"Hannah." Wyatt's deep voice from behind her smashed into her. "I'm waiting."
Her skin caught fire. How much had he overheard? She turned and found his eyes focused on her with that laser-like, unwavering and unnerving way of his. His foreboding expression twisted her nerves like hay in a baler.

Someone learned the "no vapid verbs, only vivid verbs!" a little too well. There was a lot of "slamming," "punching" and "smashing" going on in this book. My daughter and I thought about making a drinking game out of the violent verbs and mixed metaphors the author employed, but then decided I'm such a light-weight I'd be drunk after only a few pages. The book is so impossibly overwritten it's funny. Try reading it aloud to someone. I dare you to keep a straight face.

All that aside, Wyatt is a jerk of the first order and no amount of 11th hour repentance can save his selfish, self-serving butt. His treatment of Hannah was nothing compared to his cold-hearted imprisonment of his step-father with Alzheimer's.

For her part Hannah's pampered and entitled attitude was almost equally irritating. But worse still was her decision to try to win Mr. Arrogant with lurve, going so far as (indulging in irrational thought and great stupidity, for those who don't want to read the spoiler).

Before I address how much I hated the story, the setting, and the characters in Her Tycoon to Tame, I have to say something about the writing. Emilie Rose has a bewildering talent for making nice things, like kisses, sound completely nauseating. Take this brief passage, for example:

He hooked a hand behind her nape as swiftly as a striking snake. His mouth slammed over hers and he took, greedily, aggressively mashing his lips against hers and ravaging her tongue with his.

Maybe some girls go for bruised lips and stubble burn, but that just doesn't sound very comfortable to me. I'm also curious as to how one "ravages" a tongue, particularly when one is using one's own tongue to do the ravaging. Maybe his tongue has jagged edges.

Hannah and Wyatt are annoying to read about even when they aren't making me retch due to their "chemistry" (which Hannah mentally compares to "the rare magical winning combination of a champion mare-stud combo" - because that's romantic). There is nothing to like about either of these characters. Hannah is shallow, weak-willed, and immature. I lost any ability to respect her early on during this revealing conversation with her father:

"I won't always be here to support you, Hannah. It's time you learned to take care of yourself."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm cutting you off."
Shock followed by a chaser of panic sent her staggering backward. "What do you mean?" she repeated.
"I will no longer support you or your lost causes."
"Why? What did I do? How will I survive?"
"You'll have to learn to live on your salary."

Oh, the poor thing! No, really, my heart bleeds for the rich veterinarian who has the perfect body, designer clothes, jewelry, antique furniture, a picturesque cottage, and a frivolous, expensive car. How could her daddy be so cruel to her?

Remarkably, Wyatt manages to be even less likeable than Hannah. He is such an unbelievably coldhearted bastard that I keep expecting him to twirl a pair of overlong mustachios and start cackling Snidely Whiplash-style. There is no way that any girl with even a particle of sense could fall in love with someone who is this innately evil. Conveniently, Hannah has no sense whatsoever, so she decides to save Wyatt as if he were some abused animal instead of just a self-serving asshole.

Wyatt's step-father, Sam, is likeable enough, but he doesn't sound like any Alzheimer's patient I've ever heard of. I'm not a doctor, and I am no expert on Alzheimer's, but my limited experience with Alzheimer's patients does not match the author's description of Sam's symptoms. According to my understanding, Alzheimer's is a progressive disease. Its symptoms tend to grow steadily worse over time rather than coming and going randomly. Although most patients have good days and bad days, Sam's wild fluxuations between moments of complete lucidity and complete forgetfulness, to the point where he becomes a danger to himself, just do not sound right. I feel like Emilie Rose should have done more research on this subject. It seems like she knows a lot more about horse farms than she does about Alzheimer's disease.

Speaking of horse farms, I have a piece of advice for authors who think it's a great idea to set their romances on farms of any variety. There's a reason why so many of us choose to live within or near town limits. It's because farm life just isn't that interesting. And I think it's safe to say that not many of us find horse semen intriguing. I believe I speak for a lot of readers when I say that I don't want to hear a stallion's ejaculate described as "liquid gold," or as anything else, for that matter. That was not a great way to get me in the mood for the steamy scenes towards the end of the book, believe me.

In conclusion, very few books have managed to elicit the violent hatred that Her Tycoon to Tame inspired in me. I'm afraid that the horrors of this novel are permanently seared into my memory. And I will never cease to curse Emilie Rose for giving her inane heroine my name. So please don't read this book. Especially if your name is Hannah.

I really liked the story, but I just didn't like the hero all that much.

Well... normally I don't read harlequin novels because they are just too fast for me... I don't mind reading some lengthy story as long as it makes sense.

This one started really good. Hanna is working her dream of a care center for horses, with some success until Wyatt buys the whole thing from her dad and changes everything for her.

Hanna fights to show the value of her work, while Wyatt is full of prejudices against her because he thinks she is a pretty spoiled rich girl.

Until then everything is fine... more or less around page 100 everything was going fine... feisty conversations, Wyatt always in the "I am your boss and you should obey" kind of alpha stuff...

However... I do not understand how Hanna could fall for such a guy like Wyatt that humiliates and treats her like dirt every time he can. I did not like him. There was nothing that really appealed to me about him, as he was not only arrogant but frankly abusive.

I liked that Hanna spoke her mind every time... however, 20 pages before the end, he makes his indicent proposal and she accepts! Why? I have no idea! The guy slept with her and then dumped her almost two minutes after he was finished with her.... and she falls for him?
Hmmm... I did not get that...
and two pages before the finish, he fired her, accuse her of every bad thing in the world, and suddenly he realizes that he loves her and wants her in his life.. and she says yes?

I would have loved that she threw his offer to his face and goes away.. even if it was for five pages and then reconcile after... but at least stood up for herself.. rather than bending over with a smile.

THIS is why some of the harlequin stories fall short.. but well.. overall the story had great promise.

Hannah Sutherland lives on Sutherland horse farms with her father. She is a veterinarian at the farm. Wyatt Jacobs buys the farm from her father without Hannah's knowledge. Her father wants to start a different life and had always felt that the horsefarm was his wife's dream and not especially his. She has passed now and he needs to move on. He also wants Hannah to develop some independence and to be able to care for herself without the use of all his money. Wyatt agrees to keep Hannah on as in the sale contact for one year. He is constantly threatening to fire her and that got a bit on my nerves after a while. I also got tired of how mean he seemed to be and it wasn't very believable to me. I still enjoyed the book though and it was easy to read. 4

awful one ! very very awful. i did not care abt either of them. i was bored beyond my skull. der was no chemistry, no attraction..felt nthng here. hannah was a spoiled lil rich girl who cared only abt horses n spent large amounts of money 2 satisfy a whim of hers. it's not dat i have no sympathy towards the horses but it's so far-fetched 2 spend unlimited funds on damaged horses when we have people dying around the world. her father sold the farm bcoz he did not want 2 go on like dat. wyat was the lucky buyer who had no intention of staying but only 2 abandon his stepfather der. he was so cold , did not betray any feelings n i dunno how at the end he realised out of the blue he was in love with hanna. wid hanna's body maybe:P lol !

finally, an HP that i really enjoyed.. the only big sour note for me came because of the heroine's father, who unknownst to the heroine sells the family home/business out from under her with NO explanation or warning whatsoever; only towards the end of the book does the reader learn his half-azzed motivation, and i still think his reasoning was pretty thin. the hero was not the most likeable man in the world, but we eventually learn his reasons for remaining uninvolved. i'd probably give it a 3.5 star rating, and it would have been a 4 if the dad's motivation had been better explained
