Every path has a destination. Brian Haynes wants to take parents down the path of intentional spiritual parenting. The destination is a new generation of children emerging as adults who know how to love God and love people. This new generation will also know how to equip their own children to do the same. The Legacy Path is a book meant to change the culture by moving our children and grandchildren toward life God s way instead of life portrayed as right in the eyes of the world. The reader will find many practical steps explained allowing the destination to be reached.
Note to my Catholic friends: this guy is not Catholic and makes some arguments agains infant baptism, among other things that done align with the faith. I read this for work, and I think there are some important truths in here that Catholic parents — and the Church as a whole — could learn from. The proposal here is to disciple our children along a path that includes both intentional faith formation within the home and real-life application in the area of morality, sexuality, and even practical life skills like laundry and house keeping. This is my vision for discipleship formation within the domestic Church.
Brian starts with what God expects from families and how to set up family culture with a foundation of abiding in God. He leads you through practical steps from very young child to young adult, highlighting faith milestones. How to encourage your child to the next milestone and celebrate when it happens.
fairly repetitive of things i’ve heard across the family ministry front, nothing bad, just nothing new. Maybe what makes this unique is that it is a somewhat condensed and simplified version of this information.
I was so thankful that a friend gave me this book. This book is based on the Shema in Deuteronomy 6:4-9. It goes through the idea that as parents, we are the primary faith teachers to our children and that we can start a legacy of faith. Haynes details 7 milestones along this path towards a spiritual legacy. I highly recommend this book.
This was written by my pastor, who is an amazing man after God's heart. My husband and I both enjoyed reading the book, learning each milestone, as well as watching our daughters as they go through them. This book is a must have for all parents and grandparents!!
Not a bad read, especially for those looking for practical ideas and a clearly articulated vision for parenting. I thought the best chapter was the one on when you do all the right things and it still doesn't work.
These milestones will change the way that you look at Family Ministry. If you and your church want to get serious about intentionally reaching families, this is a must read.
