About the author

David Suzuki is a Canadian science broadcaster and environmental activist. A long time activist to reverse global climate change, Suzuki co-founded the David Suzuki Foundation in 1990, to work "to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us." The Foundation's priorities are: oceans and sustainable fishing, climate change and clean energy, sustainability, and David Suzuki's Nature Challenge. He also served as a director of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association from 1982-1987.

গুডরিডের রেটিংকে বিশ্বাস করবেন না!!! বিশাল পরিসরে লেখার কারনে এই গুফরিডসেই দ্যা সেল নামের অতি বিদঘুটে বইতে ৫/৫রেটিং দিয়ে কিন্তু এই বেচারা ৩এর ঘরে পড়ে থাকে।

ইন্ডিয়ান লেখকেরা মোটামুটি সহজবোধ্য ভাবেই লিখেন কিন্তু এই কথাটা পশ্চিমা লেখকদের বেলায় খাটে না। ইওরোপ আমেরিকার বড় বড় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এর প্রফেসর হবার কারনে তারা বইয়ে অতি জ্ঞান ঝাড়তে যান ফলাফল সাধারন স্টুডেন্টেদের বাঁশ।

অল্প কিছু লেখক অতি সোজা ভাষায় যা বলতে চেয়েছেন সেটাই একেবারে বুঝাতে পারেন তাদের লেখায়। এই বইটা সেই বিরল প্রজাতির বই গুলার ভিতরে একটা।

বইটার প্রথম ভাল দিক হল প্রতিটা টপিকের শেষে একটা সামারি দেওয়া। বেশি না ২কি ৩ লাইনের সামারি তাতেই পুরো টপিকটা কি বলতে চেয়েছে বুঝে ফেলা যায়।
প্রতিটা ফিগারে ছোট খাট যে ডেসক্রিপশন আছে সেটাও সহজেই পরীক্ষার খাতায় লিখে আসার মত পানি ভাত টাইপ।

মাত্র ৩টা চ্যাপটার পড়া লাগছে সমগ্র বইয়ের কিন্তু তাতেই আমি ফিদা!! বইটার সাজানোর ধরন ,ভাষা, ছোট ছোট টপিকে একটা চ্যাপটার ভাগ করে নেওয়া সব কিছু দেখে মনে হইছে বইটা লিখছেই বিশেষ ভাবে ফাঁকিবাজ স্টুডেন্টের কথা চিন্তা করে।

This was the assigned textbook for my genetics class, albeit an earlier edition. As such, I didn't read all of it, just the parts germane to the class. Overall though I'd say the book didn't provide as much detail as the professor gave in lecture, so its use as a supplemental resource was limited.

I love biology! So I loved this book! It was extremely helpful and detailed! It gives you enough details for you to understand what is given to you for assignments and to study for exams!

How this book stands out is that it actually provides way more detail than most of the other textbooks of this era.

Honestly, you are better off reading this textbook cover to cover than taking a class.

UBC, Biol 334 + 335 - Basic Genetics, Molecular Genetics. Practically read through the whole book for these two courses. Able to do fairly well in both courses simply by reading through the textbook. Useful textbook.

This book provides a good introduction for some basic and applied concepts in genetics. Yet, you still need to ask your teacher to confirm what you have grasped from this book.

This is book is as comprehensive and thorough as a good introduction to genetics gets.

What the authors have accomplished (obviously after many editions) is very impressive. The book reads like a scientific saga, and I'm totally gobsmacked by the growth of the field since Mendel and the technological innovations made relatively recently in whole genome sequencing and next gen. sequencing. This book doesn't miss a thing. What's more, it does an excellent job at elucidating the thought processes that go behind the formation of good hypotheses by using real, groundbreaking experiments from the past 100 years that have propelled the field forward.

The writing is effective, the summaries at the end of each important paragraph are helpful, and the occasional delves into the mind of good scientist are invaluable.
