William James Bouwsma was an American scholar and historian of the European Renaissance. He was Sather Professor of History Emeritus at the University of California Berkeley and president of the American Historical Association (AHA) in 1978.
Absolutely stellar book that is a great resource for understanding the Serenissma’s contributions to political thought, ecclesiology, and larger conflicts between conscience and law and Church and State. Not a light read by any means, but could serve well as foundations for student of early modern political theory who is interested in relevant topics.
