Michigan Haunts and Hauntings

Rate this book
Do you believe in ghosts? You will after reading this compilation of tales of the supernatural from Michigan's rich oral history! Some stories, such as the North American Indian legends and a few of the older accounts are from the author's personal folklore collection. Each was carefully researched from interviews with witnesses whenever possible. This permits many obscure and fascinating details in these tales of haunts and hauntings which in turn illuminate our local cultural heritage. Also contains a map of the haunted sites for readers who want to do a little research into Michigan's enthralling past on their own!

I really enjoyed this spooky book! This one is more folk tales and legends rather than paranormal investigations, which made it a little different from other ghost stories I have read. Some of the stories allegedly date back to when Indigenous groups lived in Michigan. It’s a fun way to learn about local history and think about different places to travel around the state. The map at the end with the locations of the stories is helpful. I think this book could have benefited from more pictures and perhaps a more spaced layout—and it didn’t help that I was reading a rather ratty old copy of this book—but the storytelling is solid. I would like to read more by this author—especially since she’s a green witch!

Great stories about things that go bump in the night in the state of Michigan. Another good book to spark spontaneous trips in the great state of Michigan. A great book for the ghost story lover and day traveler

I came across this book because it was mentioned in Weird Michigan, which I read last year. I really enjoy books like this. I like that I am somewhat familiar with the most of the areas. I like that I can get out my computer and google away. I looked at restaurants, hotels, maps, cemeteries. It was very enjoyable.

As far as hunted Michigan books go, this has been, by far, the best. Kuclo was a teacher and wrote for a number of papers in her day. She was also a practicing witch. The stories were well written and as a witch she was able to provide a different perspective for a lot of things. For instance, she suggests avoiding mediums if you want to do a seance. She also broke down hauntings by type and gave a good description at the beginning of each chapter about the kind of haunting. I really enjoyed this. It was good fun and made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck a couple of times!

Now I'm going to go look at some stuff about the ghost of Minnie Quay.
