These were gorgeous, and also made me realize I need to work harder to keep up with my Spanish skills. Alarcón has a lovely, compact style with a consistent yearning that hearkens to Neruda and Lorca, but with his own distinct style. I love a good sad, weird sonnet, and the accompanying drawings in this edition were spooky and beautiful.
These are such beautiful longing love poems. I sort of didn't realize until I read the other reviews that they were separate poems though, I just read through the whole book as though it was one long poem and it works really well that way too. Also really fun to see the English and Spanish side by side, and how some lines sound better in one language or the other.
