The story of a silenced minority who put their constitutional oaths before all else to keep our Founding Fathers' great gift of liberty alive.
Defending the Constitution Behind Enemy Lines is an explosive, tell-all book, detailing the military COVID-19 vaccine mandate, and the resistance to that mandate by service members who could not, in good conscience, go along. As an actively serving Navy Commander, Robert A. Green Jr. removes the veil of military secrecy and complexity to shed light on the related unlawfulness and the official cover-up being committed by certain DoD leaders. His deep dive into the current crisis details the harms perpetrated against service members and their families as well as the destruction of military readiness that resulted.
Standing upon his First Amendment rights, the first-time author analyzes the current crisis in light of the challenges faced by our Founding Fathers. His message to the American people is The crisis our military is facing will only be solved by following in the footsteps of our Founding Fathers and returning to an adherence to the Constitution that our forebears sacrificed everything to leave us.
As one who did not comply with the unlawful mandate and violation of religious liberties, I’ve struggled to succinctly describe what occurred the last two years in conversations. I’ve realized there’s too much there, and a book—this book—does a much better job of describing what happened and why it matters to any who will finish the book.
I enjoyed the relatively short chapters with catchy names like “Constitutional Tap Code” and other turns of phrase like “malicious retention.” Additionally, the historical parallels to our Founding, when a brave few stood upon conscience, prepared to bear the full weight of British anger and atrocity, are well done and apt.
The first three chapters or so provide necessary historical and legal context. Fight through them to get to the events of 2020-2023.
As someone that was affected by the mandate but gave into the pressure (and will forever regret it), this book is the voice for those that stood their ground and said no and got nothing but ridicule and punishment. It is also full of information in case anything like this is ever bought upon our military again.
OUTSTANDING !! As a military brat of a Navy 30 year veteran the knowledge that the command chain could act in such a fashion is beyond articulation. The purpose of our military is to defend our Constitution and our Country. It appears that much of the Brass has forgotten that. My anger, disgust and disappointment are total. No wonder we, as a nation are in such turmoil. EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK !
Disclaimer: I received an advance copy from CDR Green, who is one of my shipmates.
Did not mark "spoiler alert", because it's public knowledge how this ends. The real revelation here is how the U.S. government treats service members and tramples on the Constitution.
I'm going to start my review with a quote from the epilogue: "This book is meant to record our actions for posterity's sake so that the American people may know and understand why so many of us took the stand we took." Indeed, this book reads like a journal of the past three years. I can recall August of 2021 when we received the order to receive the "vaccine". It was surreal. The DoD is seriously ordering us to receive an emergency use authorization "vaccine", that has not passed through the normal trials, to prevent a virus that has >99% survival rate for military age men and women and most of us have natural immunity to anyways? My dad, who is a veterinarian, said they quit vaccinating dogs and cats for coronavirus because they all had it anyways and were asymptomatic!
I had a relatively easy fight. My religious exemption request was denied, I appealed the decision, and in a delicious twist of irony I never heard back from anyone. No denial, no final order to get the shot, no phone calls or emails, nothing. Unfortunately, Commander Green, everyone mentioned in this book, and countless unnamed others were not so fortunate. Careers and lives were ruined in the pursuit of a propping up a political narrative.
The larger message here is that our treatment revealed how the meritocracy has completely disappeared from senior military and civilian leadership. He points out that newly selected three-star admirals and generals are sent to a course where they are taught that the expectation is to close ranks against everyone below. Essentially, the government "of the people, by the people" is a quaint saying on an unimportant piece of paper. What is important is loyalty to each other to retain power. Shocking, but not surprising.
The book is written in a straight forward, narrative style in chronological order that intersperses facts with the author's feelings and thoughts as context. I would not expect such a solid effort from a first time author. I've read similar books and had to slog through them. This was not my experience here. This book was an absolute page turner from start to finish. I cannot recommend it strongly enough. With all the human interest stories woven throughout it is an easy and pleasant read for anyone even remotely affected by the "pandemic", even those who have no connection with the military. The vengeance, lies, wrath, and avarice displayed by the Department of Defense is just shocking.
It should be forcefully stated: were it not for their efforts, the lid would never have been blown off this scandal nor would the mandate have been rescinded. There was nothing stopping the federal government from continuing to treat the military as medical experimentation subjects in the tradition of the Tuskegee Airmen, Agent Orange, and Unit 731.
Ultimately, I view the whole ordeal as a blessing in disguise. This nightmare and stress of the political persecution deepened my faith and brought me closer to my brothers and sisters across all branches of the military. Exposing this corruption I believe will inspire a resurgence of patriotism and personal initiative. Thank you Commander Green for leading this fight.
An essential read for anyone who followed the military vaccine mandate saga and wants a response to talking points such as "you give up your rights when you join the military", "your job is just to follow orders", or "I got a million shots when I joined, why is this one any different". Commander Green clearly lays out the rights of Service Members, the obligations of Officers to ensure that the orders they are enforcing are lawful, and strong evidence both that the execution of the COVID vaccine mandate was not lawful and that Service members' constitutional rights were violated by the rubber-stamped denial of all religious exemption requests. While he necessarily includes a lot of legal detail, the book is well-written and framed as a story, interspersed with ideas and events from the time of our founding Fathers. Between the historical details and the personal stories of individual Service Members affected by the mandates, the book manages to stay engaging and is a fairly light read despite the heavy topic. The author also ends with a call to courage and faithfulness, rather than giving into despair or anger. Highly recommended for anyone looking to better understand or articulate the position of military "deniers".
