Annalisa inherits a run-down estate in Menorca, Spain, from the father she never knew. She hopes to fix it up and live there, and to make the orange groves productive again. Only problem is, her handsome neighbor Ramon also has his sights on her land. It’s not long till Ramon has his sights set on Annalisa, as well.
This was a cute, sweet, and sexy romance. Annalisa and Ramon made a wonderful couple who were perfect for each other. I really liked the helpful villagers who so readily helped Annalisa with her estate and orange groves. I loved Annalisa’s adorable old dog, Fudge, who she pretty much inherited along with the estate. I thought the ending of the story was just lovely. Such a charming read.
Heroine Annalisa inherits a large but run-down estate in Spain after the death of the father she never really knew. There she meets gorgeous neighbor Ramon who is interested in buying the estate.
I really enjoyed this book. The story was slow sometimes, no big angst-fest, but there were many things I liked: the wonderful hero Ramon, Annalisa's Spanish neighbors who pitched in and helped her fix up her run-down estate, the sexy love scenes, and Annalisa’s cute dog Fudge!
3 1/2 Stars ~ When Annalise inherits an orange grove in Spain from a father she had never met, she has mixed feelings. The estate has been neglected, the buildings in desperate need of repair, the villa with open holes in the roof; yet Annalise finds peace and she quickly reconsiders her decision to sell. Her neighbour Ramon, is a powerful man and was once her father's business partner. He was bidding for her land, but now that she's vowed to make the grove productive again, he's willing to barter. He wants her beach for a marina, and she needs the water that she can only get from his lands. Her solicitor advises her to be cautious of Ramon, so Annalise remains guarded when he attempts to befriend her. She can't deny that his attraction to her is very strong, but she fights it all the way, believing Ramon to be married with a very young daughter.
I'm not usually a fan of Susan Stephens romances, but this one, her debut, is actually quite well done. I really liked Annalise, she's strong and not afraid of hard work. Ramon totally disarms her; she's never sure if he's the bad guy or her white knight. It's obvious from their first meeting that Annalise sparks an interest in Ramon, and as the story progresses he keeps on helping her in ways to ensure she is safe and comfortable; he needs to protect her. While the writing does have a bit of a lag midway, Ms. Stephens does pull it together for a lovely HEA.
This is a sweet story. I lovd all the characters especially Ramon. He supported Annalisa throughout. He is not pig-headed or stubborn to show his love. Thats what I love in Susan's story. sweet heroes
I had a hard time getting through this book. My issue was the h.
She was raised by a single mum who worked and sacrifice to care for her. After the death of her mum she learned her Spanish father left her his estate. A trip to his country to sell the estate made her realize that she wanted to know more about him and her Spanish heritage.
She fell in love with the house and began refurbishing it. She also met her next door neighbor, the H. He was harsh and cold towards her and had every intention of buying her property. Until she decided that she wasn’t going to sell and would live there.
While reading, I felt lost through most of the story. I didn’t connect with the characters. The h is supposed to be a lawyer but acts like she has no logical sense. She views everything through her emotions.
I never felt there was any connection between the h and the H. There were no sparks. No heat. No sexiness. I couldn’t care less if they got together or not. And the h had her head stuck so deep into her past, she couldn’t see what was in front of her eyes.
I did feel badly for the H who did all her could to help her, but she did not appreciate it. She assumed that her father abandoned her mother and left them to live in poverty. That was far from the truth. But even when she learned the truth, she still did not trust the H to have her best interests in mind. She was ridiculous.
What I loved about the book was the people of the town who were happy to work from free to help her bring the estate and orange groves back to health in honor of her father. And to insure future jobs.
I dragged on to finish this book. I wanted to put it down and walk away. But I finished it and it was ok. Not stellar, just meh.
A truly great premise, a fabulous hero, well written, but with an utterly unsympathetic, miserable, suspicious heroine who got up my nose, right up until the last chapter when she finally got the proof she obviously needed, that the hero was a good guy and had always been trying to help her.
AnnaLisa’s continuous, unremitting hostility towards Ramon and her inability or unwillingness to trust him: her constant suspicion about him and his motives, turned me off completely.
I just wanted Ramon to say ‘enough is enough, I give up.’
As for the wicked stepmother and the chauffeur lover - that just made me want to laugh. This author has written some very entertaining and enjoyable stories but sadly this wasn’t one of them! Not my cup of tea.
I didn't really care for this book because it was way too boring and the whole villain totally needed to die. She was an evil bitch from hell. Everything else was kind of a mess in my opinion.
