A plague from the past threatens dragons, and their riders…
A mysterious sickness ravages the land, causing dragons and their riders to fall into a never-ending sleep. Cora and her dragon steed Alaric are determined to find a cure… Especially as the sickness begins to claim the lives of their fellow dragon riders.
But Cora and Alaric are not immune to this unholy illness. Risking their lives, they join a team of dragon riders on a perilous journey to the Heart of Tenegard, where a mysterious healer believes they may find a cure. Tensions run high, as the group begins to suspect that a traitor lurks in their midst, manipulating dark magic and endangering them all.
The sickness threatens those closest to Cora, and the dragon school itself is in danger. If she cannot stop this malady from spreading, there may be no dragon riders left to defend Tenegard.
But time is running out. Can she find the cure for this ancient sickness, before it’s too late?
Ava Richardson writes epic page-turning Young Adult Fantasy books. She creates lovable characters and drops them into intricate worlds that are barely contained within your eReader. Ava has written 21 YA dragon fantasy series, including her bestselling series Return of the Darkening and her recent series, Destia's Dragon Shifter War.
She grew up on a steady diet of fantasy and science fiction books handed down from her two big brothers – and despite being dog-eared and missing pages, she loved escaping into the magical worlds that those authors created. Her favorites were the ones about dragons; where they’d swoop, dive and soar through the skies of these enchanted lands.
Most of Ava's books start and end with a positive feeling, at the least, a sense of hope which is one of the reasons I so enjoy her books. They're almost like the perfect sandwich, 2 tasty slices of bread with a filling to tease your tastebuds! As it is in book 4 of this series. Cora is happy, her dad is healthy again, ready to remarry, she and Alaric have completely embraced one another, the Dragons and humans are coming out of the stupor enforced on them and they've won a major battle. So all good, right? Welllll....
Both Cora and Octavia are being undermined by the vile Northwood and his lackey Emmett, who are doing everything possible to get the council to their way of thinking, which is to grasp power away from the ladies. Of course there's gotta be a greedy so and so wanting control, sowing suspicion and discord but to what end? When a strange illness descends on the school, affecting both riders and dragons, Cora and Octavia rack their brains coming up with a cure, which is a heck of a problem when they don't know what is causing it nor why.
Once again we're plunged into uncertainty, into betrayal of the worst kind and a sense of urgent despair. It takes Cora a while to figure it out, but when she does, I was as astonished as she was! Geez, just goes to show, DON'T take anything at face value! She's battling her uncertainty, she's battling the meddling Emmett, at the same time as her tether and bond to Alaric is stretched alarmingly. Leaving her confused, not knowing who she can trust. My word did I and Cora do an about turn! Yeah, that little titbit sure messed with my head! The who to trust that is... wasn't who I expected. I love how she expores every single avenue, even the depth of her magic to get to the truth. Her growth is awesome, her magic is awesome. I love how strong Octavia is, ok, so she does flounder a bit but she takes the bull by the horns and faces it head in. Her relationship with Strida is put to the test and I felt her anguish but personal joy and happiness is put aside to solve this mystery and also to try sway the council. I love her analytical mind, her drive, and her amazing bond with Raksha.
Yes things look bleak, yes there are challenges but there's also hope and a certainty that Cora will find a cure, that she will follow every path available to her, that she will delve into the unknown to get answers. A great paced book with a great convoluted plot to keep me guessing and a great continuation of this great series.
After defeating Onyx, Cora and Alaric were hoping that they would live a life filled with training new riders and their dragons, but a new and unsettling foe emerges in the form of a plague that feeds on the bonds between dragons and their riders! Saddled with an emissary from the capital that snoops into everything, Cora must work with him and someone who seems like a friend, to gain information in order to stop this sickness! Another great chapter in this series!.

This is book four of the Rise of the Dragon Riders series and the dragon riders at the Dragon Rider Academy are about to face a strange sickness that affects both riders and dragons. It attacks those newest to their bonds and seems to put both rider and dragon into a deep sleep that not even their healers can help with. Cora, Faron, Octavia and Strida are called back from the wedding of Cora’s father to healer Elaine in Bancroft, with this news. Octavia is also told of a vote the council have brought forward in her absence, to vote on the future of lands available to the dragons, which Councillor Northwood seems to be trying his best to push through, against the welfare of the dragons and their future. He is also pushing Cora to decide on sending dragon riders and their dragons to the borders with Athelia, which she is hoping to ignore thinking it would be more likely to push them into an unwanted war. Not getting any answers to his letters, he has sent his representative Emmet to the school and all he seems to do is try to fight what Cora and all the other instructors are doing and how they are teaching the new riders! That is the least of their worry once the sleeping plague hits and more and more students and their dragons are affected. A call goes out for more healers, but none have ever seen anything like this.
Octavia and Strida have been separated by the council’s demands on Octavia once again and even Cora and Faron’s relationship is under strain with Cora taking all the burden of what is happening to the young riders and dragons on her own shoulders. One of the new batch of healers has some questions about dragon tongue and how the link between dragon and dragon rider are both being affected by this plague. A trip to her gran’s cave and the crystals lead Cora to discover an unknown source of magical energy that may well provide a cure to the sleeping sickness. Only the strongest of the dragon riders will be able to possibly find its source and track it through the mountains, but that leaves those left behind without strong leadership. Emmet and the new healer insist on coming with Cora, Strida and Faron. Octavia is on her own quest to see if the hordes of dragon scales may be of some assistance in the healing of those already ill, but she faces stiff opposition from Northwood as expected! Cora’s team face a possible traitor within their midst and it is far too easy to place the blame on one of the two strangers, but she knows any of them could have been taken over with magic. Unless they can find this traitor and the origin of the black magic being used against them, the dragon riders and their dragons will be no more, leaving Tenegard defenceless! Time is running out and even the strongest among them are affected now and the story ends with the traitor found but the plague is not yet stopped, only delayed in its effect. Cora and her friends face yet another challenge that will take their relationships to the extreme and test them severely. Still more to come and I can’t wait to see how they solve this issue and discover the enemy against them. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Dragon Plague, the fourth installment in the Rise of the Dragon Riders series by Ava Richardson, takes readers on a thrilling and perilous adventure as a mysterious sickness threatens both dragons and their riders. In a race against time, Cora and her loyal dragon steed, Alaric, embark on a dangerous quest to find a cure and save their fellow riders from the clutches of eternal slumber.

As the sickness claims lives and the dragon school itself hangs in the balance, Cora must confront her own vulnerability and the possibility of losing everything she holds dear.
Joined by a team of dragon riders, Cora navigates treacherous territory, not only battling the ancient plague but also grappling with the presence of a traitor in their midst. The intricate web of dark magic and manipulation heightens the stakes, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.
The Heart of Tenegard holds the key to finding a cure, but time is running out. Richardson's vivid storytelling and rich world-building transport readers to a realm where the bond between dragons and their riders is tested like never before. The emotional depth of the characters and the high-stakes nature of their mission create an immersive reading experience.
Dragon Plague is a captivating addition to the Rise of the Dragon Riders series, showcasing Ava Richardson's talent for crafting compelling fantasy tales. With its blend of adventure, intrigue, and the enduring power of friendship, this book will leave readers eagerly anticipating the next chapter in Cora's journey.
In the face of impending doom, Cora's resilience and determination shine through, making Dragon Plague an enthralling read that fans of dragon-centered fantasy will devour.
I absolutely adored the first books in this series, and I’m happy to say this book was just the same. I liked how the book pivoted from fighting what felt like an external “big bad” villain in the prior book to something that existed within the dragon rider community and their land’s council. Yes, of course, onyx was a part of that government, but he felt like a separate, bigger villain. This book focused on the new dragon riders, their dragons, and the council. Parts of it were about politics. I certainly felt sorry for the diplomatic liaison, the former princess and potential heir of the villain of the previous book. Few took her seriously for a long time—too long—and I so disliked seeing her belittled when she only spoke the truth as she knew it and only wanted to help the afflicted. She had no agenda, like others on the council. The plague that hit the dragon riders and their dragons was harsh, shocking, and a true, menacing medical mystery that needed solving—and fast! What it actually turned out to be was incredibly fascinating and complex but made contextual sense. Relationships are developing in this book, too, with the necessary bumps along the road. This more personal aspect in no way detracted from the action but only added to its poignancy. While the author gives a good explanation (without info dumping, thank you!) about what happened in prior books, you will certainly enjoy this best if you have read or listened to the other books of the series. This author knows how to write good fantasy fiction, and I have enjoyed every book of hers that I've read or listened to. Highly recommended.
I received a free digital copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
*received an early copy of this through netgalley for an honest review
This book continues with our protagonist, Cora Hart, who is renowned as the strongest dragon rider since their near extinction over a century ago.
This fourth installment, overall, improves from the first three. I am more interested in this antagonist and their motives than I was of the previous. I believe the author handled the antagonist's show of power much better, and they actually appear to be a foreboding force for Cora and her friends. With that said, the antagonist's reveal was a bit too predictable from the unnecessary amount of foreshadowing. I also hope this character steers clear of the cliche villain who's only goal is to take over the world. However, I appreciate that the stakes are higher and the consequences more dire, which I commented that the previous books lack.
Overall, this book follows a similar format as its predecessors with some engaging turn of events here and there. The characters could still use some more depth and variety in their personalities and dialogue, and the world building would benefit from more showing than telling.
I still enjoyed the book for its fantastical themes and positive message.
Another exciting series from Ava Richardson. We are riding with Cora and Alaric again as a new threat appears in Tenegard. Our heroine has to deal with unwelcome visitors from the newly formed government and a disease that strikes down dragons and dragon riders.
Already busy trying to train new dragon riders, Cora has to try and decide who she can trust. This is not going to be an easy task for Cora. She is going to make mistakes, and she is going to question every decision. Especially when she loses friends and finds out that people she thought of as allies and foes may not be who she thinks. Brilliant character development, and then add into the mix a desperate search for a cure to the sickness, and you have the making of a cracking good story. There is a fascinating side story around Strida and Octavia, their burgeoning love affair and the mistakes we have all made when relationships are new and delicate. As usual, there is plenty of action, twists and turns in the plot, and some interesting magic to get into.

I originally didn’t realize I was walking into a series very late. However, I still surprisingly found myself enjoying the book, even if I was missing some developments of relationships and lore. This book is very straight forward, with little prose - but it does not lack for substance.
I also quite like the main character Cora. She’s simple enough, but often pensive and in touch with the world around her. I liked the relationship between her and her father the most. I was not that much of a fan of the romance, but that may because I came in late to the series and didn’t witness it develop. Possibly also because, I’m not the target age range of the series.
Overall, this seems like quite the read and I would highly recommend it to fans of fantasy and teen or YA fantasy. Also fans of romance. It seems very underrated.

Dragon Plague is book # 4 in a fantasy series about a teenage girl discovering that her world is based on lies and that dragons really are an intelligent species able to bond with humans for life. The author does a pretty good job of explaining what is needed to read this as a stand alone, but reading the whole series would make it so much better. The story also ends with strong hints of a # 5 in mind, but it is not a cliffhanger. In this novel the dragons and their riders at their newly established school face an unknown illness and they race time, politics and new friends and adversaries for a cure.
This is the fourth in the Rise of the Dragon Riders series. It picks up where the previous one left off. Cora and the dragon riders have started a school for dragon riders and aside from the politicians giving her and Octavia problems things are going well. Unfortunately that changes. Dragon riders and dragons begin getting sick. They fall asleep and don't wake up. Even the healers can't seem to figure out what is wrong. Cora is at her wit's end and all hope seems lost. Then another healer comes and seems to have a solution. Will they be in time to save the riders and their dragons? What will be the cost to Cora? It starts slow but the pace picks up and questions arise as to who or what is behind the problems. And who is the betrayer. Kept me guessing until the end. Looking forward to the next book to find out what happens next.

This book has destroyed my year! I am now shifting my TBR around to make time and read/listen to more books of Ava Richardson! And I can believe I am just discovering her and her series now, and what an amazing narration by Amy Hall.
Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Audio 💗💗💗💗💗
I was given this book as an ARC audiobook, then I realized it was part of a series and thought I wouldn't be able to understand the book and love the characters. But oh how wrong I was! I loved the story, it is a continuation but every book is based on a different main plot so is easy to be lost in this world. And not only it was beautiful written but the turns and plot twists were excellent!
Amy Hall, is one of my favorite narrators, she always managed to hold my attention and she made this book even better!
Now, I am going to download and listen to the other books of this series and explore the worlds that this author creates.
Dragon Plague follows Cora and her dragon Alaric as they race to find a cure to mysterious sickness ravaging the land and causing dragons and riders alike to fall into a fatal sleep. As Cora navigates complicated political issues pulling her away from finding the cure Alaric supports and guides her the best he can as they try to stay focused on finding a cure. Soon friends and allies begin to fall as the sickness spreads claiming the lives of their fellow dragon riders.
Cora and Alaric risk their lives by joining a team of dragon riders that head out on a perilous journey to the Heart of Tenegard to find a healer who may hold the key to a cure. Tensions run high, as the group suspects that a traitor lurks in their midst, manipulating dark magic to thwart them endangering all of Tenegard if the mission is not successful.
In all it was a great read and I enjoyed it very much!
Cora and her friends have defeated King Onyx and have started a dragon rider training academy. The new ministry sends a liaison to supervise and report back on the school administration. A new sickness starts attacking dragon riders specifically, seemingly affecting the bond between a dragon and their rider. As with all Ava Richardson tale, there is a great plot, intrigue and fast paced action. Bonds are tested. Lives lost. A great read. Can't wait for more in this series. 5/5 stars.

If training dragon riders and a new school is not enough to cope with a mysterious illness which affects riders and dragons appears. Cora, Faron and Alaric lead a quest to discover a cure. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I got to be honest this book had me go through a variety of emotions. Parts of the book were predictable. I won't post spoilers. But some villains are obvious. The pacing for me was slow to begin with then picked up. I just was very determined to get to the end and I am glad I did. Which is why I eventually decided on a 4 rating. I was eventually fully hooked by the end

I was initially going to give this book a 3.5… but it kept getting better and better. As Ava grows into her craft and expands her professional resources she is learning to master her craft and weave plot twists and turns and expand her characters in ways that I enjoyed! Great work Ava! Looking forward to book 5!
Superb series, exciting, intriguing and extremely enjoyable!!!
Congratulations to Ava Richardson for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
This is a really great series now on to the next book
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that She never stops writing. Her books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
A adventure unparalleled. I cannot Waite for the next episode. I wonder if Cora will find new tools written on the cavern wall where her grandma used to take her as a little child.
I only gave this book a 3 rating as I was not able to get into it and if I am being honest I found it very boring and so predictable and I just hope that the next book is not the same and it saddens me because Ava is a great writer and I enjoy her books.
Cora and Alaric are dealing with an outbreak that is killing dragons and their riders in this book. I love how they are willing to risk their lives to save others.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Cora, Alaric, Faron, Wynn, Strida and Emrys have started their Dragon Rider school and it appears to be doing well. The country is at peace and Octavia as well as Alaric's mother are on the newly formed Council.
Northwood, a former Onyx supporter and lackey likes to control everything, throw his weight around and decides to send the meddlesome Emmett to spy and report on the school as well as the dragon riders and find any and all flaws so that the Council can take over administrating de School.
One day, a sickness appears targeting the young riders and their dragons. It attacks their magic that it drains. Cora and the faculty are at a loss and the healers find themselves in uncharted territory.
On one expedition, Cora meets Malusine who says that she is a healer and can provide assistance.
The author has started the second part of the dragon riders story, using her special gift to incorporate the sense of teacher/students protection, the fierce protective instinct of the hierarchy within the dragon riders camp and the determination to succeed.
Love, hate, friendship, mentoring, Treachery and a profound sense of loss make this book 5 Stars mate rial that I highly recommend.
