The marketplace is replete with interviewing books and manuals; however, quickly locating information buried in thick manuscripts is costly and time-consuming. Joe Navarro is an author, public speaker and ex-FBI agent. Navarro specializes in the area of nonverbal communication or body language and has authored numerous books.
This is a relatively expensive book - around $50, but given that it’s a professional textbook, the price is understandable. I picked it up as an airport read out of curiosity, but it has unexpectedly rekindled my interest in professional textbooks, largely because of how refreshingly free of filler they are.
Although primarily intended for law enforcement, I believe it has significant value for civilians, particularly in learning techniques for rapport building, persuasion, and managing anger cycles.
Beyond that, it offers a range of verbal and non-verbal cues for detecting deception. While I wouldn’t put these techniques on a pedestal, they may serve as useful supplementary tools alongside hard objective evidence I assume.
