Although this may seem to some as just another fairytale for children, this is one of my favourite tales to read, one which nearly brought me to tears while travelling home after a night out in london at 5 in the morning. Perhaps, yes, it was due to the lack of sleep and (for once) moderate drinking, but the underlying message in the tale is still relevant today as it is ever. The story of not fitting in, being ridiculed, those deeming themselves better than others, abuse, vulnerability, a lack of belonging. Yet through it all holding a sense of dignity, of grace, of not judging those that are so quick to judge you. And through it all, when all sense of help is gone, justice is served and all that is desired and more is granted, you do not lose your grace and do not forget what you have suffered. A short tale for anyone, it's certainly something for those who have started to lose faith or those who have forgotten their morals.
A beautiful little children's book, that nearly everyone has read or at least heard the story of. It is a shame that you don't appreciate it until you're older and can understand the meaning.
The idea that a bullied, ugly little duckling can one day turn into a magnificant swan, whilst other ducklings just become average ducks, was simply another story to me as a child, but now that I'm older and recognise the meaning behind it, the story seems all that more wonderful!
All children should be read this book, so that they can understand too, when they are old enough, that even if they feel ugly, lonely and bullied like the little duckling, they can overcome that and be a beautiful swan, more brilliant than those who picked on them.
This book tells the classic story of the ugly duckling who struggled early in life, but persevered through his problems and became a beautiful swam. This book is more reliant on illustrations then content. I thought the author did a great job of having the illustrations help tell the story. I would recommend this book for lower education (k-2).
The Ugly Duckling is a basic story about a duckling who is made fun of because he did not look as pretty as the other ducks but in the end turned into a beautiful swan. This is a great book to read to children because it shows the moral which is to not judge a book by it's cover.
This is an overall good book for elementary aged students. It has a great storyline that students can follow and has a strong message behind it that students can relate to through the animal characters.
This classic tale is always a good one. It gives a great story about self-acceptance. The book could help a lot of kids with their confidence levels and help them learn to accept themselves for who they are. I always enjoy reading this story.
