I am Seraphine LaLande, VooDoo Priestess! Well, not quite. In order to be a priestess I have to first successfully raise a zombie, make it do my bidding, and then tuck it back in for the eternal dirt nap it was supposed to have to begin with. Of course, being me, things don’t go according to plan. The trouble all started when my zombie ran off into the night...
This is a short story, the first in a series of young adult, fantasy short stories entitled, The VooDoo Follies!
Christine M. Butler writes under several pen names. The Christine M. Butler name is being retired in 2023 and all books will be shifted to publication under Christine Michelle and/or Anne Storm.

I wasn't sure what to expect - voodoo and zombies are not my usual genre. And who would've thought the priestess would have a sense of humor and be a lot like you and me? That's how the author, Christine Butler, got me hooked! Okay, if I'm specific, it would give away too much of the story and you must experience it yourself.
Now, remember, I'm reading this book in the middle of the afternoon on a hot, stifling summer day and the sun is shining bright. With that in mind, there were times when I felt like someone or some thing was creeping up behind me or lurking down the darkened hallway. Chills spread across my shoulders - the sort that lingers awhile. No, I didn't shout, "Come out; come out, wherever you are!" But I was thinking that maybe the ceremonial 'dance' in the book might not have taken …
The first in a series? I’m looking forward to reading it - with the back of my chair against a wall … It’s times like these when the old expression, “one dark day in the middle of the night,” takes on a whole new meaning …
I am not your typical "Zombie" fan but that is why this short story appealed to me. I wanted to get a taste of what Zombie stories are like. And if this story is any indication I think I will enjoy more Zombie and the magic of voodoo type stories. Certainly from this author. I'm pretty sure I will read this entire series as it comes out.
What I liked: The protagonist has a sense of humor and is as human as a human who can raise a Zombie can get. But not only does the main character have an interesting POV but we get to also enjoy the story from the Zombie's POV, an intereting take, I think. Then there is this sort of side kick character which befuddles me but adds intrigue. I get the feeling there is more to come from that one.
All in all, a newbie voodoo priestess raises a Zombie, then loses it no thanks to her friend. You also get the Zombie's POV (humourous and interesting) and a neat little ending. A fun read. Look forward to the others.
Excellent Short Story! Can't wait for the rest in this series!
The Source was exactly what I expected it to be (after reading the blurb) and MUCH MUCH MORE! What a great story in such a small package. It made for a quick, funny lunch break read, and by the end I wanted more! Seraphine had me giggling at her inexperience with magic, and her efforts to make things right. I found myself hoping that she would go against what she knew was the right thing to do, to get herself into more trouble. I can't wait to read the next one in this short story series.
Short story about a beginning Voodoo priestess. May turn out okay if you can read the rest of the stories. Typical ebook errors: lose/loose, for example, as well as exercise for exorcise and bowel for bowl.
