Jen Lin-Liu is the author of Serve the People: A Stir-Fried Journey Through China and the founder of the cooking school Black Sesame Kitchen in Beijing. I haven't travelled yet, but it gave a good quick rundown of things to see. I was expecting a little more in the way of sightseeing (vs dining which may be out of date at this point).
I liked the breakdown of the different activities and the small size. The maps at the back are a great addition. I also like the style where the book is broken down by categories ie. nightlife, hotels, best bets. I find this makes it much easier to find what you are looking for.
