Revealing Arithmetic: Math Concepts from a Biblical Worldview

Rate this book
For years, Christian math books have looked basically like secular textbooks, with the addition of a Bible verse here or there. Here, at last, is a book to help you transform your math class and show your child God's handiwork in math!

For more than a decade, Katherine has been researching, writing, and speaking on math, along with other topics. Her books on math and a biblical worldview have been used by various Christian colleges, homeschool groups, and individuals. Her short stories (found on www.ChristianPerspective.net) have reached around the world.

On a different note, she teaches piano, and enjoys baking (or should we say experimenting in the kitchen?), reading, and spending time with friends and family. She's dabbled in making videos, worked at a bakery, and been that weird girl who leaves a library with a stack of math books. Her favorite thing to do is to talk with people about God and His Word. After all, all our biographies will end with seeing Him face to face.

Revealing Arithmetic was a surprisingly great read! I found the content to be engaging and broken up well into a mix of explaining the concept, connecting it to scripture, and showing you real life application.

I really enjoyed how it went through every principle of elementary arithmetic. It is a valuable tool whether your child is just beginning school, or needs a refresher later in their school years. I will definitely continue to reference this book in the future as we learn new concepts.

Math is not my strong point, but this book has equipped me to feel more confident in teaching my kids math. In addition, I have a greater appreciation for math as a way to see God’s greatness. I think this is a great supplement for all parents, and a good read to help older kids see both math and God in new ways.

This book was an interesting textbook I had to read for my Christian university. I feel that this book is targeted towards parents or home-school teachers because it highlights many of the things that you can do with your child at home and how you can emphasize how God's goodness can be seen through mathematics. Math is not my favorite subject, but after reading this textbook I have gained a new perspective on mathematics. This book emphasized that we serve a faithful and consistent Creator and that God has given us the ability through mathematics to better understand the world that he created. Despite language differences and different methods to solve problems, math remains consistent, 1+1=2, because God has created it to be this way. I do believe that some of the scriptural references were somewhat of a stretch and some of it was repetitive, but it did open my eyes toward a biblical perspective on mathematics. This book also referred back to history and explained how other cultures solved common math problems that are different from my own Western teachings. As a teacher this is important because it can help you teach students how to find other ways to solving a problem. While the biblical examples and strategies for solving problems were useful, my favorite part of this book was the "ideas" sections in each chapter which provided suggestions for activities to do with your children to help them gain math concepts from a biblical worldview.

This is a nice introduction to the concept of Biblical Worldview integration in the math classroom.
