A Student Wants to Live #4

The War of the Clans

Rate this book

Yeah, I didn't enjoy Americans being the evil kidnapping cheating bad guys, but it's understandable why a Russian author would view Americans as the bad guys. But what really angered me was the large group of Chinese Americans begging to join Sangis in a war against the larger American group, saying all they wanted was the pleasure of murdering the other group of Americans.

Or how about where May warns him to be extra careful in Washington D.C. as the Black Mamba group's main city (named The Ghetto) is near there, and that the group are mainly "blacks" (their word) and that all "blacks" like all "latinos" hate white people so are likely to be more aggressive and attack him.

Or where mutated rats are attacking everyone and Andrew's group are the only ones killing them because even though everyone is being killed by them the Americans are all ignoring the rats or what about when Andrew comments about how the 4 main groups in America are split by race and that they are all idiots who are too busy fighting each other instead of fighting the mutated rats and that's why America will crumble and be conquered so quickly.

Needs editing, but its non-stop action

You can definitely tell English is not the author's primary language, and the cultural assumptions are somewhat skewed from an American perspective. That being said, having explored some of Russian culture during my years in the military, I think this is a fairly accurate hero's tale from that part of the world.

The decisions the main character makes are just slightly off from an American perspective, as they would be from that culture. More focus on family ties and personal loyalty than the standard altruistic tropes used by most Western Bloc writers.

I also enjoy the true feeling of absolute chaos in all the problems piling up one after another. I know how frustrating it can be in a wartime leadership position. You NEVER have time to address everything, and this story portrays this beautifully! Of course sometimes, two problems can become solutions of each other.

Book 4 was of A Student of Wants to Live. This book takes the series much darker and leaves us with more of a horror/LitRPG than previous books. The story takes us to America, however it should have been set in New York instead of DC, that one change would have made the America part a lot better. Be aware that the explicit language is much higher, especially during the America scenes. Overall, this was not my favorite book of the series as the overarching plot seems to be flagging somewhat. Not a bad novel outside of those items mentioned, we will see if this sagging overarching plot picks up the next novel.

Help me read more books

Well, as expected, there was plenty of beat down scenes in this one. There's some deserving characters who are still out there, but I'm sure there's plans to take care of that soon. There's also new problems (there always are), and one major gotcha with a rescued friend, but I'm sure these issues will be solved in the next book in the series. This is turning out to be a pretty good series all and all. Looking forward to the next one here.

This has become very repetitive.

It is the same story beat over and over. The betrayal is expected at this point, the group's going back I their word, the infighting, all of it is the a.k.a.thing as the last two books. This last entry was boring and at no point was it original. This series has run out of gas.

The War of the clans: book 4

Another past paced interesting book. The author must have some weird dreams to think of the different actions sequences. I look forward to the next book.

This was meh. I don't know if it's the translation, but this guy lucks his way into most of his victories. Then he struts around like he is big stuff. It got past the annoying stage.

I will see about a sequel. Doesn't really interest me though.

excellent continuation of the series

The author handles city management really well, and didn’t drag out one of the less desirable plot twists toward the end.

Much better than book 3

Don’t have much to say just that book 5 might make Andrew the strongest or at least top 5 across the planet.
