"This is not simply another book about terrorism". Unfortunately it is just that.
As an academic who has quite a background in nuclear and conventional military strategy I can only express my disappointment about this book. It is obviously geared towards newcomers to the discipline of security studies, but fails to present its argument or facts on any higher scientific basis. In fact, it reads more like a collection of mediocre sophomore essays. My Master's students did not enjoy it at all, and complained about the lack of depth and reflexion by the authors. I most certainly agree, and we had a great time ripping every bit of it apart in a seminar.
Don't be fooled by the appeal of the writers being connected to Georgetown; the sad matter of fact is they do not know much about the depths and twists of NBC warfare, security and deterrence. This book is simply too shallow to provide any more insight than a 5-minute Wikipedia article.
