Featuring over 2000 colour photographs to show Europe at its best, this guide includes: street-by-street maps; cutaways and floorplans of public buildings and landmarks; and a survival guide.
I obviously won't be discussing the literary merit of this book. Did I read it cover to cover? Of course not, it's a travel guide, so I only read the parts of specific interest to me. It contained some good information, and a few things were omitted which I picked up from other sources while traveling. All in all, the book does what it sets out to do and it has some handy maps as well.
The only problem I had here was that I found it easier to get a fold-out map at each hotel we stayed at and lug that around all day... the book gets heavy after a few hours. It works fine for reading at the hotel / in the train / in the bus / on the plane etc.
So many places to explore and not enough time and money to do them all. I love the maps and colorful details. I can't believe this book was published 21 years ago. I am sure the historical sites are still accurate to an extent, but I am sure the last few years have not been friendly to the restaurants and hotels that are featured.
An overall good basic guide but as someone who is European and has friends in other countries dont trust the guidance in this book and most of the food/accommodation recommendations are ridiculously expensive, handy for tourist ideas and history and it was a fun read but please Google if anyone is reading this!!
