Kashan, the capital of the Lorilan Kingdom, still stands after surviving a siege against a million-strong Darktouched army and a gods damned Legendary Black Dragon.
Despite their massive win, the world of Halanor is still overrun by orcs, minotaurs, and even human Darktouched. The Emperor of Talna himself has turned to the Darkness, and Kashan is the last bastion of Light left in the world after the Protectorate abandoned them.
Calder is determined to banish the Darkness from Halanor and take back every single city that has fallen to the Dark. To do that, he must become a force to be reckoned with—a true powerhouse of unbridled destruction.
Hack, Slash & Burn is a medieval LitRPG fantasy series with portals to other worlds, different classes, stats, levels and spells.
If you've read the first two books of this great trilogy, this is a must-read. After the Soldiers of Light abandon the planet to the Darkness, Calder and his team must lead the people of Halador to fight for their very survival. They must take back the other cities if they want to survive, but that means building up their army and leveling everyone up. Doing so raises the strength of their troops but slows down the advancement of the higher leveled fighters. With the fate of the entire planet on his shoulders, what is Calder willing to compromise and sacrifice for their very survival?
A solid finish to the series. Overall, I retain my original statement that this series is the LitRPG equivalent of a classic American diner. There wasn't much in this series that was revolutionary, but it was a solid story with solid characters and a solid plot. The pacing was decent and I never felt like things were dragging needlessly.
I did feel the ending was a wee bit too trite, but that's a small nit on an otherwise solid series.
Rather enjoyed the story characters and plot. . . . . . . . . . . .
. . . .. . Spoiler space
However was kind of disappointed in what I think is a major prot hole, as far as I recollect nuclear bombs are extremely hard to get to go off and you don't get secondary nuclear explosions from using a bit of c4. The worst you get is turning them into dirty bombs and spread the plutonium as fallout over an area.
While this deserves the 5 stars I gave it and there is a satisfying ending for the MC, I feel that the supporting characters were cheated out of a proper ending and some story lines were left with still open questions. The book states it's the end of the trilogy. I enjoyed the entire series, so I hope there will be more stories set in this world.
4.5 stars. Closes out the series well, even if the very end seemed rushed. Not that I think it would have benefited from being dragged out, but it still gave that "ok, let's wrap it up" feeling. I do like how only the very important fight scenes were extensive, but even they weren't the marathons that you'll see in other books.
There is nothing about the story or the direction the characters take. This is a very simple story, told in a very simple style. When you do that, you have to get everything right. Well I think this is five stars, so make of that what you
