear-jerking moments just didn't come like they have in her other books. But still a good story.

Established male couple take in a woman third. Not without some hiccups which made it feel real and gave me characters I could cheer for.
