I received a free copy of, Jesus Listens for Christmas, by Sarah Young, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Everyday during advent you have a prayer verse, a letter to Jesus, and an activity to do. This seems like a great book for families during advent. I really liked the illustrations in this book.
I loved this book. It’s only the tenth day of Advent and I finished it because I couldn’t put it down. It’s a peaceful retreat. I read it with my tea beside me, wrapped in blankets in front of the fire. My candles were glowing, the Christmas tree shimmering, and my pug snoring beside me. It was pure bliss.
I liked this devotional but I didn’t love it. The illustrations are precious and I love the Bible verses she includes. It seems like there are too many devotionals for Advent, though I didn’t count them. They just not go deep enough. She’s kept the devotionals short, which is nice for a quick devotional, but I didn’t feel like it added much to my Advent season. That said, it is good enough and would be a nice gift for new Christians I think. It is a beautiful book.
A lovely devotional for Advent with even lovelier artwork illustrations by Sally Wilson, who should have been obviously credited without having to hunt for her name.
If you are looking for a beautifully illustrated, meaningful devotional for Advent and Christmas, Jesus Listens for Advent & Christmas by Sarah Young needs to be on your list.
Including excerpts from Jesus Listens® and Jesus Calling, this heartwarming devotional is filled with prayers, reflections, and Bible verses. At the end of the 40 days, which runs from December 1st - January 6th, the reader will find blank, lined pages to write down their Christmas prayers.
I loved everything about Jesus Listens for Advent & Christmas: the format, the stunning illustrations, the carefully crafted devotions and reflections, and the choice of verses. The illustrations display the beauty of God's nature, the symbols of Christmas and the peace, love, and joy that fills the season. A gold ribbon allows the reader to easily keep track of their progress. Perfect as a gift for others or for you, Jesus Listens for Advent & Christmas will be one of the most touching gifts received. I look forward to reading this book again next Christmas.
This children’s Advent devotional offers 25 days of prayers, activities and reflections to carry you through the season. Each day includes a prayer, scripture reading and either an activity or reflection prompt. The activities were often a craft, so if you’re not that I guess you just skip it. I definitely think you’ll get more out of this if you read the scripture first and then the prayer.
Thank you to NetGalley and Tommy Nelson for the ARC of this previously published book. All opinions are my own.
Beautiful book with lovely Christmas season paintings. Thoughtful devotions as always from this author.
Such a beautiful book, it’s a shame that someone wasn’t a better proofreader: as on page 155 where it’s supposed to be words from God speaking to us - the word “were” is used and it should be “where”. It’s a small mistake but it screams loud because God doesn’t make mistakes. I was surprised this wasn’t caught by anyone.
This was an amazing refresher devotional for the Christmas season. I have read Jesus Calling for Christmas every year since its debut, but when I saw Jesus Listens for Advent and Christmas, I just knew it would be my Christmas devotional for this year. I loved it and will definitely read it again. I love the Jesus Calling series because I feel like I am so close and wrapped in His Presence when reading.
Not just a lovely read, but an essential for raising Godly children this Christmas!
I looked forward to sharing this book with my daughter every night. Illustrations of children taking part in traditional Christmas rituals provide a wholesome backdrop for meaningful bible verse. This book provides clear and wholesome direction for bringing the meaning of Christ‘s birth to your child this Christmas.
This is a wonderful devotional for the Christmas season. Each section has a short devotion followed by scripture, each leading to the birth of the Savior. I began the daily reading during November and finished on Christmas Eve. If you are looking for a joyful devotional to prepare your heart for the Christmas season, I highly recommend this one by one of my favorites Sarah Young.
I loved this prayer/devotional book. I plan on buying other books that Sarah Young has written. This prayer book was very relatable and tied into Christmas season well. It’s also a beautiful book with precious illustrations for each prayer. It has a ribbon bookmark too! It would make a beautiful gift as well.
This is a lovely book with beautiful illustrations. My only complaint is that I thought the number of daily devotional readings covered Advent only to learn that there are considerably more than that. I still really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to others. It will be one I return to, but with the understanding of its length.
I enjoyed this book during December (and I finished it today, a little late), but I was very impressed about the careful and intentional selection of scripture to go with each devotional/prayer. Also, the artwork is exquisite.
The illustrations in this little book drew me in and connected me to the perfectly-chosen Bible verses accompanying each one. I knew these verses, but the sweet little pictures just gave them so much life.
My second year starting this and hope to finish this year. A very calming book with beautiful illustrations and daily prayers for the season to turn back closer to Jesus each day.
This was supposed to be a 40 day devotional I read one each day and now it is Dec 11 and the book is done!! I don’t know how it is a 40 day devotional!
Pretty shallow, fluffy, and emotionally based. Doesn’t really explore the deep meaning and significance of the incarnation and Advent—the deep and lengthy waiting for the Messiah.
This is a great way to refocus your heart and mind on Jesus & the ultimate gift his becoming a man on earth to fulfill that gift...salvation & eternal life in heaven after our earthly journey ends.
