Rate this book
Four Romantic Suspense Novellas by award-winning, bestselling authors.

Out of Time by Lynn Blackburn

An attorney in Raleigh, NC, Hope Malone has never let her wheelchair stop her from reaching her goals. She’s established a successful business law practice and enjoys the occasional pro bono work. But when a long-lost friend reaches out for help, Hope finds herself dragged into a world of organized crime, kidnapping, and murder— and right back in the path of the one man she’s determined to avoid, FBI Special Agent Charles Romero.

Just days away from arresting the notorious crime boss, Charles never expects Hope— the woman who ghosted him seven weeks ago— to show up at a crime scene and nearly destroy his entire case. If he wants to convince her to give them another chance, he’ll first have to keep her from sacrificing her life to save two innocent ones.

Code Trauma by Lynette Eason Flight Nurse Practitioner, Holly Cooper, has an enemy who wants her gone from the hospital one way or another. She and her fiancé, Detective Andy McKittrick are “taking a break”, and a patient has died under mysterious circumstances. Life is complicated at the moment so when she’s attacked, her friends—and “on hold” fiancé come to the rescue. Andy may have his issues, but he’s never stopped loving Holly. When he hears someone is out to get her, he races to her side. Can they find a killer before the killer succeeds in sending Holly six feet under? Dawn's Hidden Threat by Elizabeth Goddard

An Unexpected Search and Rescue uncovers a hidden threat. When Ridge Ledger’s SAR and avalanche dog discovers an injured woman, Ridge is surprised that she’s the woman who broke his heart two months ago---in California. Not Alaska. He doesn’t know why she’s not still in the Lower 48, and he’s caught off guard when she attacks him as if fighting for her life. He’s shocked to learn the woman he loved has forgotten him. Angie Harris—is that even her name? —can’t recall who she is. She doesn’t know whom to trust, except for the man who rescued her from a cold dark cave and a grizzly bear. But she can’t forget the face of the man who tried to kill her. Remembering the reason that she came to Alaska is vital to her survival, and as it turns out, Ridge’s survival too.

Point Blank by Lisa Harris

From USA Today Best-selling author, Lisa Harris, comes a novella that brings together fan-favorite characters from two of her series—Nikki Boyd, her husband Tyler, and Jack Spencer from her best-selling Nikki Boyd Files Series, and Madison James and Jonas Quinn from her more recent US Marshal Series. When one of Nikki’s teammates is killed during a routine training exercise at a shoot house, deadly secrets are revealed as evidence of murder surfaces. Now, the remaining team is caught up in a highly personal case that pulls them into a tangled web of deception as they race to find a killer.

Super good collection.

I preordered this as soon as I knew it was available. I read all these authors and just couldn’t wait to see what they had for their readers. All were good, but my favorite was Lynn Blackburn’s contribution. Well done!

Lynn's story for this collection features Hope from her Defend and Protect series. I have been waiting for Hope's story and it did not disappoint! The mystery was fantastic for it being a novella and the romance between her and Charles was so so good. Great read!

Lynette's story has Holly and Andy from her Extreme Measures series and was also very good. The villain wasn't hard to figure out, but there were still surprises along the way, and the ending was great.

Elizabeth’s story was a fun look at the setting and some of the folks that will be in her new series. I enjoyed the mystery of this one and the characters were extremely likable. I am excited for this new series!

Lisa’s story was good. I liked seeing familiar faces from some of her other novels. The mystery was good and held my attention.

Fun collection overall!

I can’t tell you how much I LOVE novellas! Getting to see minor characters in their own story, crossovers from authors’ different series, or major characters but years later, is one of THE BEST things to read! And when it’s some of your favorite authors all in one book?! Even better! 😍😍🔥😍

Action, romance, women with super cool jobs, faith, and suspense! I can’t recommend these authors or their books enough! 💕

I've read 2 of the 4 stories: Blackburn's 'Out of Time' and Harris's 'Point Blank.' Both are 80+ pages and have good pace which keeps you turning the pages.

Blackburn's is perhaps too focused on the romance element of the story. Too much of the suspense plot is told to us when it gets wrapped up. I did like that Blackburn has her main character in a wheelchair. Hope is a talented lawyer who had an accident as a teenager which has left her as a paraplegic. It was good to read a romantic suspense story featuring a character with a disability.

Harris's 'Point Blank' brings together two sets of characters from 2 of her recent series: Nikki Boyd and US Marshalls. It's fun reading such a crossover story being a fan of the two series in which the characters star. This probably could have been a little longer as it wrapped up a bit too easily but it has Harris' typical fast pace that keeps you on your toes as a reader.

I'll review the other 2 stories in due course.

I'm sitting in my car, waiting for a friend, and I of course forgot my book at home. What to do? I grab my phone and start looking through the Kindle app for a book I may have forgotten about or one I feel like re-reading. Oh! That novella collection I pre-ordered! I'd forgotten about that. Sounds perfect.

And that is the story of how I came to read this collection at this point in time.

I have a hot and cold relationship with novellas. I really enjoy them, as they usually give me a peek into the before or after of characters I really like, but they are always too short and typically, the climax and ending seem too rushed. It's the flaw of novellas and my one issue with most of these stories.

Out of Time 4.5 stars
This was an interesting story because it focuses on two side characters from Unknown Threat. Charles and Hope already are in a relationship and the development is working through some personal fears and insecurities. It was interesting. I LOVED Charles. He is so great. And getting back to all the North Carolina crew from two different series was nice. Even though this is a novella, there still was a good theme about letting people make their own choices in relationships. A cute and fun book with "old friends".

Code Trauma 3 stars
Another unique novella, Code Trauma takes place in the middle of a series that is not fully released yet. Holly works with Penny and Raina from Eason's Extreme Measures series. I totally called the perp almost instantly. It was an interesting story but not my favorite of the collection.

Dawn's Hidden Threat 4 stars
While Blackburn's book is an epilogue novella, and Eason's was a middle novella, Goddard's contribution sets up a new series that she is starting. How exciting! We have a character with amnesia who windes up in Alaska with no knowledge of anything except a face. I'd really like this to be fleshed out more, so we shall see what happens with the series. There is also a nice tie-in to her last series with a drone from Hanstech.

Point Blank 4 stars
Like Blackburn, Harris is giving us a cross-series cast reunion, but it's an epilogue to the Nikki Boyd series and a prequel to the U.S. Marshals series. The events are something that were alluded to in Marshals series and now we know what occurred. I really didn't see the twist coming or know what to think about the various suspects. All in all, it was really sad.

Setting aside the fact that I wished all of these stories were full books, I really enjoyed each novella and the chance to "see" old friends again and get introduced to a new series that I'm intrigued about!

Excellent Collection of romantic suspense novellas by some of the most talented authors in this genre!

Out of Time by Lynn H. Blackburn can be read as a standalone novella, but if you've read Unknown Threat, you will remember Faith's sister Hope. I love this continuing story of Hope Malone & Charles her protector from Unknown Threat! Hope's faith has always been strong despite the many difficulties in her life. In Out of Time, we see that even someone with deep faith can stumble when coming to grips with old hurts and fears.

Code Trauma by Lynette Eason can be read as a standalone novella, but if you've read Life Flight you will be familiar with the Helicopter flight crew. It was so wonderful to read Holly Cooper's story! Someone wants her gone, and if she doesn't go they will kill her. It's a race to find out who is behind these threats before Holly gets hurt.

Dawn's Hidden Threat by Elizabeth Goddard is such a great story of a woman found by a search and rescue dog and his owner. She has a head injury complete with amnesia just when she needs to remember who she is and why she is in danger. Why does her rescuer know her? Why does she remember his dog? The exciting thing is this novella intoduces the author's new series Missing in Alaska book 1 Cold Light of Day releasing early 2023. You get to meet Chief Autumn Long of Shadow Gap whose story will be in book 1.

Point Blank by Lisa Harris
How fun! This novella combines some of the characters from the Nikki Boyd series (which I have not read yet, and can't wait to read), and Madison James and Jonas Quinn from her more recent US Marshal Series (which I have read and loved)! One of their team members is killed in a highly secure training excercise and it's a race to find the killer before anyone else's life is in danger. A page-turner for sure, loved it!

I was so happy my pre-ordered copy arrived on release day! I highly recommend this terrific collection of suspenseful novellas!

This collection is by four of my favorite inspirational romantic suspense writers. So, I am not surprised that I really enjoyed this one. I like how all of the books connected to other series written by the authors.

Out of Time by Lynn Blackburn is about Hope Malone who is introduced in one Lynn's previous books. (She is Faith's sister who makes an appearance in Unknown Threat.) I liked how the author had the storyline continuing behind the scenes. Because fiercely independent Hope is in a wheelchair, trying to keep her safe from threats adds an interesting element. I have enjoyed the Defend and Protect series, so I am glad that there was another novella added to the books.

Code Trauma by Lynette Eason
We meet Flight Nurse Practitioner, Holly Cooper, in Life Flight. Trying to figure out who is attacking her was challenging. I liked how her past and present connected. I have enjoyed this series that revolves around the tense world of medical rescue.

Dawn's Hidden Threat by Elizabeth Goddard
Since this is a prequel to the author's next series, it took me a little bit to get into it as I was not really connected to the characters yet. But by the end, I definitely knew that I want to read the series. Trying to figure out why the heroine was hiding was important. I liked the Alaska setting and the search and rescue portion.

Point Blank by Lisa Harris
I loved that this book connected to two of Lisa's series. What was interesting was that it was set after the Nikki Boyd Files series and before the US Marshal series as this is the book where Madison James and Jonas Quinn meet. There were surprises in this one, and I really enjoyed how the characters were connected.

I read this book during June and July. (I waited to read Elizabeth Goddard's book until I read book three in her current series.) I am glad that it was a part of Kindle Unlimited.

"It was Charles. She'd successfully avoided seeing him for weeks. Not because she didn't want to see him. Because she wanted to see him too much." - Out of Time, Lynn H. Blackburn

A nicely paced package of sweet romance and intense drama, merging the demands of trying to solve a murder, find missing children, and restoring a relationship. Hope and Charles are wonderful characters whom fans will love having all to themselves.

"'Stay out of this hospital', the voice whispered. 'Or die. This is your last warning.'" - Code Trauma, Lynette Eason

A series of bizarre notes led flight nurse practitioner Holly Cooper to suspect that she had a stalker, but the threats were escalating to the point that she felt seriously threatened. Holly wished that the one person who made her feel safe was still close by, but he wasn't. . . Detective Andy McKittrick had asked for a "pause" in their relationship . . . whatever that meant, it was terrible timing.

"I don't know why I was in the cave. I don't know where home is. I don't know if my name is really Angie." - Dawn's Hidden Threat, Elizabeth Goddard

Surviving a fall off the side of an Alaskan slope, Angie Harris is left with a head injury and very little memory. The man who finds her is shocked to realize that he knows her, rather well actually, but she has no recollection of their prior relationship. As Angie slowly regains bits and pieces of herself, the reason for her being anywhere near Ridge Ledger becomes clear . . . . . DANGER AHEAD!!!

"How had this happened?" - Point Blank, Lisa Harris

During a routine training exercise, a member of Nikki Boyd's Tennessee Missing Person's Task Force team is actually killed. Unraveling the rather bizarre elements of the case not only consume a lot of Nikki's attention but their training leader, US Marshal Jonas Quinn, and the newest member of the team, Madison James spend some unexpected time together. A well-written thriller using only a small number of pages!

Confession/Disclaimer: My 5 stars are for Blackburn and Eason's novellas. I haven't read the other two, one because I didn't want to jump in at the end of series with no prior knowledge, and the other because I never got in to it. However, Out of Time and Code Trauma are two of my absolute favorites of Blackburn's and Eason's, and deserve the 5 stars.

Review: I love the heroes of Out of Time and Code Trauma. Kind, protective, good listeners, supportive, and humble. The heroines are great too, but the heroes are my favorites. Both stories are packed with suspense, as always, but my favorite part of them is the development of relationships, forgiveness given, and overcoming of their flaws---for both heroes and heroines. And, if you've read the other books in the respective series, you get to glimpse several old friends as well. Cannot recommend them highly enough!

Great stories! I would’ve preferred full-length stories to really develop the plots and characters but I suppose these are meant as a jumping off point so the reader will be tempted to read the authors’ other works. If one wants to read full stories about the characters, they’ll need to read the other books. Clever. I didn’t realize that when I picked up this anthology but I just borrowed it with Kindle Unlimited so I didn’t lose anything in the end. I won’t go back and look for those books now but it does give a good idea of the author’s’ writing styles and I definitely preferred some than others… A good sampling for sure.

2 authors I read and buy their books. Good to catch up with characters from new series/ older series.
eg Nikki n Tyler, Jonas and Maddison

2 authors I know of but haven't read their material. I will see if the local library supports buying their books/ebooks/audio?

Guessing the villain or the hunt to find who they are is always challenging. It doesn't matter if I am slow to pickup who they are? All will be revealed. keep reading.

I enjoyed reading these novellas. The nice thing about these are that you get to read a story from author's you really like (in my case Lynn H. Blackburn) and get to know new writers.
I preferred some over the others, which mostly had to do with writing styles and how well characters were developed, and one of them might have been nicer if I had read more of the author before, though it still was very enjoyable.
Overall a very enjoyable read!

I loved each of the stories in this anthology. Elizabeth Goddard is one of my favorite authors, along with Lynn Blackburn and Lynette Eason. Then you get a story from Lisa Harris, who I will now be looking to read more of her books. Each story is a stand alone but also ties into other books that they have wrote. Once you read these, you will want to get the other books that they tie in with. If you love romantic suspense, then you will love these stories.

A great compilation of authors

While I love Lynette Eason and Lynn Blackburn I have not read Lisa Harris or Elizabeth Goddard before this. After reading their portions of this book I look forward to reading more of their work. Each story stands on its own but can be hooked to the author’s own series in different way.

These well written novellas were all fantastic. The plot lines were believable and characters had good motivation for doing what the did. I really enjoyed Code Trauma by Lynette Eason. The medical setting was a nice twist, one I hadn't read before. My favorite was Dawn's Hidden Threat by Elizabeth Goddard. I loved the Alaska setting and the small homey community that was described so well.

These novellas were interesting and entertaining sidekicks to the various series the authors drew their characters from but they did not particularly wow me. However, I will continue read the books these authors write because all of these authors are among my favourites.

I'm not generally a fan of novellas but I didn't want to miss these connections to my favorite books. They have the problems typical of novellas - they're too short - but they are great pieces of bigger collections. If you're a fan of these authors, don't miss them.
