The Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known by the pen name Lewis Carroll, was an English author, mathematician, logician, Anglican clergyman and photographer.
His most famous writings are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass as well as the poems "The Hunting of the Snark" and "Jabberwocky", all considered to be within the genre of literary nonsense.
Oxford scholar, Church of England Deacon, University Lecturer in Mathematics and Logic, academic author of learned theses, gifted pioneer of portrait photography, colourful writer of imaginative genius and yet a shy and pedantic man, Lewis Carroll stands pre-eminent in the pantheon of inventive literary geniuses.
A fun little book that has the songs from both books it shows the chords and lyrics. There are lots of fun illustrations. I read this online with Hoopla App. I liked it but it makes me want to reread the entire books of Alice in Wonderland/ Through the Looking Glass more than to re-read this song book. I recommend reading once if you are an Alice fan.
Published in 1921. It contains songs arranged from the various poems, with additional materials, from both Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
From Alice in Wonderland the songs are: How doth the little Crocodile; You are Old, Father William;
Twinkle, twinkle, little Bat!; Pig and Pepper; The Lobster Quadrille; 'Tis the Voice of the Lobster; Beautiful Soup; The Queen of Hearts and Who Stole the Tarts?
From Through The Looking Glass the songs are: Jabberwocky; Tweedledum and Tweedledee; The Walrus and the Carpenter; Humpty, Dumpty; The Message to the Fish; The Lion and the Unicorn; The Aged, Aged Man; Queen Alice; The Fish Riddle and Hush-a-by, Lady.
It's basically the type of thing completists look for.
I picked this up in a charity shop and it was well worth the £1.49! It's lovely to have all of the songs/poems from Alice in one place. My daughter loves to read them to me and I to her. The Walrus and the Carpenter is my favourite, but it makes me feel tearful. My daughter loves Jabberwocky and wishes they would learn poems like this at school.
Even if you sing like a frog, have a tin ear, and can't read music - you want this book for Folkard's outstanding illustrations! One of the top illustrators who does Lewis Carroll justice! The best illos are inside!

Alice again visits wonderland joining a game of Chess. The book is a bit confusing if you are not acquainted with the game itself. It is full of fun, poetry, wit, and social humor. I cannot say I understood it all. It was a fun read. If I ever get a chance I may have to read the spark notes on it.
