Stories about Christmas balls, the angel at the top of the tree, a star, an elf toy, a ballerina figure, and other Christmas ornaments reveal the memories of Christmases past that go into decorating the tree.
For any Lewis Carroll devotee and art appreciator, this book is for you! The Art of Alice in Wonderland is a mesmerizing tribute to the visual evolution of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. This book explores the many artistic interpretations of Carroll’s beloved tale, from the earliest illustrations by John Tenniel to modern reimaginings in film, fashion, and contemporary art.
Packed with stunning imagery, the book highlights how different artists have captured the whimsy, darkness, and surreal charm of Wonderland over the years. It’s a fascinating journey through time, showing how Alice’s world has been endlessly reinvented. While it doesn’t delve deeply into Carroll’s life, it’s an absolute treasure for those who appreciate the artistic legacy of his work.
Hardback. The book is an analysis of the Alice in Wonderland story with lots of artwork from various illustrators. The main problem with the book is the way it is printed. The informational material is printed over artwork. In some cases this works but in most cases it makes it difficult to read the written material. That's a pet peeve of mine in books. I like to be able to read fairly easily what is written and not have to try to mentally block out various distracting elements.
As to the artwork itself, whether or not a particular piece of art is good or not is really up to the individual, at least in my opinion. I like a lot of the artwork in the book, especially since there is such a variety of it. On the other hand there are a number of pieces that I really don't care for.
I really think that the book would have been much better if the written material had been placed in one area and the artwork either interspersed among the written pages or put in a section of its own.
i love this book so much i bought two copies so i could flip through one til it falls apart. a great collection of various interpretations of alice as well as weird alice themed adverts for products not even remotely associated with the story. the chapters also feature great essays about the various themes of both alice books.
