As with a many books of this type, TOME OF BEASTS contains a collection of fearsome (or wacky) creatures to challenge D&D players. Many are about what you'd find in similar collections, but what Kobold Press does well is horror (including Lovecraftian beings), Norse mythology, and Faerie. Some of the creatures' descriptions include sidebars specific to the Midgard and Southlands campaign settings. For GMs seeking a quick reference, the creators did a good job in including multiple indexes at the end of the book - alphabetically, by type, by challenge rating, and by terrain. 3 stars.
