He’s determined to protect what’s his, and he’ll go to any lengths to do so… even if it means holding hostage the only woman he’s ever loved.
Carter Caldwell has spent the last few years picking up the pieces of his life after one fateful decision tore his world apart. He left a good education, and an even better woman, to chase revenge, and he reaped the consequences of his actions tenfold.
Helping his father run their Wyoming cattle empire gives him the necessary escape he needs, but it doesn’t allow him time for love. He has a business to keep afloat, and when complications arise with a new generation of calves, Carter knows he’s in desperate need of help.
Dr. Destiny Hart barely survived her life being torn apart by a man who promised not to, but she’s built a name for herself as an up-and-coming veterinarian. When she’s hired to help a prominent rancher save his herd, she’s elated to have this added to her dossier… until she finds herself face-to-face with Carter Caldwell—the man who disappeared without a trace ten years ago.
A Second Chance at Love…
Their reunion is filled with secrets, but as they battle their undeniable attraction, chaos breaks loose on the ranch.
Tanner, the younger Caldwell brother, has fallen in with the Mafia, and he’s been accused of killing the Boss’s son. Now the Mob is in Wyoming, ready to blow apart everything the Caldwells love––to find Tanner, dead or alive.
With Carter’s father injured, his missing brother suspected of murder, his herd in crisis, and the woman who still owns his heart wrapped up in his nightmare, Carter will do anything to keep them safe—including taking the law into his own hands. It’s not the first time he’s tapped into his ruthless side for someone he loves… and it won’t be the last.
Fans of Yellowstone and Sons of Anarchy will fall for a fresh spin on this second chance at love, billionaire cowboy romance, filled with loyalty and undying devotion to protect what’s sacred.
The first 30% of this book is heifers all giving birth at once. Destiny is so wishy washy the whole time about Carter. Then we have the Chicago mafia that randomly shows up looking for a brother…. Plus, there is this girl named Raven that is a cross between a hippie and a crazy patient ….. seriously random The one spicy scene doesn’t happen until you’re 80% into the book.
Since this is a series and it leaves you hanging at the end I have to read the next book, so I’ll know what happened.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. I really did not think this book was for me. I am not into westerns or cowboys. This is not that. This book starts off crazy and continues down that road until the very end. Carter Caldwell is the owner of Three Rivers Ranch. His dad Malcolm is not feeling well, and his brother Tanner is MIA. Their herd of cows was inconveniently bred at the same time leading to several hard births that could result in losing a large part of the herd.
Dr. Destiny Hart is a veterinarian called in to help with the emergency at the ranch. Destiny also happens to be Carter's ex-girlfriend. The girlfriend that he ghosted and had not heard from him in ten years. Destiny is a strong woman and though she loved Carter with her whole heart, she was able to move on and continue living. Carter knew the moment he saw Destiny again that he would not be able to let her go. Both have secrets that could bring them together and keep them apart.
On top of all of the relationship drama between these two, someone is looking for Carter's brother and is out for blood. Not your regular western/cowboy book at all. Readers' heads will spin with everything that is going on while rooting for Carter and Destiny to get a second chance. These two stubborn people have a lot of obstacles. First and foremost they have to overcome the danger that won't go away. Can Carter keep his family safe and get the girl? This book ends with a cliffhanger. I know I will be anxiously waiting for the next book in this series.
Ten years ago, Carter Caldwell made a decision that took him away from the woman he loved. He has been helping his father run the family's cattle empire, which little time for anything else. Dealing with the repercussions of yet anther his brother's actions, he has cattle dropping calves left and right. The vet that comes to help him is none other than the girl he left behind ten years ago, Destiny Hart.
Destiny barely survived when Carter ghosted back when she thought she was important to him. When a call comes in that a vet is needed at the Caldwell ranch, she is hoping it cannot be the same. But she is not so lucky, as it not long before she is standing face to face with the man who tore out her heart.
There is no stopping the chemistry that is still there but then there is nothing but chaos on the ranch. The person that seems to be the center of the crap that is coming is Carter' brother Tanner, the mob has come from Chicago and is after him and will take out any that stand in the way.
Both of them have secrets they are keeping form the other. Carter is determined to keep Destiny safe at the ranch, she fights him every step of the way. This ends on a cliffhanger, it is anyone's guess where it goes next.

Short summary: Mind the cliff. She notes from the outset that it will, and it does.
This book follows the story of Carter and Destiny. They were together ten years ago, but Carter left Destiny after his mom died, and they never got back in touch. Now circumstances force them back together. But the mafia is out looking for Carter's brother and is willing to hurt anybody to get to him. Carter wants Destiny back, but Destiny isn't sure she wants to go there again, especially with the secrets she's keeping from him. And Carter is worried that the mafia will go after Destiny to get to him.
General Thoughts: I have not read a dark cowboy romance before, and it's been too long since I've read a cowboy romance, period. This one is extremely fast-moving. A lot happens very quickly, and a lot is left unanswered by the time this book ends. I have a lot of questions! I'm not entirely sure if this is magical realism or realistic fiction yet for one (and the second book has only made me question that more.) I wouldn't say this one has "miscommunication trope" so much as "keeping secrets they don't need to and should just talk to each other," which I never love.
For this moving very quickly and being plot-driven, I thought the author did a great job crafting intriguing characters. This novel feels a bit like a set-up novel, but it was action-packed and moved quickly. There is a lot of suspense, and Sky has done a great job creating a very interesting world. I'm definitely excited to keep reading.
(Note: I started reading the second one immediately, and before I reviewed this, so far book two does not pick up where book one left off, and I'm not sure it will. Check my review for book two, but know you may be seeing that cliff for awhile.)
Steam Meter: ❤️🔥❤️🔥 Steamy and for over 18 but not the most frequent or detailed.
If you are a fan of romantic suspense, this is going to be right up your alley. This had all the makings of a sweet second chance romance…until about 20% in and then…tables turn!! This book is super exciting. Carter and Destiny have a very complicated history and while their paths have crossed again, it’s not so easy to reconnect. In the 10 years since Carter left her, Destiny has made her dreams come true but she also has a secret she’s trying to keep. Add in some family drama on Carter’s side that brings destruction and danger to the ranch and you have the makings of a perfect series starter. My heart is still racing from that ending and I’ll be on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book to come out.
Carter is a cowboy and lives on his families ranch, located near three rivers and it has a beautiful scenery.
The ranch has all the things you require to maintain a ranch this large, the farm help is loyal to the animals on the land and the Caldwell family.
Destiny is a doctor and loves her job she always wanted to be a vet to save animals and help to heal them. It was her dream at a young age and she's living her dream.
Then on a emergency call she meets the man she hasn't seen in ten years, she's not there to feed into her anger about him at least not right now, she has animals to save and focus on her job.
There's a lot going on the Caldwell ranch this book keeps you reading there’s Cowboys, animals vets, Mafia "Godfather style", and Crows oh and let's not forget about the asylum yes this is action pack full of edge of your seat wondering what could happen next.
One quote I loved and laughed so hard at was Atlas saying "Christ, if Rocco or Marcello saw me like this, I might have to kill them." Still makes me laugh I can just picture this scene lolololol
I hope there is a Raven and Atlas storyline in the future, I love their characters as much as Carter and Destiny
This is my first book by Sky Coppola and it didn’t disappoint. Buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love (ALL THINGS TO EXPECT FROM THE MAFIA WORLD). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter! CAN’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED!!!!! Carter sexy as all get out owner of Three River Ranch trying to handle everything his father is sick, brother is missing, losing a big chuck of his herd due to breading, birthing issues and needing a vet to help save his cattle. Dr. Destiny a veterinarian called out to an emergency but didn’t realize she was headed to her ex’s ranch, he just disappeared on her never reaching out in nearly ten years but she loves animals, goal is to save them so being the bigger women 😊 there to do a job or so she thought until she laid eyes on the man who ghosted her all the hurt, anger came rushing back for them both. But this time he isn’t allowing her to walk away but the secrets they both hold may be what keeps them apart. Yet the attraction is still just as intense as it was ten years ago and the magnetic pull is stronger now then it was then impossible to ignore but things go up by a thousand degrees when someone shows up looking for his brother and he will be damned if he loses another person, or animal so he knows what he needs to do protect what or who belongs to him and working to earn his girl’s trust but will he be able to do the job alone protecting his girl, taking care of his father, will he find his brother, what trouble has his brother gotten into, will she forgive him once she learns the truth, will he open up about why he really left, will she tell him how she feels, and will this wild adventure lead them to a second chance and happiness?.
A non-stop roller coaster, Savage Abandon takes readers on a wild ride from start to finish. The action never stops, be it emotional, physical, and at times, a bit mystical. Written in first-person perspective, the book is told from three different points of view: Carter, our Alpha hero with a shadowy past; Destiny, Carter’s ex and our successful, independent heroine who has a big secret of her own; and Atlas, our villain who is a bit of an evil sumbitch with an army of mafia minions at his command.
It’s worth noting that this book ends on one hell of a cliffhanger so if that’s not your style, do not pass go, do not collect 200$, do not read this book. However, if you can handle a bit of suspense and are able to juggle multiple perspectives, go for it!
Savage Abandon tries to weave several tropes together (mafia, cowboy/western, second chance romance) and for the most part succeeds. There are some side storylines and plot points that push things into OTT territory. A best friend going out of her way to make our heroine jealous when there are waaaay more serious things going on - an explosion, a potential murder accusation, and a crazy amount of cows giving birth damn near simultaneously - took me out of the moment and into “too much” territory. A side-storyline about a kidnap/torture victim is also as out of place as the protective BFF and while that had me scratching my head, though it kept me curious enough to keep reading.
That said, it was still an intriguing read. Soap opera-y (in a good way!), Savage Abandon is packed with emotion and adventure, suspense and spice, mystery and a little bit of mysticism to boot. Solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. And I’ll also be keeping my eye out for the next book in the series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Didn't enjoy this. I was expecting a cowboy/rancher HEA romance, instead this has a weird mafia element and it really didn't work for me, it seemed so random and things in the stiry were to OTT, like the mafia stuff and so many cows all giving birth all at once, and such an experiencd rancher who knew exactly when the bull got at the cows to impregnate them but doesn't make sure he has workers ready to help when they're due to calve. I kept thinking really?
But even without those issues this is too boring and basic, and all of it is extremely repetitive. Like the heroine's first scene, with her constant back and forth from the second she gets the phone call to go to the ranch, she's thinking should she go, yes cuz she needs to think about the heifers, she doesn't want to go, but she needs to think about the heifers, so she should go even though she doesn't want to go, but she needs to think about the heifers, and even her next scene is exactly this repeated.
And all her, is it him, is it not him, maybe it's him, maybe it's not him, it doesn't matter because she needs to think about the heifers, but maybe he's not at the ranch anyway, or maybe he's is but it doesn't matter because she needs to think about the heifers. All of that endlessly on repeat for far too many pages was extremely boring! It's just not enjoyable to read so much repetition. But again, even without the OTT and repetition issues the story, writing, dialogue and characters were all basic.
The cover was the only thing I liked i preferred the brown/yellow font of the title on book 3, I haven't read it, and have no interest in reading it, only saw it, and the text placement is better on it also. The text is off centre here and looks wrong. But I liked the dark reddish brown background, it matches the tan hide of cowboys/ranchers, which is fitting. Pity the writing and story are too OTT, basic, boring and extremely repetitive. Didn't enjoy this, and gave up without even finishing it.
Carter is trying to dig up some poison plants so the cows don't eat them. Then he hears a moan an sees his cow is trying to give birth but its her first calf and his dumb brother left the gate open and their biggest bull got to many of the young cows.As he finishes with the first he hears the next but then another goes down he must try an help as many as he can the wrangler are a day away with the other heard .Soon it seems time has flown by and he's weak an needs help. His pop has been sick but he doesn't have a choice he rides like the wind an tells his pop what's happening when his pop gets to jump up he falls an hits his head.Carter helps him back to his chair an says call anyone you can think of to help I've gotta get back.Destiny finally got her dream an became a vet.specializing in large animals. When Carter's dad calls an tells her the problem she says she will be there in an hour. She tells the vet she's working with what is happening and asks if he can handle the extra patients while she helps deliver a bunch of cows.Destiny kind of hopes he says no but he says he knows the ranch and the owner for years to go help them.As she's driving she calls her mom telling her she has to help deliver a bunch of calfs and maybe a few days before she gets back can she keep Storm ?As she's driving she hopes its not Carter's place she hates him but the truth is she still loves him even if he broke her heart ten years ago.there are so many twists an turns you will be riveted til the very last page.this story has it all, action, danger, second chances and so much more.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.
Wowza... never in my existence have I encountered country and mafia in one before (especially from OUTSIDE of the mafia). It's safe to say it's become my newest addiction.
I was hooked from start to finish but what really got me was how out of my element I was. Every time I thought I had it figured out, Sky would throw me a curveball and suck me in deeper. I've never been so intrigued by a plot line that makes so much sense but not at all at the same time. AND to top it off, it's a second chance romance. Say less!!
Carter is a loyal, passionate and very overprotective cowboy and Destiny is a sassy yet sweet veterinarian. They still have a lot more growing to do so I hope to see more character development in the next book. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the lack of open communication (i.e. not telling the whole truth) but I'm glad there's no OW/OM drama. There is still so much left unsaid between Carter and Destiny and since they're so stubborn I wasn't surprised at how this story ends. I was however bamboozled by the cliff hanger but it doesn't change the fact that I will be first in line for the next book. Also, still very confused about Atlas & Raven and I hope we get more answers than questions.
Overall, I highly recommend if you love romantic suspense mixed with an overprotective cowboy, a second chance at love AND twists and turns that have you guessing with each word on the page. I'm extremely honoured to have received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving this honest review <3
Where to even start, Carter Caldwell lives on his family’s cattle farm. He didn’t expect to be there, but he was, it is just the way things worked out. After his mom passed, he was in a dark place, he gave up on everything. Including the love of his life Destiny Hart.
Carter’s younger brother brings trouble to the ranch by the name of Alex, he is looking for Tanner and he will stop at nothing to find him. But he has messed with the wrong family this time. He will be faced with the force of the entire family because Caldwell’s don’t run.
He never thought that when he needed help the one person he has never been about to let go of, would be the one who would show up. She hoped when she heard the last name Caldwell that it was a total coincidence and there was no way that it could be the same one. Past love has a way of sneaking up on you, especially when there is a secret that can destroy it all, will they let that door open again and let that love they had 10 years ago sneak back in?
I really enjoyed this book, the characters were amazing, and well written. It was easy to read and follow the story. No jumping around from one place to the next, it just flowed chapter after chapter.

I do not know why I never picked Sky Coppola's books before. It might be the advertised Dark Romance. But hey a lady can change her mind doesn't she???
Go get this book. It is at least 4 stories in 1 book (starter of the new series) but like the red twine mentioned it connects.. In the beginning my mind was going from where the H… goes the story-line but then I found it. At least 4 stories each with a history that will be explained in the coming books. It ends with a cliff-hanger but that only made me hungry for more. I want to follow the red twine!
As usual I do not tell much about the story itself but how I felt reading it and I find that is the most clean way to talk about the book. I will say it is a second chance story that is the base of the book/ series and Carter has to work for it!
It does have trigger warnings that are based on the series of the books and the book is dedicated to those of us who love our heroes a little villainous!!
I received an ARC from Booksirens and I leave this review because I liked it!
First off, this book ends in a major cliffhanger. If that is not your thing, this is not your book until another is released!
This book had it all with a second chance romance between Destiny and Carter, our two main characters. Destiny took it hard prior when Carter chose the family cattle business before and couldn’t believe she ran into him again. This is where we add in the western/cowboy genre with being out on the cattle ranch and handling those type of things. But wait there’s more! Then we have the mafia coming in for some familial turmoil in Carter’s life. There is not a dull moment in this book.
However, I did feel overwhelmed at times with so much crossing and wanted some downtime to help recenter. The characters are well written and have nice depth and development. You definitely can get attached to them as you read!
Overall, I feel like this would be a good book for someone who likes a lot of twist and turns in their books with that hard to fight for second chance romance.

You absolutely have to read this book! Sky Coppola delivers in a big way—Savage Abandon is hands down the best book I’ve read this year!
Filled with action, adventure, suspense, drama, emotion, mystery, intrigue, love, and so much more. The lead female character is bold, brave, brilliant, and beautifully written. The male lead is stunning, stubborn, strong, sexy, and smitten with his lost love.
The supporting characters and world building add complexity and complement each other and the story so well, you are drawn in from page one all the way to the end of the book. I could not put my Kindle down—and you won’t be able to either!
Love, love, love this story—if I could give it 6 stars I would! I cannot wait to see how this series unfolds.

Destiny Hart and Carter Caldwell dated in college, totally inseparable... until he ghosted her. She hasn't seen him in ten years, but when the Caldwell Ranch calls for urgent help with their cattle, as a veterinarian she can't say no. Carter is totally frustrated that his brother's latest mistake has put his livestock in jeapordy but little does he know that worse is coming. There are reasons he left the love of his life ten years ago, but now that she's back in his life he can't let go. Especially when mafia gangsters targeting his brother come to the ranch. Keeping her against her will may be the only way to keep her safe! This book is a wild ride full of angst, action, and drama. I can't wait to read the next book after that crazy cliffhanger!! I highly recommend this book! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Savage Abandon was my first book by Sky Coppola, and it was fantastic! Freaking amazing! I love cowboy romances and my favorite trope is mafia, so I was excited for this and also wasn’t sure what to expect or think about combining the two. But Sky did it so well, it keeps you invested right to the end. I loved Destiny and Carter, she was stubborn, strong and smart, but both are holding secrets from their past- one where he ghosted her with no explanation. But now she’s back in his life and he’s not letting her go again. There’s so much happening in this book, but not in a bad way. There’s the mystery surrounding Carters brother’s disappearance, his dads health, and the loss of his live stock. All the danger, mystery, suspense and twists will keep you on the edge of your seat! I can’t wait for the conclusion in book 2!! I definitely recommend this book.
Carter and Destiny were more than lovers in college: until he disappeared and she didn’t see him again for 10 years. Sky has written a story about two strong individuals who struggled with the separation, fulfilled many of their goals, and still have an intense connection to each other. The setting is awesome, the details and descriptions are vivid, and the supporting characters add depth to this complex story.
There’s danger, action, drama, and mystery in this cliffhanger. Dialogue that ranges from honesty to scary with a little quirky spooky. Sexy steamy scenes that are frustratingly short and unsatisfying until they work through some of the trust and communication issues. Carter wants Destiny forever but there’s a multitude of complications. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Savage Abandon was a fast paced action packed journey of intrigue and danger with a truly unique take on a second chance romance with plenty of conflict between the cowboys and mafia each willing to do what it takes to get the desired outcome there is plenty of twist and turns with just the right amount of heat between Carter and Destiny as the both have secrets that will change the coarse of their futures if the can overcome all the obstacles placed in their path and forgive one another's deceitful actions they might have a chance of becoming a family finally. And let's not forget that Carters brother is still missing and the book ends on a cliffhanger. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
You will be gripping the edge of your chair as you read this exciting read. When Carter Caldwell and Destiny Hart reconnect a decade after he ghosted her. He refuses to tell her why, and she has a secret too. She accidentally got called as a veterinary to the Caldwell Ranch for some calving problems while there some guys from Chicago came looking for Carter's brother, Tanner that no one had seen or heard from in months. They have no clue where he may be, but these guys declare war on the Caldwell's. Thinking the someone will eventually give Tanner up or he will give himself up. Ends with one heck of a cliffhanger.

This book will take you on a roller coaster of a ride. It takes the wild west life style of taking care of your business and helping your neighbor, puts it in today’s world. Sky Coppola does a wonderful job of blending cowboy mafia and billionaire all together. In the second chance forced proximity romance. Carter walks out of Destinys life back in college because he made in the states she didn’t know about. destiny is so hurt she keep some very big secrets from Carter over the years. Neither have really moved on. Than one day Destiny gets a phone call for help that changes her life once Carter sees destiny again he knows he cannot let her go once again but when trouble comes calling can Carter, keep Destiny safe and out of it or will he lose her again because of it?
A debut author with a lot of promise, Savage Abandon was engaging and an overall fun read. I was able to tear through the first third of the book pretty quickly but got a little lost after that. There are three different POVs, including the main villain, which got to be a bit confusing. When I finished I figured this was a duet but turns out there's three more books in the series, which may mean the sub plots (hello Raven?) get fleshed out more, but there was a lot going on in book one that left my head spinning a bit. This book did keep my interest for the most part, but I definitely could have used a little less back and forth on the storyline.

Cowboys and Mafia don't usually go hand in hand but with this series it does. Carter & Destiny were college sweethearts and when Carter's mum passed he left and never returned. Ten years later Destiny is a vet and is called to Carter's ranch to help deliver some calves.
Carter's brother Tanner left the family ranch a long time ago and he has got himself into trouble with the Mafia so when the Mafia come to the ranch liking for Tanner and no one can say where he is, well let's just say the Mafia start attacking the ranch and Carter's family.
This was an enjoyable read that ended on a cliffy and cannot wait to pick the next book up to continue this journey.
Wow, this book had me so enthralled from beginning to the heart stopping cliffhanger end!!! I hate cliffhangers especially when I’m not aware it is going to end Iike that! Carter and Destiny were college lovers and planned for a future until Carter left and never returned. Now, 10 yrs later, their paths cross again and the heartache, pain, betrayal, and secrets may just keep them apart forever. Then the mafia arrives and destroys Carter’s home and more threats if they don’t get his brother Tanner turned over to them. Exciting and captivating read, I just hope we don’t have to wait 6 months for the next book.

This is a new author for me which I enjoyed reading. I look forward to seeing what is next for this author in the future. This is the first book in this series and can't wait for the next one. I found this book to be well written and full of steamy romance. A second chance romance story and a devotion to protect what is yours that is hard to put down. A fast paced story that kept me engaged to the end. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their world with ease and kept me there. There is great growth and chemistry is strong throughout the story. I really enjoyed reading this story and I highly recommend it.
Carter is a cowboy who lives on his family's ranch. Years ago he made a decision tore his world apart. He left the woman he loved, to run after revenge. Paying for the consequences of his actions. Having returned home and seeing that his cattle need help, he calls for a vet. Destiny is a veterinarian, while on a emergency call, she’s hired to help a prominent rancher to save his herd. All is going good until she finds herself face-to-face with Carter the man who disappeared without a trace ten years ago.
It ends on a cliffy so looking forward to the next one.
