When Zach McKnight, an irresistible oil rig worker with a thick-as-honey Texan drawl, first pokes into the secrets surrounding the mysterious Maddie Wells, he has no idea that the chance encounter will change his life forever. Maddie Wells is on the run with Jesse, the infant son of her murdered sister. The boy’s father isn't far behind. He wants his son and is willing to kill to get him. Zach is intrigued from the first moment he sees the dark haired beauty in a hotel, but getting his hard working hands on her delectable body is more easily dreamt than achieved. He gets shot for his trouble, by Maddie no less, and sucked into the web of lies and fear that are her constant companions.
Suzie Quint has always been fascinated with the human psyche, so she can imagine no better way to explore the human condition than through the characters she writes. Finding the happy ending for the people who inhabit her worlds is the best job anyone could have. Getting to share them with others… It doesn't get any better than that.
Let me just say that this book was just not for me! Sorry but I didn't like the heroine Maddie. But the biggest problem I had with this book. The thing that ruined it for me was that I felt like poor Zach was second place to Maddie's dead boyfriend Vince. OMG it bothered me so bad. I have friends that don't like reading books with dead exs at all, because they feel like the new love interest is second place always. Because if that person wasn't dead the new one wouldn't have a shot with them in the first place. I have never been like that. I don't mind books with dead exs as long as the the new love is just as special and loved. To me I love when a widow finds love again and life goes on. Just because I am okay with dead exs doesn't mean I want to read a book where I believe the hero or heroine loves that dead ex more. I don't like second place either.
This book was so bad about it that I really don't buy Maddie's love for Zach and I don't blame Zach for his doubt either. For one it put a knot in my stomach that she thought about Vince all the time. I do mean ALL THE TIME! He was dead but he was like a main character with a staring role. She really was having a love triangle with Zach and Vince's ghost and the ghost was winning for like 90% of the book. Hell she didn't even tell Zach she loved him until the last page and then she told him while still comparing him to Vince. She said
"I loved him a lot." She kept her gaze firmly on the diamond. "Almost as much as I love you."-Maddie
She talked about Vince all the time. Cried for him. Smelled his shirt. Thought about pretending Zach was Vince when she was going to sleep with him as a one night stand. And she only picked Zach as that one night stand because he sounded like Vince. Then when she does sleep with him for the first time she calls out Vince's name when they are having sex. He misunderstands her and thinks she said hints but she said Vince. Gross!
Of course he figures it out and it rips his heart out. She dreams about him and she tells Zach that she will always love him. I mean Damn poor Zach. Zach was sweet talkin' sexy as hell cowboy and I felt he deserved better. It just truly ruined it for me because there is nothing beautiful about never being good enough. I want a romance to make me swoon not make me wish the hero would break up the heroine and find someone better! Just sayin'.
Witty, sexy and just an all round great read. I love it when a book can make me laugh and giggle and this book did it for me. It also has a great storyline, wonderful characters, whom I feel in love with. Loved it!
Okay -- I didn't finish this and don't think I will. It just didn't make sense. I do like a west TX accent on a hunky cowboy, but, this does not mean I condone bad grammer. That is just stupid and I do not tolerate stupidity.
Okay, now lets talk about Lubbock, TX. Any idea how far Lubbock, TX is from the coast of TX? To say you work offshore, but are based in Lubbock ... maybe, but think you could be a bit closer to the coast - or, hell of an expense for the company paying you to travel. Whole lot of TX boys who live closer...
Okay, now you meet someone, and and hour later you take the to your room to try to "get lucky". Decide you will woo the lady by dancing to Josh Turner [yuck]. And, then she shoots you ... and your not mad but concerned for the honey because, you've been shot before! Ugh!!
Maybe other people can read this tripe, but I just couldn't get past the first 4 or 5 chapters. I didn't see how the author could pull this out, and frankly, life is too short and there are too many really good books out there to try to give this one more of my time....
Loved it, loved it, loved it! Where the heck did Suzie Quint come from?? And can I please put her in my pocket so I can keep her with me always?? Okay maybe that's a little too weird but holy crap did I enjoy this book!
If there's one thing all my beloved GR friends may find interesting about me it's that over the past 18 months I've become somewhat of a starstruck country fan. Anything country related and I'm all over it. I think it started with Lorelei James' Rough Riders series that eventuated in me stalking the sports channels for PBR highlights, downloading country tunes and even attending my first ever rodeo. I've got fricken country stars in my eyes. Needless to say that any books with cowboys and/or country settings are gonna get my motor running. Well-written books with cowboys and/or country settings are even better. This was one of them.
As per the blurb, Maddie is on the run (with her sister's 6 month old baby) from her sister's ex-boyfriend who happens to be a psychotic murderer. Maddie meets Zach and they are drawn to each other in one of those amazing-fate-driven scenarios in which the reader knows what's really going on but the H/h don't know yet.
I almost died and went to country heaven in the first few chapters when Zach (Zachariah... swoon!), decides to take Maddie dancin' whilst listening to dreamy country singer Josh Turner (omggggg hyperventilating). When Maddie referred to them playing Josh's song Your Man, I was a gasping fangirl mess!
I loved Maddie. I loved Zach even more. I loved the McKnight clan and can't wait to read all of their delicious stories. There was a little bit of secrecy in this gem (which I usually can't stand) but there was good reason for it. It started off being a method for Maddie to protect herself and her nephew but that grew to also include protecting Zach because Maddie didn't want to endanger him. The truth came out at the right time though and I'm glad that Maddie swallowed her pride a little and allowed things to progress how they did.
Zach was an absolute dreamboat and if I wasn't married I'd be saving my pennies to fly across the Pacific to find myself an East Texas cowboy. Not even joking.
After reading the initial setup of A Knight In Cowboy Boots I was expecting yet another sex filled, superficial romp. Maddie is on the run from a killer, with her deceased sister’s baby in tow, and needs to burn off some steam. She meets Zach in a bar. He’s been out on an oil rig for months, has an enormous ding dong and he’s burning to put it to good use. Not that there’s anything at all wrong with that! But things don’t go exactly as they plan, a comedy of errors occurs, and that’s when I was hooked. What follows is a sexy and solid romance with great characterization, some emotional scenes that moved me and just enough action to keep things interesting while never forgetting this is a love story.
I’m not going to go into minute detail here because this is a shorter romance. Basically Maddie has landed in Texas with the baby, a new identity and is lonely and grieving when she comes across Zach, all tall, dark and hunky. They flirt but what she really wants is to hear his drawl which reminds her of her lost love. But then Zack boldly brushes his lips against hers and says:
“My daddy says sometimes it’s better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.”
She’s smitten and overwhelmed by him and honestly so was I. He was so damn charming and warm from beginning to end. He comes from a large close-knit family and though they aren’t all romance novel perfect (thank you author, for that), they behave like a real family and you can feel the love even when they’re cussing each other out. Their presence adds to the warmth and tension in the book and I came to care about quite a few of them, instead of being irritated by the intrusion of too many secondary characters (which is what usually happen because I’m impatient and bore easily).
The suspense plot does require a smidge of suspension of disbelieve and you’ll need to be able to forgive a bit of meddlesome snooping by Zach but I really enjoyed both of these characters and the way they interacted with each other. Their sexual connection was intense but there was so much more here. He has a terrific sense of humor and a terribly romantic side and she’s got so much baggage and is so desperate to do the right thing that you just want to hug her.
A Knight In Cowboy Boots is a sexy-sweet read with big hearted characters I cared about. It was definitely worth my time and is easy to recommend.
Everything is bigger in Texas, even the cockroaches.
Hooked from the first chapter, I could not put the book down. I kept wondering what Maddie was afraid of and why she and her nephew, Jesse, were on the run. I always love to get my hands on a book like this one that is full of mystery and suspense. There is nothing like sitting on the edge of your seat eager to find out what will be revealed on the next page. This book did a beautiful job in keeping the action going and the suspense high.
When Maddie meets Zachariah, Zach for short, at a hotel bar in Galveston, she agrees to follow him to his room where things get hot and heavy fast. It was sweet and funny watching the electricity spark between the two, then die quickly after she overhears a phone call and thinks he is married Later, she ends up accidently shooting him when his sister knocks on his hotel door.
Zach soon realizes that Maddie is scared of something or someone and I found that angle only added to the mystery and was very entertaining. More so when Zach has his sisters and brothers check into her past and then lets his imagination run wild when he learns she is not who she says she is. The more time he spends with her, the harder he falls but fears that she will run if he starts asking questions.
I think every girl needs a knight in cowboy boots like Zach, a man who knows how to treat a lady; one that has a mama who can put the fear of God in all her kids no matter how old they get. Definitely a delicious tale with heat, humor, and devilish excitement to keep you enthralled until the end. Ms. Quint's did a brilliant job in bringing the characters to life and keeping this reader’s attention all the way through the story.
I couldn’t resist this book because, during college, I spent several summers in Texas. Those Texas boys are smokin’. I wasn’t disappointed by Zach. He delivers as a handsome, intelligent, heart of gold, southern man. Maddie is also instantly relatable as the heroine who is trying to protect her family.
What I didn’t expect from this book was the humor. Based on the blurb and the first chapter, it sounded like it would be a suspenseful, edge of your seat novel, but it was also character driven( I loved seeing Maddie open up to Zach and begin to trust him) and just plain funny—especially Zach. Suzie Quint has a knack for hysterical dialog. There was one point where my husband grabbed my kindle to see why I was laughing so hard.
Last, but not least, the loves scenes raised my temperature ten degrees, and there were a lot of them. If you’re thinking about buying this book, don’t hesitate. It’s a great read.
A Knight in Cowboy Boots is a beautiful mixture of adventure, romance, suspense, and humor. The characters jump off the page with a realism that sucks the reader in and carries you through to the end. Ms. Quint paints an accurate picture of life in Texas and the bullriding rodeo events. I loved the McKnight family and cannot wait to read more about them, particularly the stories of Sol, Jake, and Rachel. Well written and a fun read with something for everyone.
Where do I start? This book was kinda okay at the beginning. I mean, a man got shot and he just kinda shrugged it off (as he should). Every moment after was either boring or pure torture. There was no romance between the main couple, they just make-out and have sex 10 pages in for no reason other than his "sexy Southern drawl." Also, the love interest is not only misogynistic throughout, but he is also a literal rapist. There was no plot, no stakes, just cringy sex scenes where this trash bin of human being fantasizes about impregnating the main character. Also, the main character doesn't even love him by the end more than her dead ex-boyfriend. Where was the flavor? Where was the chemistry? I could go on about how the writing was mediocre and how there obviously wasn't an editor (or at least a good one), but I'd feel like a bully. But honestly, I don't care because this book caused me an amount of pain that I will never forget.
I will start out by saying that I really, really liked this book. I love discovering a new author who knows how to write a good story. Suzie Quint definitely knows how to write a good story, if this is anything to go by.
In a nutshell, Maddie takes off with her nephew (Jesse) after a tragedy involving her sister and Maddie's boyfriend. Keeping Jesse away from his father is literally a matter of life and death. She ends up in Galveston, TX, meets Zach and gets a bartending job. I totally loved Zach. There is something about a man playing protector and Zach definitely wanted to protect Maddie, even when he didn't know what he was protecting her from. From a "southern girl" it's good to see characters like that in books. There is nothing sexier (to me) than a man who knows his woman is strong and can take care of herself... but he wants to be her protector anyway. Without being arrogant. The story never got boring. You fall in love with Zach's family.... all of 'em.... and there are a bunch. I did have a problem with Rachel, however. There is a difference between being protective and being a bitch. She fell in the latter category.
The story flowed well. Everything was brought together in a good way. There were a couple of surprises thrown in. I loved that.
So, if I loved the book so much (and I definitely DID) why only 4 stars?
Okay, here is my problem with the book. If anyone has read any of my reviews about books set in the south, they know what's coming.
I live in the south (Alabama) and I have a major problem with an author using "southern speak" in books. It makes us come across as stupid and uneducated. We do not all speak that way, believe it or not. Yes, there may be a "y'all" on occasion and I'm told some of us have strong accents, but some of the lines I read were simply so far from anything I have ever heard and I live in the deep south. This did not take away from the story. And I'm sure it probably went unnoticed by most. But it's one of my pet peeves.
I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I am hoping that the author writes a book for every member of the family. Especially Rachel. Her story is the one I want to read most, I think.
One question that I don't know if it was answered in the book. How old was Zach supposed to be? With the talk of his strict mother, I wondered throughout the book how old a lot of the characters were. Only the younger ones ages were mentioned, if I am recalling correctly.
The author does a good job of combining romance and suspense in this story. Maddie is a very sympathetic character and quite courageous in her efforts to save her nephew. Zach is very protective of her from the very beginning, and the reader will fall in love with him just as quickly as Maddie did. Zach’s large family adds quite a bit of color to the story right up to the exciting and explosive climax.
This was a great read! Loved Suzie's voice and the way she delivered on tension, sizzle, and fun while introducing a cast of characters I can't wait to get to know better. Lovely writing, and a story I couldn't put down. :-)
She looses her sister and has to raise her nephew. But the only thing of that is her sister was killed and now she has to go on the run. She goes to this little town in Texas and meets this hot cowboy. Gotta love those cowboys. She has to lie to him about herself since the killer is looking for her. What happens to their relationship when her nightmare catches up with her and he finds out the truth? This is exciting, suspenseful, emotional, funny and so much more. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Nobody loves cowboy romances more than this gal, and this story has everything - absolutely everything - that I love in a book!
Hot alpha cowboy with a heart of gold? Check Feisty damsel-in-distress who's determined to save herself? Check Hot and steamy, panty-melting-sheet-clenching love scenes? Check Murderous villain who more than deserves whatever he's got coming? Check Family values overflowing every page, every scene, every character? Check A twist that'll have you gasping in surprise? Check Plenty of hot cowboys, bulls, rodeos, yes ma'ams and no sirs? Check! A life-changing love story that's as inevitable as it is impossible? Check and double-check!
It's been quite a while since I've read a book that has so completely captivated me. From the opening lines and the hilarious first encounter (yes, she really does shoot him), through all the exquisitely heart-warming, heart-pounding, and heart-stopping moments that follow, this book was a book to savor, a book that had me laughing, gasping, and even shouting at my kindle.
The twist was beautifully foreshadowed - such a surprise when it was revealed, but when I went back to check (because I do that sort of thing) all the clues were there and everything fit perfectly. I loved how the author built up the suspense by revealing it to the reader before it was revealed to the characters.
The edge-of-my-seat suspense at the end was brilliantly done, too. Every plan seemed to indicate exactly how things would go, so of course nothing goes according to plan. The HEA at the end is so beautiful I almost cried. Yes, she's in love with two men, but it's OK - really OK in the best of ways. (No, this isn't a menage - it's learning to love again after the love of your life has died.)
The writing is absolutely fabulous. The Texas dialogue was perfect, the emotions rang true, the characters were fully-developed and instantly likable, and the plot moved along perfectly without a single wasted word. This was my first book by this author, and she's already in my all-time Top Ten list. I'm off to read everything else by her that I can get my grabby little hands on.

"Maddie had no idea how many laws she'd broken in the last week. They all paled next to kidnapping. Since she'd been advised not to leave the state, she was pretty sure having temporary custody wouldn't get her anywhere in court. Not that it mattered. She'd never get to court. She'd die before she gave Jesse up."
Maddie and her baby nephew, Jesse, are on the run from his father and the man who murdered her sister and her boyfriend. She heads to her boyfriend's home in Galveston only to run into a charming cowboy named Zach who she shoots over a misunderstanding. To Maddie's joy and distress, the attraction is instant and the passion is hot and heavy, but the murderer could find her any time and, unfortunately, she has to leave Zach and this town soon.
"People were killed every day because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Zach has fallen head over heels for Maddie and her nephew, but is she "one of the damaged strays" that his sister says he likes to rescue? He can protect her from the dangers that she fears, but how can he get her to stay with him?
I became a fan of Suzie Quint this year after reading Liar, Liar: The Omnibus which was a very fun and entertaining romantic mystery. So when I found out she had written a sexy cowboy romance series, I had to give the first one a try and it didn't disappoint. It is enjoyable to see Zach gradually melt Maddie's defenses to the point where she wants to protect him as much as he wants to protect her. Of course, one cannot forget the delightful McKnight clan who I'm sure will appear in #2 of the series. If you like romance series with hot, sexy, heart-melting cowboys, delicious innuendos and quips, and a mystery thrown in, check this one out.

A Knight In Cowboy Boots by Suzie Quint is a 5 star read. Maddie Grey is on the run with her nephew after the murder of her sister, Maddie’s boyfriend, Vince was also murdered after being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Heading to Galveston, Texas, Maddie just wants to feel close to Vince again as this is where he spent some time. Trying to hide from the murderer who is her nephews father, Maddie doesn’t want to form any attachments as she might need to run again but there something about Zach that makes her want to believe she’s safe. Zach McKnight has just spent 6 months on an oil rig and now he’s spending some time in Galveston before heading home to his family’s ranch, while sitting in the bar he sees Maddie and invites her to his room, after an annoying phone call from his sister things start to go down hill. Zach knows he want to spend time with Maddie but a lot of what she says doesn’t add up so he quietly start to investigate who she is not reading the real danger she in. I loved this story and can’t wait to read about the rest of Zach’s brothers. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this book.
I did enjoy this story but it does have a few small issues, the characters are easy to like. The author does pull you in from the first page. Maggie is way to easy to fall into bed with men, it seems it is always the men who say no. I did like her past history with Vince, there is passion, romance, hot sex, danger, lust and so much more. Maddie is on the run for not only her life but her nephew’s as well. The boys father is dangerous and has killed before. No one knows that better than Maddie. Packing up and moving to her one true loves home land she meets one man she can’t say no to. With her sister’s ex on her trail she must keeping moving only Zach isn’t making that easy.
I thought the author put a lost of thought into writing this story. Maddie comes across as a trash person which really isn’t the case. I really liked her character just not the way the author made her sound like trailer trash. Zach and his whole family I fell in love with. I loved the humor and even laughed a few times. The ending was wild and dangerous, loved it. I am going to give this a 3.5 star because I really loved the plot but Maddie trashy ways really took a way from it.
Drawn to the drawl and finding safety in her Cowboy’s arms A Knight In Cowboy Boots (McKnight Romance Saga Book 1) by Suzie Quint is an exciting cowboy romance that will pull your heartstrings, steal your breath and hold you captive. Maddie and Zach’s romance is ripe with steamy scenes even as you are holding your breath anxiously awaiting what’s coming next. These characters build a solid start to this series that is sure to be full of spitfire and sweet talking East Texas Cowboys! I heard Zach‘s drawl throughout and it is full of charm, sweet and flirting with naughty more often than not! The suspense and impending danger keeps this book a compelling page turner. I was equally intrigued by the appearance of the antagonist while also dreading it for the sake of Maddie and baby Jesse. Overall, I love Zach and Maddie together, getting their HEA and I cannot wait to see what this author has in store for the rest of the McKnight clan. The series/saga is sure to be just as sexy-sweet and suspenseful to reel the reader in and refuse to let go. Bring it on Cowboys! I read an ARC of this book via Hidden Gems and voluntarily share my review.
All Zach was looking for was a good time on his first night off of the oil rig. But what he got was a bullet through his arm. Now the only thing he can think of is the next time he can see gun toting, Maddie. After his first encounter with her, she's all he can think about . But he knows that she's keeping secrets and that she's on the run. He already found about one of her secrets. Will he be able to convince her to tell him everything?
Maddie was only looking for a job when she meets Zach. He sweeps her off her feet. Maddie has far too many secrets to prevent her from getting involved with anyone. But will she let her guard down enough to let Zach in?
This is my first time reading anything by this author and I loved it. I could not put the book down once I started it. I loved the way the story just flowed so smoothly. And the way the truth about everything that she was hiding just came out so perfectly. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. I recommend this book to others.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley.

This story caught my attention from the beginning and kept it until the end. Zach is such a sexy cowboy who captures Maddie’s interest and as their first meeting starts to get very steamy a misunderstanding and unfortunate reaction ends up with Zach shot. He tells her they’ll laugh about it in the future when they tell kids how they first met.
This story has some suspense, sexy cowboys, a sweet baby and a huge family that is protective and welcoming. I really enjoyed reading about Zach and Maddie’s wildly intense relationship progressed. Even though they had a strong physical reaction to each other, they also connected emotionally. Zach realizes Maddie isn’t who she says she is and he does does some sleuthing unknowingly bring danger upon them. Misunderstandings and hurt feelings almost get the best of them.
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems and the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I recommend and I absolutely loved this book, if your looking for romance! It was truely amazing and I still can't get over how much I am in love with the characters. Every scene pulls you deeper into the story and more in love. Zach proves himself to be a strong, lovable character throughout the entire book. It us full of adventure, romance, suspense, and humor. Mac was just the best with his cheezie pick-up lines. I volunteerely reviewed and definitely be adding to my permanent collection and looking for more
I really enjoyed this book. The suspense was well drawn out and kept me reading. The steamy scenes were okay- not the best I've read but nowhere close to the worst either. I loved the ending and how these two worked through the problems they had faced. The beginning may seem crazy, that they would come together at all with all that happens between them and all she is battling from her past, but I think that just makes the ending sweeter.
*I am leaving an honest and voluntary review after receiving this book as an arc.
Maddie is a woman on the run with her 6 month old nephew Jesse fleeing Wyoming and heading to Lubbock, Texas. Her sister Laural and Maddie's boyfriend Vince were murdered by Laural's boyfriend Derek. The case didn't go to trial, so she has to run with the baby because Derek's family are rich and influential. Her aunt Pru, her only family, gives her a vintage gas guzzler to escape. They keep in touch with a burner cell phone and Pru tells her every time Derek shows up at the house. When she gets to Lubbock, she looks for a job tending bar, and happens to end up at the bar her boyfriend used to frequent. She is drinking snake bites and hears a voice that sounds like Vince, and it is a man that is watching her and buys her a drink. Zach takes her up to his room and before they can really fool around he gets a call and there is a woman on the other line, it freaks Maddie out and she accidentally shoots Zach when his sister barges into his room. It was a through and through shot to his arm. His sister takes the gun with her so he doesn't get shot again. Zach helps her get a job at the hotel/bar and even babysits Jesse. Maddie becomes too attached and plans on running again, but Zach and his family butt into her life and keep her from running. Zach has fallen in love with her, without knowing the truth about her. Will he still love her when he finds out everything he knows about her is a lie?
Maddie wasn't looking for a knight. All she wanted was one night, what she found may just save her life. I so enjoyed this story. The backstory for Maddie and little Jesse was heartbreaking. It also sets up more than is known until late in the story. Zach's family is annoying, funny, interfering and loyal beyond measure. I can't wait to read the next book. I received a copy of this book via Hidden Gems which I am voluntarily reviewing.
I always know a book by Suzie Quint is going to keep me up way too late & A Knight in Cowboy Boots didn't disappoint. I loved the story & thought Zach was just perfect. The heat between Maddie & Zach was HOT. I look forward to reading more in the McKnight series

A woman and baby on the run meets a cowboy while looking for a job. Although she has many secrets and seems scared most of the time, he still feels a strong attraction. When her stalker appears she attempts to run, but is rescued by the family members of the Mc Night family.
