Not every home owner or apartment dweller can afford to hire an interior decorator, but this book and a bit of do-it-yourself spirit are all that's needed to give living interiors an elegant, professionally finished look. Presenting all the design principles and techniques needed for creating beautiful rooms, Interior Design Course advises readers on how to think visually and develop distinctive, personal styles of their own. The book is organized into units that reflect interior design courses offered at leading schools. Step-by-step tutorials guide readers through the entire design process, starting with planning the space, then instructing on choosing color schemes and furnishings, and working with a variety of materials. Separate units focus on design principles pertaining to the suburban home. . . the urban live/work loft apartment. . . utilitarian bathroom and kitchen design . . . commercial interiors, including restaurants, retail spaces, and offices. There is also a chapter on becoming a professional interior designer, with advice on preparing a portfolio and marketing one's skills. A gallery of finished examples by professional designers and advanced students presents scores of beautiful and instructive color photos. Here in a single volume are the insights and techniques for producing handsome, highly professional-looking designs. More than 300 color illustrations.
This is a good starter into the career of Interior Design.
I am an Interior Design student and this is great to get a good grasp of the concept of what we designers are and what we do. This book stays true to its title because you do feel like you are taking an Interior Design course at your very own pace which is why I started it last year but ended up finishing it today.
It has taught me things that I have yet to learn in my classes and also gave me a refresher on subjects I learned about a couple of years ago. I would recommend this book mainly towards students or those that are thinking about choosing design as their career. It is also good to have if you are already a designer and need a refresher every once in a while.
Nonetheless, as a student I often find myself looking back at this book and others for guidance because college can't and doesn't teach you everything you need to know about your career. I always preach seeking extra knowledge from other inputs other than university. May that be through online courses, books or podcasts it is a wonderful extra piece of information that we can use in our careers.
Though, for it to be a course, the ending did end a bit abruptly. It talks about going on your own but I would have enjoyed it more if it went a bit more into details or perhaps a section where one can write notes, or even a letter from the author to an aspiring designer.
Just like taking a self-paced course on Interior Design. It touches on everything.
Whether your interested in finding a new way to see both public spaces and your own personal space (my initial interest) or you’re considering a career in Interior Design, this was an information packed gem.
Aún cuando se han hecho varios proyectos de interiores, parece que cada que se inicia uno nuevo es el primero de todos. Este libro para principiantes ayuda a mantener una metodología y explorar nuevas opciones de representación.
For the most part this book helps you get the right tools to make great concept art, so i recommend anyone who wants to read about interior design at least read the first few chapters and peruse the sections on finding resources and interior samples.
Great background reading for commercial interior design. Focus on architectural drawing, model making, concept boards, sample boards and setting up on your own.
