If you are interested in Fashion photography lighting, you've probably poured over sites such as Strobist and flickr groups devoted to set ups and lighting diagrams. The downside of those groups is that they are mostly populated by amateurs who don't have the experience, skill set, or articulation to bring an understanding to everything that goes into a very successful fashion shoot.

Light and Shoot 50 Fashion Photos is a how-to-guide full of images AND thoughts by professionals. 50 images are dissected - the photographers give their thoughts and 3 separate 3-D diagrams are provided of the set up for each shot. I've found that the photographer's thoughts are just as invaluable as the set ups. After all, a good photographers wants to do more than ape another's shot - he/she wants to create their own unique signature shots as well. That's why the artist discussions and tips for each shot that are appropriate and handy.

The first chapter provides a clear and simple guide to equipment, lighting, and suggestions on what to invest in to learn fashion photography. That is geared more toward the very beginner, of course, and doesn't take up too much room in the book. Those worried that the book may be over their head need not have qualms about buying the book.

What's most important is that the author stresses that lighting styles come in and out of fashion and are constantly evolving. The focus and importance of fashion lighting is that it should be concerned with artistic vision/creativity/ideas and not technique. This book keeps that perspective beautifully.

This book contains more "funny stories" about the shoots than technical details. There are much better video workshops on beauty lighting out there.
