Workaholic, Maeve Burgundy, avoids any relationship where she might fall in love. She's forced by her best friend to take a vacation she won to the exotic Sodom Resort. They specialize in turning any erotic fantasy into reality-Virtual Reality. What Maeve doesn't know is that Angel, the owner of the Resort and her old college boyfriend, has rigged the contest in an effort to reconnect with Maeve. He wants to persuade her to become part of a committed ménage à trois with his best friend and lover, Luke.
The two men have to figure out how to pierce the thick armor around her heart and open her to their love. Maeve meets Angel-in disguise- during her first erotic fantasy in VR. They connect right away and Maeve promises to spend the rest of her fantasies with him, as long as he reveals who he is in real life at the end of her vacation. During her second fantasy, Luke joins them and Maeve realizes she isn't in danger of falling in love with one amazing man, but two.
Luke warns Angel that they may lose Maeve because of his deception, but Angel will take any chance to win Maeve back and convince her how good a loving ménage à trois can be.
Ann is Queen of the Castle to her wonderful husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she's been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead(though she will deny to her children that it ever happened).
From a young age she's been fascinated by myths and fairytales, and the romance that often was the center of the story. As Ann grew older and her hormones kicked in, she discovered trashy romance novels. Great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she's never looked back.
Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her 'sexy space' and has learned to type one handed while soothing a cranky baby.
This is my first story from Ms. Mayburn. It's a great start! All I could think of was, I live in the Detroit area. Where the HELL is this place??? I wanna go!!! My official review has to be approved by TRR first. Until then, all I can say is ... GO BUY THIS BOOK! READ IT! It's tasty.
UPDATE - Review up now My official review on The Romance Reviews.
Enter into any fantasy you chose. Do you want to be an astronaut? How about a pirate? Or, is your dirty little fantasy to be a harem girl trying to catch the eye of the sultan? SODOM AND DETROIT is not to be confused with Sodom and Gomorrah. Sodom is a resort equipped with virtual reality machines in Detroit, of all places, catering to each guest's personal fantasies.
Workaholic Maeve is a special guest since she's a contest winner to this high tech resort. However, what she didn't know was that the contest is a fake as the owner, Angel and his lover Luke, wanted her at the resort. Maeve and Angel share a history that hurt Maeve to the point where she's afraid of relationships. Unknowingly, Maeve is reunited with Angel in the VR fantasies she and Luke design. When the truth is revealed, Maeve throws a hissy fit and melts down.
This is the only part of the story I couldn't really get into or understand. Maeve clings to an old wound that is well over a decade old. Her emotional trauma so to speak wasn't even that major from my perspective. Her extreme negative reaction makes me think less of her. For a self-made woman who is well respected and strong, this flaw in her attitude is unrealistic for me. It makes me think less of her and unworthy of the two hunks vying for her love and attention.
The role-playing in the virtual reality world was fantastic. I enjoyed the scenes and the sex was hot. The f/f scene definitely aroused me. I tend to enjoy well-written scenes, regardless of the genders involved. This story had a little bit of everything I enjoyed as far as partners and sex. Reading about this resort, the first thing I wanted to know is, where is this resort? I live in the Detroit area and I want to find this place! I recommend this book to romance lovers who enjoy role-playing fantasies. If you enjoy ménage, this is a book for you.
If I have to pick a book with drippy vagainas...I definitely need to have 2 d*cks that play with each other! lol
The idea of this story was pretty good. A virtual reality resort...you get to enjoy in what ever fantasy you may have. Pretty Cool.
The Men (Luke & Angel) were definitely drool-worthy...sexy, confidant, in charge, all things I like in my men! Can they convince Maeve that she will be the perfect woman to make up their ménage à trois.
If you could build your perfect virtual lover, what would he or she look like? My man would be tall, dark haired, well built in ALL ways. If you could fulfill your wildest fantasies, what would they be? Head to Detroit and find out!
Detroit has become the virtual reality capital of the world. Boasting nineteen resorts for every taste and desire, it is now the place to go for adventurous people worldwide. Maeve is on her way to Sodom, the world’s largest five star VR resort. She has won an all expense paid vacation for four days. Unknown to Maeve, she is on her way to reconnect with a man that shattered her heart. His plan is easy. Seduce Maeve into loving him again. The hard part is getting her to fall in love with his lover too.
Maeve Burgundy has it all or so she believes. She has a successful career, a great best friend and countless lovers. In the past, she has allowed men into her life and they have stomped her heart to pieces. Never again will she allow that to happen. Hard working and determined Maeve will have all she wants in life and what she doesn’t want…is a man.
Angel regrets throwing Maeve’s love away from the very beginning. Rejected at every turn, Angel moved on but never forgot his first love. Now he is a wealthy man with an amazing lover, but he wants more. After seeing Maeve on TV, he is determined to win her back into his life. Angel and Luke work together to seduce Maeve into their bed and hearts.
The passion is nonstop in this novella. While there is some sex interaction, it is brief and used well within the plotline. That is the same with the spanking, flogging and voyeurism. The activities were lightly used and essential to the story.
I really enjoyed this story! It was a perfect length, extremely well paced and it was even believable. Maeve’s fantasies were fun-filled and hot scenes. I’m very happy with the ending. While some authors in short stories just end with all is forgiven and they live happily ever after, Ms. Mayburn ends Sodom and Detroit in a more realistic fashion. Hurt, pain and tears are present, but with a bit of time and groveling the men break down Maeve’s defenses and win her back
Bravo Ms. Mayburn! I ended up finishing the book with a great big smile on my face and a cold shower.
Who wouldn't jump at the opportunity of an all expenses paid trip to the hottest virtual reality resort to spend a week having your every fantasy come to life? DUH. I'm so there. But, Maeve gets a lot more than what she bargained for. Oh, she gets the fantasy, oh boy, does she, but she also gets an opportunity to have the love she so desperately needs.
Maeve is the stereotypical single, female, with a high powered job in New York. She is the director of acquisitions for a company and works way too hard. She was burned once by the man she loved and swore she would never love again. Maeve doesn't have relationships, she has sex, when she has the time. Her secret love, these days, is sexy lingerie which helps to remind her she is a sexy woman. Angel is the owner of Sodom Resort, one of the largest virtual reality resorts in the world. He also used to be Rafe, Maeve's first boyfriend who hurt her so badly. Angel has regretted that time and the decisions both he and Maeve made for a long time. When he sees her on an interview on CNN, he knows she is the woman for a long-term ménage with Angel and his best friend and lover, Luke. Convincing Maeve of this might not be so easy, though.
Maeve's incredibly hot virtual fantasies begin and she's amazed at the detail and how real everything seems. In this world she can let go of her emotional insecurities because none of this is really reality, it is only virtual reality, where she can not be hurt. Her first fantasy is as a harem girl and the sheik, unbeknownst to Maeve, is Angel. And, once again, can I just say, sign me up for erotic, hot sex in virtual reality. I'm there! Her second fantasy is Angel, again, but this time he added Luke, and they're highwaymen who rob her coach. Well, they take something, but it isn't her coach. *grins*
When Angel finally reveals himself and tells Maeve that he and Luke both want her for a long-term committed ménage relationship, Maeve is shocked. Angel (Rafe) hurt her so badly when she was younger, she's almost afraid to trust him again. It was fun and sexy watching them work it out. I enjoyed this short read and if you like ménage, then you should pick this up.

Sodom and the Phoenix by Ann Mayburn Paranormal Romance –Jan. 30th, 2012 5 stars
Sodom and the Phoenix is the second (following Sodom and Detroit) in the author’s captivating Virtual Seduction series for Loose ID.
Ann Mayburn takes on the story of OB nurse Tanwen Evans and Bryan Hamilton, the Dom she falls hard for. Tanwen is just getting out of a 20-year marriage and her fragile self-confidence is at an all-time low when she decides to vacation at Sodom, the largest virtual-reality vacation resort in the Midwest. She’s expecting to do a little experimenting with role-playing and BDSM, but only with computers. But what she doesn’t know is that her travel-agent friend has booked her into the resort during a week when Leather Kiss, a BDSM convention, is scheduled (It seems Tanwen had a bit of a memory lapse after one too many drinks on a cruise, and didn’t remember telling her friend about her fantasies of being tied up and spanked.)
As Tanwen checks in, she runs right into Bryan — a dead ringer for her celebrity crush, Anderson Cooper, and an organizer of the convention. Bryan, whose beloved wife and submissive Katie died several years ago, has been marking time with pretty but vacuous subs until he falls hard for the efficient and practical Tanwen. Tanwen’s bad marriage – prompted by a teenage pregnancy — has made her gun-shy about getting involved with anyone, and Bryan makes her feel things she's frightened by: after all, she's never explored the BDSM lifestyle, and how can she fall in love with a dom who lives several states away? Bryan is also scared: no one has made him feel much of anything other than sexual pleasure since Katie died — and Tanwen burrows into his heart almost immediately. As the two explore their relationship, they’re forced to face the fears they’ve been ignoring, and made to decide if the potential for forever is worth the possible pain of giving up long-held beliefs.
Mayburn’s evocative prose takes the reader deep into Tanwen’s insecurity and pain and the joy she feels as Bryan pushes her limits – both emotional and sexual. As well, Bryan’s fears and feelings are beautifully illustrated.
While billed as a BDSM fantasy/alternate reality novel, Mayburn makes the virtual reality scenario so believable and detailed that it's hard not to think that this technology is in the mainstream — making it read like a contemporary erotic romance. This story's compelling plot, studded with red-hot sex scenes, will leave the reader hot and bothered – and rooting for Bryan and Tanwen all the way through. I highly recommend it!

This was a nice, medium-length smexy story. I wouldn't mind a vacation like that... virtual reality sex resort. I understand why Angel/Rafe had to lie to Maeve, and I understand why she was so pissed off about it, but I wonder what might have happened if he'd just been honest with her. If he went to her hometown, tracked her down, made her have dinner with him (and Luke) -- he *can* be quite persuasive! Granted, it might not have been such an interesting story, but the lies wouldn't be between them, right? The fantasies were kinda hot... interesting that the people involved that she didn't know found her in real life and continued their play. Well I suppose it was just the harem girl and then Luke. Sexy bunch they all were! Story ended on an HEA, so never fear, Angel figures out how to get her to forgive them. Cute story.
Sodom in Detroit was not as bad as I worried it might be, based on such an atrocious title, but except for secondary characters, it was a fairly bland read. The blurb caught my attention because of I liked the idea of the Virtual reality club, but it fell a bit flat and I never really got all that caught up in the characters, possibly because it was just a short story? Not sure, it just seemed a little underdeveloped. I liked that the two men were in a committed relationship, but I was never really convinced they needed a female third. Also not a huge fan of F/F scenes, but that's my personal taste, so I didn't want to reduce the rating for something like that. I would rate this more of a 3.5, but there was no real reason to round down, so I rolled it up.
Overall: I want this place to be real, WTF!! This was such a fun and exciting read. Each fantasy got more and more thrilling. The characters also emotions, wants and needs felt very real, which i really enjoyed. My only compliant is i wish we got to read more about them because i feel like they would have such a hot and lusty relationship with so many possibilities.
Characters: Owners Angel (Rafe) , Luke & Workaholic and Heartbroken Maeve
Page Turner: You'll be frantically turning the pages, wishing this place could be real.
I seriously need a giant glass of ice water after reading this uber hot and erotic story. I want a Virtual Reality resort so I could have just a fraction of the fun that Maeve did. Seriously, she's one lucky lady
Angel and Luke are hot bisexual men who love each other and want to worship Maeve, and man do they! The whole premise was well thought out and well written, and Ms. Mayburn can write some seriously smexy sex!
If you want hot sex, a believable back story that let's fantasy run wild, then you need to read this story now!
Sodom and Detroit is spectacular! I loved the virtual reality aspect of the book. Maeve's lingerie obsession is funny due to her controlling nature and sexy at the same time! Rafe and Luke have sexabilities! All three had amazing chemistry. The scenerios set up in the virtual reality are some of most womens fantasize about.
I hope this turns into a series. I would like to see some of the supporting characters have some fun. Come on, It's virtual reality and anything can happen.
4.5 Stars for really hot love scenes (including one f/f scene that normally would be "meh" for me, but was hot in this setting), a creative plot that includes a virtual reality world, and three characters who each in their own way were super sexy. Yes, I balked a little at Mave's anger when she found out her one of her virtual reality partners were, it was predictable as a plot device, but that was just a little blip in my enjoyment of this great story. Loved it!
The VR aspect and the imagination of bring it into the story pushed this to a 4-star book. It’s a cute story but the smut factor overshadows the story portion... not that it’s a bad thing. Just didn't feel like I really knew that chars as much as I'd like. Even in the end Luke still felt so much like a stranger. Still, a good hot read.
The only reason I read this was 'cause it was short and I could add another book to my bookshelf. Unfortunately for me, I still hate ménage and same gender sex, so I didn't really enjoy this book. I skimmed through most of it (since the content isn't exactly 15-yr old appropriate) but the romance part was sweet, if very short.
I’ll be honest, I bought this one for the title. It amused me. Strange premise - Detroit has become the top destination for VR vacations. Which is the flimsy premise to get the heroine and two heroes together. Lots of sex scenes, pretty good ones. Overall? Ok.
This was a good book about past loves finding each other again. The journey is a little bumpy but I loved the virtual reality concept. The only flaw is that the characters good be a bit more developed and the ending seems rushed and abrupt.
This book makes me long for virtual reality technology to boom, like now!! Could you imagine? Any fantasy. All of the pleasure, none of the consequences. This book was filled with wild, sensual pleasure from beginning to end. I will definitely be reading this again.
Good story and plot ideas but it ended very abruptly. Would have been nice to have a bit of a conclusion to the relationship and more emotion when things came together in the end.
