This program will help you enjoy each other more, make mutually satisfying decisions, reduce tensions, resolve differences, and increase intimacy, as you share your lives together.
There were some good points in this book, but sadly, the author seemed much more interested in having people try out his "awareness wheel" than actually solving their problems.
This was another required reading for my HDFS 2400: Marriage and Family Relationships Class. It was good, had some good principles and things to apply. Nothing crazy.
"When it comes to listening, you have two questions to consider: Am I leading (trying to take charge), or am I following the other person's lead? Am I listening for agreement/disagreement, or am I listening for understanding?" (pg. 92)
"A big difference exists between partners who can listen to each other for understanding and a couple who cannot. The latter are stuck listening only for agreement or disagreement." (pg. 104)
I thought this a great workbook on communicating and problem solving with others. It's also good for an individual's effort and understanding their own thoughts. It was part of my Marriage Enhancement BYU Class and I found this text worthwhile. This is a good book for single people as they try to improve communication skills for any relationship whether it's in the workplace or marriage, for newlyweds and for old-timers, like me, who've been married 31 years. I wish I had read this book 30 years ago--that says a lot. :)
I really enjoyed this workbook. My husband and I read and worked through it together as part of a class I am taking. Even he had to admit that it helped us communicate better.
