“Check this series out. You won’t regret it.” —SKTCHD
Last year’s breakout horror series returns!
Trudy’s past comes back to haunt her, which wouldn’t be so bad if she and Gabby weren’t already literally haunted by unimaginable forces of evil on a daily basis. Can’t a gal catch a break?
This book comes roaring back with issue #6 and the start of a new arc. I feel like the first arc did a lot of set-up work — establishing the characters and the many threats haunting the ranch — and now we’re all primed for a focused storyline that explores the horrors of Trudy’s past refracted through the funhouse mirror of her horrifying present.
There are some nice character moments between Gabby and Trudy - the Help Spider fight is fun and rewarding, showing how both have grown and adapted to their new life. And, like a well-paced horror movie, these fun moments are balanced against some truly heart-stopping beats. Trudy’s dad is very scary.
Artyom Topilin has taken it up another level on the art, too. He feels comfortable with these characters, and now he’s letting loose some stunning panels and pages.
The pacing of the story is starting to catch up with them…
I feel like this book is just pedal to the floor wild at this point. This issue was very intense but I’m not sure if it was good? It was super violent. Some of the conversations were weak: “I’m a bonker, I bonk things” being the best/worst of it. Also I’m mad Gabby opened the door. Trudy being protective of her and suddenly strangers are coming up the drive way during the time of night when the hauntings are at their worst?? Doesn’t feel accurate. I’m a little surprised how fast things are moving with Trudy’s dad. I also have no idea where this story is going but that is actually quite fun.
