Francis thought he had it all until danger came into his life…and he realised the man he’d always liked had become the one man he longed to love.
When Francis agreed to let his cousin stay at his place, he had no idea it would trigger a chain of events that would change his life forever. Bill Timmons had watched Francis for months waiting for the perfect time to insert himself into the other man’s life. When Francis gets into trouble, Bill decided this time nothing was going to stop him from protecting Francis.
Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.
When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.
During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.
Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.
She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres..
File this under stuff I read when I'm so tired I just want my jack rabbit-like brain to shut the fuck up.
Thank you, Arnold. But you forgot to use the word "fuck." You fuck up.
Okay.
Francis is beautiful, rich & selfless. Bill is the regular Joe who digs him.
Will their potential love survive a stalker, a visiting homophobic cousin & multiple trips to the hospital?
Well, of course, sillies!
I was looking for a light, fluffy read that required little to no brain function. That’s exactly what I got, plus the added benefit of some surprisingly fun dialogue. I was so pleased with this little story (or that my hypercritical mind shut-up for once) I even forgot to be bored when the MC’s discussed the state of their relationship 3 different times over the course of one evening (it was their second date). Discuss it as much as you want, boys, I'm just going to sit here & smile.
Ask and ye shall receive thy bounty that shall come when ye should be resting but ye have woken and chosen to read while you partake of carrot cake and fruit punch.
Yes, I woke up in the middle the middle of the night and realized that Monday had gone by without me checking out Total-e-bound's new releases. Lo and behold, there was a new Amber Kell just waiting for me to pounce on it.
Protecting Francis is the semi-sequel to Taking Care of Charlie. It's about Marcus' beautiful friend Francis and the P.I. Bill Timmons.
Bill wants Francis in that I'm-watching-you-shower-through-the-bathroom-window-while-I-perch-on-a-tree-branch kind of way that has become the staple in Kell's Yearning Love series. Bill has a plan, you see. He's going to burrow his way deep into Francis' life. That way when Bill's not around Francis will miss him. The plan makes complete sense and makes absolutely no sense all at the same time.
Francis is just trying to keep from losing his heart to Bill. He's not too worried about Bill being dangerous because Francis is deadly with his fists even though he's small and gorgeous.
There's a couple of things I really liked about this story. The first is that while Bill quickly falls in love with Francis, he's not in love at the beginning of the story. As a matter of fact, he didn't think about getting with Francis until he sees the man doing good deed. Bill is not a love-slut and that gets a standing ovation from me.
The second thing I liked was the character of Francis' cousin Ray. Ray is described as being an ass and sure enough, he's an ass for the whole story. He doesn't suddenly see the light or anything and he acknowledges that he's an ass. I ended up liking Ray because he wasn't all bad. When he was being a douche, Francis had no problem setting him straight...by punching him in one tender spot or another. I was laughing my butt off.
Oh! There's a bit of a hoopla going on too. A fight, to be exact, with what seems to be a giant with a knife and hopped up on PCP.
I have no idea who the next story is going to be about. I've got my fingers crossed, hoping that it will be a Gay-For-You featuring my favorite jerk, cousin Ray. I know who I want him to fall for too; the hot doctor.
As usual, this story was entertaining. It was a fluffy romp that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This is the second short story (about 58 pages) in the Yearning Love series and it features Francis and Bill. Both appears in book #1: Francis is Marcus's friend while Bill helped to find Charlie when he was kidnapped.
Just like book #1, I don't think I can give coherent opinion. The story is rather flat without any in-depth / intense conflict. Bill has been yearning for Francis and he is determined to make Francis sees him differently. Francis has been falling for losers and he wonders if Bill is the right one because he's different than his other lovers. Insert date, kisses, sex, a whole protectiveness attitude from Bill (even if Francis has medals in boxing), and quick love. Take A Bow. Exit Stage. End.
It's formulaic and for me, pretty forgettable. I don't know if this is a series that I'd like to follow, considering the shortness and the non-excitement I feel when reading this *shrugs*. I guess it's okay if you need a quick fix for half-an-hour, just don't expect much.
Of course there’s a little too much stereotype-riddled plot crammed into such a brief story, but this is par for the course in this case and I don’t really mind. If anything, it felt kind of… malnourished. I would have liked a bit more depth and actual investment into the characters.
3.5 Me gustó más que el anterior pero todavía le encuentro fallas, no se porque meten el drama de hacerle daño me lo imagino por el titulo pero aun así esta bueno para leer entre lecturas y los personajes de este libro me gustaron más que en el anterior
Francis is a perfect drop dead gorgeous lawyer who all the boys and most of the girls want. However he doesn't have much luck with boyfriends. Bill, one of the investigators employed by his law firm has been chasing him, but Francis doesn't date people he works with, however when Bill shows up just as Francis is going out with friends, he invites him along and Bill makes the most of the opportunity to woo Francis. To add a bit of conflict, Francis' aunt has asked that her no-good son stay with him for a month until he finds a place. Francis hates his cousin but can't deny his aunt. While Francis is out, someone attacks his cousin in the apartment nearly killing him, causing Bill to go into overdrive "protecting Frances" even though Frances is a medal award winning boxer. It was pretty formulaic. I didn't get the insta-love feel because Bill and Frances did know each other for quite a while before they finally hook up, but there wasn't much too it either. The "bad guy" was clearly telegraphed early and I am over the "perfect gay who everyone wants and is so beautiful and kind and lovely and has a gorgeous body he inspires psychotic semi-stalkers."
In my humble opinion, Amber Kell is the Queen of the Novella. She manages to churn out sweet romances with just enough heat to keep me coming back for more. Protecting Francis is the second in the Yearning Love series. I liked it better than Taking Care of Charlie. In that book, Charlie had issues and Marcus was his knight in shining armor. In Protecting Francis, Francis is so not in need of protecting. On one hand he is very limp-wrist cliché, on the other he has a mean left hook and is not afraid to use it.
I wish the other MC, Bill could have been developed more. But, it was really sweet to watch him try to get close to Francis without scaring him off. God bless him, I just wanted to hug him and tell him “it would be all right.” (Because, I know Amber Kell ALWAYS finds a way to bring a happily ever after.)
If you are into sweet romance, sweet loving and a bit of suspense…this is a must read.
Quite nice, sweet story. Bill and Francis had had eyes on each other for a while, but only recently got together. When his dear aunt asked him to host his cousin Ray for a month, Francis agreed to it begrudgingly. While Francis was on a date with Bill, Ray was attacked inside Francis home. Who did that? Would it affect their still fragile relationship?
A great short story following Taking Care of Charlie - although you don't have to read that one first, it's another short story and those MC's are mentioned and show up several times so it's worth it. The 1st 2 MC's briefly show up the 3rd book "In Broussard's Care" as well.
All the characters are sexy and the stories are fast paced (which they have to be since they are short) but well done.
A very engaging series and a great afternoon read.
I'm a huge fan of Amber Kell so my reviews could potentially be biased each time, but I like the premise of this that a really good looking guy cannot find someone to like him for anything beyond what they see and assume about what they see. It's a short, enjoyable read and I would recommend it, it was a nice way to spend part of Sunday afternoon!
A second sweet romance. I didn't care for this one as much as the first. There were too many girly moments where it felt like the author rattled this one out in her own voice. What I call "women with man-parts" syndrome. Not as bad as other stories I've read like that, though, so I'm keeping this at 3 stars instead of 2. A light touch of mystery in it, but nothing deep.
About 3.5 stars. This was a cute short story. It was really too short for any serious character or plot development, but it did a decent job despite that fact. I think I liked this better as part of a series. As a standalone it would be more like 3 stars.
This second story in the series, while still a little too short for my taste, it was as beautiful as its predecessor. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.
Bill and I left the hospital heading for his house…which we would start to make our house. A home with someone to share it with. What more did anyone need?
