1. Concept
2. Wordless book that displays different signs that can be seen on store-fronts, sidewalks, or streets.
3. A - Great authentic images of signs that children can see all the time. It helps them realize the value of signs, and familiarize themselves with common signs they may see daily.
B- The strong points of this book are the authentic pictures, and the fact that there are no words. Parents and teachers can take the time to discuss the signs with children, and talk about what they mean. It is a positive book because children will grasp the importance of the messages these signs tell us. Very appropriate because it reiterates practicing safety.
C- I am going to use two examples to show the range of the signs that were used in the book. One page was of a sign that reads “Open Sundays 12am-6pm”. This can lead to conversation about what the sign tells us, why we read it, and where we can find them. Another example is the page with a picture of a Bus Only lane. This can lead to a conversation about safety, and why it is important to pay attention to the signs.
4. Teachers can certainly tie this into class discussions about safety within the community. One thing I noticed about this particular book, these are images of signs that are more likely to be seen around a city. Students in rural areas may not recognize as many of the signs as students in an urban setting.
