Timothy Paul Jones is an American evangelical scholar known for his work in apologetics and family ministry. He serves as the C. Edwin Gheens Professor of Christian Family Ministry at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jones has authored influential texts defending the historical reliability of the New Testament and has promoted a model of “family-equipping ministry,” which balances family discipleship with age-specific church programs. His apologetics have evolved from evidential to presuppositional approaches, emphasizing the role of the church’s moral witness and care for the marginalized. He has been recognized for books such as Misquoting Truth, How We Got the Bible, and In Church as It Is in Heaven, the latter promoting multiethnic church communities. Jones is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and has been praised as a leading voice in engaging both secular critics and intra-faith debates. He and his wife Rayann have four adopted children.
This guide to eschatology covers the four main views, key biblical passages, and key themes that impact end times' interpretation and explanation. Jones writes in readable, sometimes playful, and always positive style, reminding readers of the foundational truths every faithful view of the end times espouses.
Could serve as a high school or college curriculum textbook. It serves as both and introduction and thorough initial foray into the topic and reads like an interesting textbook.
I thought TPL, a historic premillennialist, did a good job capturing good arguments for each of the positions. As an amilliennialist who used to hold the historic premillenial view, I think he could have more thoroughly presented the amil position. A good addition to any Christian's library wanting to be more knowledgable on the end times.
Decent read. No position declared to be correct. Thus all positions regarding interpretation old be construed to be correct despite the influence of flawed Augustinian eschatology.
This was an excellent Text Book style book about the different beliefs of the End Times described in the Bible. I'll refer to it often as I continue studying the Biblical prophecies. Everything was explained clearly with references.
Stellar overview on all things end-times. One of my favorite features throughout the book is the charts and graphics that help to explain the content. The random pictures that don't always correlate with the content are also an entertaining addition.
Actually very insightful and informative for being an objective elementary manual for outlying the main different eschatological positions. Also, the pictures are cool.
The author did a great job of being mostly objective in presenting the four major views of the end times in Scripture. I have always enjoyed the charts by Rose Publishing.
I have been doing a study of the end times for the last couple of years for my own understanding, Even though I have read several books and articles on the end times over the years.
For the last 2 years, I have really been doing a more in-depth study and I ran across this book, I found this book different from other books. The author doesn't put down what he believes is going to happen like so many other books did.
He actually writes according to what the scriptures say is going to happen. He keeps his personal belief or what his religion says is going to happen, he writes what the bible says is going to happen and he explains it clearly.
This is an incredible book and I have learned so much from this book. I don't feel more confused from reading this book like I have from other books. He made things a lot more clearer than other books.
The books I read before this one were more confusing for the reason was my understanding at that time was not as advanced as it is now. They helped build my understanding.
As I gain more knowledge I can go back to the other books and understand them more clearly and gain the knowledge I need in my studies of the end times.
‘Rose Guide to End-times Prophecy’, by Dr. Timothy Paul Jones, Rose Publishing, 2011, 300 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-1596364196, $19.99
The Rose prophecy guide begins with Matthew 24:3 where the Apostles ask Jesus, "…when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?"
Jesus’s description of signs to look for include events we see featured on nightly news broadcasts, such as wars, famines and earthquakes, with the devastating Japanese tornado May 5, 2012 the most recent. Catastrophes like Japan’s devastating tsunami and Hurricane Katrina’s destruction of Louisiana have become so frequent and common ABC’s Diane Sawyer featured “Weird Weather Phenomena” in news broadcasts now available on YouTube: http://tinyurl.com/7j6s6t7
These and other events cause many to believe we are the end-times generation Jesus prophesied about, however, eschatology invites heated debate because of complex and differing viewpoints found in Scripture.
Timothy Paul Jones and company have composed a tremendous resource for one interested in eschatology in the work "Rose Guide to End-Times Prophecy." The book is beautifully laid out with smooth colorful pages. At first, the book appears that it is more of a reference manual than thorough reading, that is until one begins reading the book. Jones has wonderfully compiled a resource that explains the differences between amillennialists, postmillennialists, dispensational premillennialists, and historical premillennialists. Jones deals with the various interpretations concerning the Olivet Discourse and the book of Revelation. This is an absolutely wonderful book and I strongly recommend the work to anyone who seeks a greater understanding of the end-times. "Rose Guide to End-Times Prophecy" receives five strong stars in my book!!!
This is a must have for anyone interested in eschatology. The book is weightier than one would expect. It is beautifully designed and offers an abundance of color charts to help one decipher through the multiple theories on the end times. Again I say, this is a must have.
