I actually knew how it end because the manga took a while for the final book to release, and I found the series on a streaming service. So I binged watched it. I still read this on the off chance that this had anything extra.
It didn't have anything extra, but it was still really good. It was a perfect ending for a series like this. The weirdest bond and belief, but has a cherish meaning to them that makes it feel so strong and justified. Even if it makes no sense to anyone else.
I really did love this series, can only hope for more games like IB, Mad Father, etc to get a chance to retell their stories.

What the heck?? Sobbing on the floor, THE. WHOLE. BOOK. The color pages near the end?!?!? I'm deceased. Like I knew that ending was coming and yet, I still wasn't ready 😭

I’m not crying, you are.
This is a great series I really was here for Zack’s story and even though I cried and my heart hurts I am very happy I read this series and Zack is now in my top favorite characters.

Oh wow, my heart hurts so dang much!!! What a freakin roller coaster of emotions! I watched the anime YEARS ago, and I remember being quite fond of it. Well let me say that the manga did NOT disappoint hehe. It stuck true to the anime but also managed to provide more clarity and substance in my opinion. I knew how it would end, and yet I was way more emotional this time around.
Such complex characters, but ~oh~ how much I adore Ray and Zack. This manga really puts things into perspective and makes you wonder “what does it really mean to be human”? I am so glad to have gone on this journey with them, and I will continue to be a fan long after the end.

THIS. IS. PEAK.
I LOVE Ray and Zack so much. The plot, the characters, and everything about this story had me emotionally attached. Even though the ending was somewhat expected, it still broke me—I was sobbing, and I can’t even explain whyy. 😭 The whole thing was an emotional rollercoaster, and I loved every second of it.
What stood out to me most was how each character’s backstory was revealed. Once you learn where they came from, you start to understand just why and how deeply messed up they are. And it made me feel even more sympathy for Ray and Zack. Their relationship may seem weird somehow, but i think it’s beautiful in its own way. They’re such an unlikely pair, yet their bond is so genuine I can’t help but love them both.🫶
NOW, for those people saying Rachel hallucinated in the ending and that Zack never showed up… listen. Because I don't buy that. Some of you might be thinking, “Callie, your theory is so dumb. Why believe that?” Well,,,
1. Zack doesn’t break promises. No wayy. He and Ray swore something to each other, and Zack is not the type to just abandon that. Ain't no wayy.
2. The broken window scene makes sense only if Zack was really there. When the psychiatrists and staff barged into Rachel’s room, they saw: A smashed window, curtains blowing in the night wind. Blood on the stool near the window. Tons of glass shards inside the room, not outside.
And most importantly, the knife Zack gave Ray lying among the shards.
If Rachel had broken it herself, the glass would’ve fallen OUTSIDE. The shards being inside means someone from the outside (ahem… probably someone tall, bandaged, carrying a scythe and was sent to death row) smashed his way in.
3. The hole in the window is way too big for Rachel to have made. She had nothing but the knife, and her pieces of furniture were either in its normal place or blocking the door. She’s small and there’s no way she shoved some giant object through the elevated window. So that hole in the window is zack’s doing.
4. Death penalty ≠ dead yet. Zack was sentenced, sure, but he wasn’t executed yet. He broke out of there which explains how he ended up right outside Rachel’s window.
5. The police cars prove it wasn’t a hallucination. Hallucinations usually reflect what you want to see. But Rachel had already accepted Zack’s supposed death after her psychiatrist told her about it. She wouldn’t imagine him escaping jail, especially with police sirens blaring outside.
(Don't mind me guys, just let me be my delulu self.❤️)

I’m so upset this series is over… ik they are fictional characters but it warms my heart knowing they ended up finding peace like that. It was a beautiful story.

This is a very middle-of-the road series, and I want to make this quick because, well, I don't have much to say.
As far as story goes, it was pretty straight-forward until all the talk of God, and the dropping of hints for what I assume was enticing readers to the prequel series near the end. Isaac and Ray are characters I find particularly fun, and... cute? I wanna say cute.
Honestly I'm not sure what to say on the story because as far as stories go, it didn't have many characters or big plot points, just one continuous story. It makes sense, though, as this series is based off a video game, not written in arcs like a traditional manga tends to be. In that way, that might be why I was lost at some parts in terms of story or what was going on; because it's based off a video game, and was initially meant to be consumed as such.
I personally enjoyed delving into the backstories of some of the characters, and how the major themes of the plot were finding what one needs to be happy and going after it, selfishly or unselfishly (which is what I gathered by the end). I really wish Zack and Ray were a couple. Despite the art style being a little inconsistent for my taste, I liked how they were drawn no matter how different as the chapters went by.
Like I said, middle of the road. I won't be rereading this manga, and I'm going to actually resell the eight volumes I own. It was good enough I might play the video game, but not good enough to keep on my shelves, unfortunately.
And I went into this expecting a lot more hot serial killer romance than I eventually got, so maybe I'm just salty about that.

I say the game is still superior versus the anime and manga. The manga is good, don't get me wrong. I liked the extra background knowledge of the series too.

And thus we conclude...
Zach saves Rachel and in the end they save each other. While probably ultimately dying somewhere down the line by one another's hands.
